Hi @Wikishovel, quite a while here, just saw your edit on my newly created page. Nice one. Review when you can, cheers! B.Korlah (talk) 12:29, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm fixing a problem with copyright on She Must Be Obeyed: please re-read the Wikipedia policies on copyright. When you add copyrighted work to articles, it creates extra work for the administrators and potential legal problems for Wikipedia, and you've been warned about this a few times at your talk page. Wikishovel (talk) 12:37, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Wikishovel, I can see what you’re calling the copyright issues, which is the summary of the movie, however, summary of the movie is the same across board and I still put it up in my own word, but I’ve since removed it as advised by you, so that’s why I removed the tag, since that particular heading has been removed in completion B.Korlah (talk) 12:41, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the copyright from the visible article, but for legal reasons must also be hidden from the edit history of the article. Please wait until an administrator fixes this problem before removing the copyvio template again. Wikishovel (talk) 12:44, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you give me a tip?

Hi @Wikishovel. I did a once through on Systematic Software Engineering to remove promotional language. Honestly, if you look at the cited material, it's often the same language. Could you point to one or two phrases you've found problematic? I'll remove them and any other phrases like them. Thank you for your time on this. MatthewDalhousie (talk) 08:45, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and thanks for your efforts on making the tone more neutral. I think you've hit the nail on the head: the problem might lie in writing too closely to the tone of the cited sources. Some examples:
  • "With that flexibility, Systematic positioned itself a supplier of software systems for defence, but also the healthcare sector on a global scale."
  • "While the company has been moving towards a broader product offering, its military customer base has strengthened."
  • "It leverages artificial intelligence to manage and exploit big data, and provide commanders with critical insights into the battlespace."
The product descriptions more generally read like a brochure describing the products' benefits, and should be much shorter.
I hope that's useful. Thanks, Wikishovel (talk) 08:51, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Very clear advice. Shall implement. Thank you @Wikishovel. MatthewDalhousie (talk) 21:45, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, following this super-clear feedback from you, @Wikishovel, here are the seven changes I have worked on.
1. Settled on more formal language throughout, so "With that flexibility, Systematic positioned itself.." is now "As such, Systematic became..."
2. Removed language that sounds congratulatory, such as the phrase you pointed out "has strengthened", but also "extensive", in other places "many" has become "several"
3. I think the word "new" feels like PR, I have tried to remove that where it makes sense to do so. As does the word "announced" which has been eliminated.
4. Likewise, anything that sounds like it may have originally been part of a business plan has gone, so I've removed "global scale."
5. When it came to the product descriptions, I actually tracked down the brochureware so it DOESN'T have the same language. (Originally I avoided doing that because I didn't want that language in my head.) I think the key here is purging adjectives and adverbs like "full", "comprehensive," "high-performance", "automatically" and "integrated." Overall, I just shortened these descriptors too.
6. Noticed a few claims that needed their own citations, so added them.
7. I did add an image of a Bushmaster. MatthewDalhousie (talk) 23:16, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Good evening @Wikishovel - have completed that set of changes, wanted to see if you had any further comments on Systematic Software Engineering MatthewDalhousie (talk) 09:59, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, it's better than it was, but the tone is still quite promotional, and it's mostly referenced by press releases, sponsored content, and interviews. Are you connected with the company, on a professional or personal basis? Wikishovel (talk) 10:40, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh man. I feel like giving up on this. Someone else should have a try at it. I ignored their press releases by the way. It's all from industry journals, mostly from here in Australia.
And no, I don't/arent.
I thought all the warm language was purged. Seriously - can you point me to a phrase that voters you? MatthewDalhousie (talk) 12:45, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what to tell you here, if you can't see the promotional tone. It's not just the products, it's the way the company is pitched rather than described. The photo of a tank commander in action, captioned "The Headquarters system can be used to connect directly with commanders in theatre" is one example of the article reading like a brochure. This photo also appears to be company marketing. You uploaded it to Flickr, and then uploaded it to Wikimedia Commons. But where did it come from before Flickr? The metadata of this one and some others is a bit confusing. Wikishovel (talk) 14:23, 13 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Actually a bit embarrassed here. You were absolutely right about the PR material. I took a few news sources on face value, but, a good handful were simply recycled media releases. One of the tells, to which I was oblivious, but should have noticed, was when there was no journalist putting their name to the piece. So to my changes:
1. I have removed anything from army-technology.com navalteam.dk battleupdates.com mynewsdesk.com and I think from European Defence Review for good measure.
2. In the process, I found some sources which are reliable, and well regarded, such as Jane's Defence Weekly and the other publications from that masthead.
3. With regards to the description of IRIS, again, you were right, that did come from a media-release-that-looked-like-a-journal article where it made a claim but didn't actually have a person it reported who was making the claim, so I did my research, found a journal article from an academic conference and used and cited that statement (a certain J Molitoris).
4. I think I've successfully removed all the places where there was a primary source used for the citation (there was a book called "It's all about making a difference" which had lots of interesting dates and whatnot, but I could see it was problematic, so have just removed it entirely, and the claims that depended on it. There is only one primary source quote left I think, and it's right at the end, which is about the current and future ownership of the company. If you consider that still to be a bit of an issue, let me know and I'll remove that too.
5. I removed the image of the founder for two reasons, first because, while not flattering, it may be it had a promotional effect, in which case better for it to be gone. More appropriate if the article was about that person, rather than about a corporation. Second because you seemed unsure about provenance. The truth is the Australian Defence Magazine featured the photos of the person, and, via email, the photographer (someone called Pernille) gave permission for a number of shots to be released under creative commons and so they were uploaded to Flickr as such. If it respected everyone's privacy I guess I could forward that permission on to you I suppose. Anyway, none of that may be necessary as I've removed the image.
6. I shortened the outline of all the products. Seems fitting for an article about a corporation to cover its products, but I think you're right, there was some sell-y language. Anything expansive has been removed. Still I found that, to describe what the product is for, a given sentence will need to have verb somewhere. Generally I've gone with "x provides y" as the basic structure, I think that's the detached kind of tone that an encyclopedia requires.
My humble (and humiliated) thanks to you @Wikishovel. The article did have a lot of those Media Releases and, I confess now, a lot of the language those releases contained. Having purged those, in favour of the more respected (and better written) Defence journals seems have improved things, on my reading anyway.
Do let me know if you see further opportunities to improve this article.
Kind regards, MatthewDalhousie (talk) 02:21, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's definitely getting better, thanks. Wikishovel (talk) 06:13, 16 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Wikishovel. I believe you have spurred me on to greater things, in this regard.
I'm keen to see the article reach a decent level of quality, so please let me know if you spot something that could be better.
Yours gratefully MatthewDalhousie (talk) 02:28, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Cloud9 Entertainment

