[edit]I have my doubts that the Matthew Brady photo in this article is actually Thomas Ruffin. It is more likely Thomas Hart Ruffin and ought to be in his article. But as I don't have any proof, I am hesitant to move it myself. If all the photo says is "Hon. Thos. Ruffin of N.C." that isn't much to go on. Both members of congress and judges use "Hon." in front of their names. Awbeal 19:14, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
This does indeed seem to be a photograph of Thomas Hart Ruffin, a man born in Louisburg, N.C., who served in the House of Representatives from 1853 to 1861. The Library of Congress site says the photo was taken between 1855 and 1865, which would make it about right to be him. When you compare it to a photo of a portrait of Judge Thomas Ruffin at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, you can see that they aren't the same person.--Sallygreene 18:40, 28 July 2007 (UTC)
