Question from LeónGonsalvesofGoa (03:36, 2 November 2023)

Our previous discussion revolved around incorporating a summary of notable individuals from Goa into the Goa article. Upon reviewing the list article (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_from_Goa), I was taken aback by the numerous entries lacking references, and subsequently, I removed them all. I proceeded to condense the remaining categories within the Goa article. What is your opinion on this course of action? --LeónGonsalvesofGoa (talk) 03:36, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind reversing your decision to allow for an admin closure? Based on the October 20, 2023 comments from the relister, it is clear that many of the keep votes have not supplied policy based reasoning to keep. Note that some of these accounts popped up just to vote in the discussion. Since that time, there were two additional keep votes, one who admits they are not well versed in WP:ORGCRIT and another who cited a reference that provides a mention of the topic which is not WP:CORPDEPTH. CNMall41 (talk) 06:57, 5 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I think it‘s quite a clear consensus. Note that when I closed the discussion, the only !vote to delete had been withdrawn; there was no support at all for deleting, and pretty broad support for keeping the article. Some of the !votes were unfortunately just votes, which don‘t carry a lot of weight. But quite a few editors expressed well-reasoned arguments, and I think there‘s more than enough substance in that discussion to read a consensus to keep. I‘d usually be happy to revert a non-admin close, and I understand that non-admins shouldn’t close contentious discussions. However, this is a really clear case, at least to my eyes. It’d be a real stretch to call it particularly contentious. If you‘re just gonna take it to DRV, I‘d rather revert and let an admin take a look (editor resources are precious etc.), so let me know if that‘s your intention. Still, I really don‘t see how this discussion could be read any other way. Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 20:20, 6 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. My request is not about consensus, but the use of non-admin closure. Based on the October 20, 2023 comment from a relisting admin (and subsequent votes which I detailed in my original comment above), this could fall under WP:BADNAC#2 ("outcome is a close call") which is why I am asking for the reversal to allow admin closure. While my intention for DRV should not impact your decision, I will say that I cannot make that determination prior to a close. I do not always agree with admin closures, but never go to DRV simply because I don't like it. Me taking an admin close to DRV would be based on the reasoning for their close and any discussion I have with the admin to understand their reasoning. Hopefully that brings some clarification. Cheers!--CNMall41 (talk) 22:00, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifyingy! I really struggle to see how this is a „close call“ at all. Could you elaborate on that? What possible outcome is there for this discussion in which all !votes are to Keep, other than closing it as a Keep? Would you close it as no consensus? I‘ve reverted my close because it seems that there is some fundamental disconnect between how I read the discussion and how you seem to interpret it; still, I would really like to hear what your thought process is to evaluate that discussion as a „close call.“ Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 22:39, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate the revert. Poor wording choice on my end. I would say that it is not an uncontroversial close. My understanding is that non-admin closures should be for articles that are clearly !keep. This one was not as there was back and forth, source analysis, and an admin commenting about wanting more thank simple "keep" votes without supporting the contention. So again, not arguing what the consensus would/could've been. My request is more about the use of non-admin closure. Thanks again. --CNMall41 (talk) 05:38, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Tryingtoimprove667 (17:02, 7 November 2023)

Hello!!!

I have a couple of simple additions to make regarding some not so important wiki articles, hope you don't mind my making suggestions, it has been a while, so I hope I do ok.