Hi, I have made substantial edits, which got published whole I was editing the final version, due to glitch. The concerns raise I completely is genuine and proper deletion of such statements made already. Requesting you to relook and withdraw tags BrightsForever (talk) 17:13, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it's still quite promotional:
  • "to gain international opportunities",
  • "Bright saw immense potential in Thai entertainment industry, hence he announced the plans to create a new entity to manage, nurture, protect its talent along with promotion of their events, and to improve Thai markets visibility around the globe",
  • "The agency is partnering with Universal Music Thailand to help Thai talents achieve opportunities on an international forum".
etc. Wikishovel (talk) 17:21, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Its vision of the founder to provide Thai artist opportunities were their work is visible in international forum.
With this aim, he is in partnership with Universal Music Thailand, which is established music group, to support promote Thai artist work to larger audience. This is supported by interview published on the citations.
Please, guide me to tone it done further in acceptable manner, as vision and effort of the agency so far needs a mention.
No deliberate intention is made. It need cleansing which for sure based on your advice I will do. However please consider withdrawal of deletion BrightsForever (talk) 18:47, 10 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Oh Geeez (indie band)

Hello sir. Can I ask you a question? Why do you have to remove an indie band from Milwaukee even though this is the only source we've got and yet you remove it because it's "outsourced." NahuelFanboy2004 (talk) 11:10, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I don't understand what you mean by "outsourced". I nominated the article for deletion because I don't believe the band meets the notability guidelines for a separate article, as outlined at WP:BAND. Please don't take it personally: it's simply about sticking to agreed policies arrived at by a consensus of Wikipedia editors. Wikishovel (talk) 11:13, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And what do you mean by that?

I need your help in reviewing a page of the Permanent Secretary Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs

I have published the page but it is yet to be reviewed. The name is Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa. Alkherly1993 (talk) 09:08, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I just did as you asked. I need your help in reviewing it. Can you now help me review the page . I truly appreciate your prompt response and guidance. Thank you very much. Alkherly1993 (talk) 09:41, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I have published a page that has been reviewed and published but I want to hide it for while.

I have published a page that has been reviewed and published but I want to hide it for while. How do i do that? And when I want it back, how is that done? For example can I take it to draft? When I want to remove it from draft, how do I do it? Alkherly1993 (talk) 10:26, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Which page? Wikishovel (talk) 10:28, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I want to know how I can send a reviewed page to draft. And thereafter when I want to publish it again, how do I do that? Can you help please? Alkherly1993 (talk) 11:50, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes you said that already. Which page? Wikishovel (talk) 11:51, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sule Abdulaziz but do not do it, I just want to be guided. Alkherly1993 (talk) 11:55, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you want to move that page to draft? What's wrong with it? Wikishovel (talk) 11:56, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I want to work towards advancing the page more. But I think you can leave it. I can make the adjustment with its presence.
however, I am still having issues with publishing Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa despite changing the work to mine.
also another page created by me more than three years ago Ahmed Rufai Abubakar needs additional citation even though it has been reviewed.
Can you help me with the two pages? Alkherly1993 (talk) 12:00, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ahmed Rufai Abubakar is sourced well enough for a short article, so I've removed the template saying that it needs more. Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa needs the copyrighted text to be rewritten, as I mentioned. Go for it. Wikishovel (talk) 12:09, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think you have misunderstood my point. Some messages must appear the same. For example, the schools and Universities he has attended, where he hails from, his current office must be the same. Same applies to his career experience. I can't change them. But in my reference, I have attached from where it was alleged that I copied from. Can you review it one more time? Adamu Ibrahim Lamuwa Alkherly1993 (talk) 12:21, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I see what you mean. Tag removed. Wikishovel (talk) 12:28, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much. Can you now help me review the page please so that it can be visible ince searched just as you did to Sule Abdulaziz Alkherly1993 (talk) 12:45, 18 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Declined G5's

Hi there, FYI I have deleted the drafts you tagged as created by the banned Applus2021, but have left the three mainspace articles - Prism Video Converter (software), Baldev Singh Khiala and Dev Raj Singh Talwandi. According to Cabayi here, ArbCom have received an appeal. Pending the outcome of the appeal, we can delete for G5 after that is resolved. (Give it a couple of weeks from now and if no news, ping me and I will delete.) Cheers, Daniel (talk) 04:46, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for pointing that out, and yes I'll ping you if the appeal is rejected, rather than renominate G5. Wikishovel (talk) 04:48, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
ArbCom declined the appeal a couple of days ago. Looking at the SPI, it's waiting for ScholarlyScribe (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki), AustinTravis27 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki), and AustinTravis27 (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log · CA · CheckUser(log· investigate · cuwiki) to be split out into a separate case with ScholarlyScribe as the master. This will put the G5 date for their creations at 22:33, 17 October 2023 when all three accounts were blocked. As all three accounts were blocked at the same time there won't be any G5-able material. Cabayi (talk) 09:05, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, looking back at the SPI again, I see what you're saying. Thanks for the explanation. Wikishovel (talk) 09:10, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Liz: last I saw it, that was an article created by User:Anima303. Then User:Dan arndt moved that to Draft:Meragram. What was it implausibly pointing at by the time you ran across it? Improving article

Hello @Wikishovel . You recently tagged "orphan" to this article Social media use in health awareness. Since I am still a learner , please let me know how I can improve this article. EEverest 8848 (talk) 12:29, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and welcome. An orphan article is an article that no other Wikipedia article links to. I couldn't think of an article where a link to that article you started would fit, so I tagged that article as orphan. But now that you've mentioned it, I've just had another look, and added a link in Social media#Governments, as that's one use the article mentions. I'll remove the orphan tag now. Wikishovel (talk) 12:37, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sibelius

Hi, Wikishovel (great name, btw) ... I noticed the unnecessary disambiguation moves you made of a few of the Sibelius compositions for which I created articles. Thanks (and apologies on not being totally familiar with article naming best practices)! I was wondering if such a move should/could also be made for: Six Humoresques (Sibelius), Two Serenades (Sibelius) (there's kind of a similar article by Brahms), and Pan and Echo (Sibelius). Also, I have decided to take Academic cantatas and split it into two separate articles, such that the old article would be empty (deleted? redirected?). Could you perhaps let me know what is the appropriate way to do this task? Thanks (and nice to meet you)! ~ Silence of Järvenpää 15:08, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, and no apologies needed. Thank you for starting those excellent Sibelius articles, and your work on templates, etc.
Happy to help with the page moves:
  • There doesn't seem to be a Six Humoresques by any other notable composer.
  • Pan and Echo could refer to the two mythological figures, but on balance I'd say that Sibelius' composition is reasonably the best use for that title, and we can link to Pan (god) and Echo (mythology) from there, to avoid any confusion.
  • Two Serenades, with a capital "S", can have a hatnote distinguishing Brahms' two serenades.
On the subject of splitting Academic cantatas, have you read WP:PROSPLIT? Proposing the split in a discussion might be the best course. I love music, but am probably too ignorant of musicology to contribute to the discussion, apart from on a practical level of actually moving the content around.
I'll get onto the simpler page move tasks now. Wikishovel (talk) 15:32, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Page moves done, with template updates, and links and hatnote as mentioned above. Kiitos! Wikishovel (talk) 16:10, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Puya