Damon --Tryingtoimprove667 (talk) 17:02, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Feel free to make changes to articles; if you see something wrong, be bold and fix it :) There is in general no need to ask for permission to do that, although some articles may be protected, which means only experienced editors are able to edit them. If you run into any specific issues, I‘d be happy to help you. Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 22:44, 7 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Closure of Felyne AfD

Hi, I'd like to request that you reopen the AfD about the Felyne article. In searching for more sources, I recently found this new source from USGamer that is pretty large WP:SIGCOV on the topic and wasn't previously mentioned. I think you can also agree it is really significant and merits that the AfD go on at least somewhat longer for people to be notified of this. This is also another decent source on the localization of felyne dialect. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 00:41, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! If you’ve found new sources that change the situation, I would suggest you open a discussion on the redirect talk page; AfDs are not usually re-opened if the sourcing situation changes after they have been closed. You might want to ping the participants of that AfD to see if consensus changes given the additional sources. Make sure to ping everyone who participated, because making a selection might look like WP:CANVASS. Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 07:39, 8 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Anirudhkataria95 (07:32, 16 November 2023)

HI How can I create a page? Its for a news company , they publish news online. --Anirudhkataria95 (talk) 07:32, 16 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Anirudhkataria95, welcome to Wikipedia!
Creating an article from scratch is very difficult, and it may be a frustrating experience because you need to be familiar with a lot of different policies & guidelines on how to write appropriate content for Wikipedia. It‘s not usually recommended for new editors, but it‘s entirely allowed. Your first article provides guidance for new users on writing an article, including some of the more technical aspects. I suggest you read through that, as well as some of the policies it links to. I‘d be happy to help you with any questions.
There is a basic requirement for standalone article topics called notability. In most cases, that means that independent and reliable sources need to have published significant content on the subject.
Something else to be aware of is that it's generally not a good idea to create articles about yourself, your family or friends, or a company or organization that you work for or with. That's mainly because it's extremely difficult to write from a neutral point of view in such cases. You can read more about conflicts of interest here.
I know it can be discouraging to have all these guidelines thrown at you, but please don‘t let it dissuade you from editing here on Wikipedia. Meanwhile, it may be good to go around and improve existing articles to learn the ropes. If you see something wrong, don‘t worry too much about knowing all the guidelines; be bold and fix it! Happy editing! :) 09:55, 16 November 2023 (UTC)

quick question how do you change an article title? --Gwynmaclir (talk) 23:53, 19 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Gwynmaclir, welcome to Wikipedia! Changing an article's title is called moving it (for technical reasons). You can read more about how that works at WP:MOVE. Hope that helps! Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 15:17, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Mr. Linguist, welcome to Wikipedia! You should be able to edit most articles freely. Remember that Wikipedia is not a webhost, so it's not the right place to publish, say, personal essays, poetry, and the like. Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 15:19, 23 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from India2024 (04:43, 25 November 2023)

Hello there, you have been assigned as my mentor. I would seek your help and interest in getting an article page protected for preventing vandalism. Please guide me accordingly. The page in question is 'Kopineshwar Mandir, Thane' which I have edited and improved. Because this is a religious place, I want to work forward to give it increased protection. --India2024 (talk) 04:43, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @India2024! Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your work on that article. Pages are protected in accordance with the protection policy. Wikipedia being an open encyclopedia (in so far as anyone can edit it) is a really important principle, and pages are almost never protected preemptively; see WP:PREEMPTIVE about that. In this case, there doesn't seem to be a need for protection, as the article has not suffered sustained attacks by vandals or similar issues.
In general, you can request that an admin change a page's protection level at WP:RFPP. However, as long as there is no demonstrated need for protection, usually in the form of sustained vandalism, the page probably will not be protected.
I hope this helps :) Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Happy editing! Actualcpscm scrutinize, talk 13:10, 25 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Mega Wiki Editor on Cell to Singularity (00:13, 29 November 2023)

Hola, quería preguntar, ¿cómo se agregan imágenes y/o fotos a los sitios de Wikipedia?

Gracias. --Mega Wiki Editor (talk) 00:13, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mega Wiki Editor, I don't speak Spanish myself, but I'll do my best with DeepL :)
Images used on Wikipedia need to meet certain copyright requirements and are usually hosted through Wikimedia Commons. You can read more about adding existing images to articles at WP:COMMONS. If you'd like to upload your own images, WP:UPI explains how to do that.
Let me know if you have any specific questions, and I'd be happy to help.