Meitei literature and Puya (Meitei Manuscript) can these two be two different main article or not? Presently there is only a sub section of puya. Would you kindly help? I wanted to expand the sub section to a main using WP:RS 🐲 ꯂꯨꯋꯥꯪ ꯋꯥ ꯍꯥꯏꯐꯝ (talk) 14:03, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, the WP:Consensus at Talk:Puya (Meitei texts) was to merge, so please propose your split there, thanks. If a new consensus can be found to split the article, then yes I'd be happy to help.
In the meantime, please feel free to expand the target, Meitei literature#Puyas, which is quite short at the moment. Wikishovel (talk) 14:17, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks I will request for a split and I have added the contents as you suggested to the target Meitei literature#Puyas .🐲 ꯂꯨꯋꯥꯪ ꯋꯥ ꯍꯥꯏꯐꯝ (talk) 14:44, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

SPI

Hello, I have seen you active at SPI. This might be interesting for you. Cheers. Maliner (talk) 15:18, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, can't quite see a case strong enough for SPI yet, but if you open an SPI, I might be able to add to it. Wikishovel (talk) 15:21, 29 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

November Articles for creation backlog drive

Hello Wikishovel:

WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!

Can make a Disambiguation page?

I just seen the tagging alert,

and also just found out Tsugunai was occupied beforehand, when creating redirect for Chinese Mandarin version of a Japanese song (Both uses same tune)

Per (Special:Diff/606012821) tagged by Nguyễn Quốc Việt

Can I make a Disambiguation page for both 1985 song and 2001 video game page? Or leave it as it is becuase (WP:Systemic bias) audience are (largely) younger and (mostly IT-Savvy) and not (largely Eastern Asians) Gen-X and older? --- Cat12zu3 (talk) 07:02, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I would leave it, until there are more things to disambiguate: see WP:TWODABS. The odds of a third article called "Tsugunai" seem pretty slim, and there's no clear WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Wikishovel (talk) 07:48, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Okay thanks. Cat12zu3 (talk) 09:13, 1 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Wikishovel, thanks for adding additions to the Hyoscyamus aureus page. For something like the link to iNaturalist photos after the description ("see iNaturalist photos"), you turned it into a number reference to the bottom, which may well be default practice. I'm wondering if there's any suitable way it can still stay in as a direct link, since to understand the description most users do need to click to see photos (in contrast to more erudite links which only few will follow), and they're unlikely to follow a number reference (which they would probably suppose links to more text). I think it's best right there somehow just after at the end of the description, but another option might be to have an External Links section, since that would be also somewhat visible to users. Let me know your thoughts. Meteorquake (talk) 12:29, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The policies for external links are described at WP:External links. Your idea of an external links section on that page sounds like a good one. Please ping if I can be of help with that. Wikishovel (talk) 12:36, 3 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Don’t ever do that again! Molarinoye09 (talk) 08:48, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Molarinoye09: Hello. What should I never do again? Wikishovel (talk) 08:50, 4 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Richard Brilliant, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page University of Rome.

Hi. I blanked it because...

Hi I see you put back the text that I blanked on my article Jeff Browne. I thought it would be reasonable to blank it. It clearly does not mention Browne. Otherwise, thoughts?? Thanks, MrFlyingPies23 (talk) 09:39, 7 November 2023 (UTC).[reply]

Hi. It's fine to remove content for a reason like that, but you didn't give an edit summary. Wikishovel (talk) 09:42, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh sorry dude. Rookie mistake. Bad move. My fault, MrFlyingPies23 (talk) 09:44, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So should I keep it? MrFlyingPies23 (talk) 09:45, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you still want to remove it, go ahead, but please just give an edit summary so your fellow editors understand why. Wikishovel (talk) 09:46, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
