Has Doug Ford died?
[edit]An anonymous poster has just made this claim, without providing a source. I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the report, but I'd prefer to have confirmation before reposting the information. CJCurrie 15:44, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes he has passed away and the Toronto Star has a piece on it at http://www.thestar.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=thestar/Layout/Article_PrintFriendly&c=Article&cid=1159221039168&call_pageid=968332188492
Lake Ontario swim attempt
[edit]It has been claimed by some that as a youth Ford was a championship swimmer, and in 1954, at the age of 16, attempted to cross Lake Ontario in the same CNE Marathon swim which was completed by Marilyn Bell. However, Ford was born in the winter of 1933, making him 21 years old, not 16 years old, in the summer of 1954, when Marilyn Bell made her record-setting swim, and there is no record of Ford participating in that swim, regardless of his true age at the time. As recently as January 2014, an interview of Marilyn Di Lascio (nee Bell) in a local newspaper indicated (as have many other accounts) that the swim was attempted (successfully in Marilyn Bell's case) by three women.
- I queried the Toronto Star public archives (as have others) and could find no mention of Doug Ford attempting a Lake Ontario crossing. Bell in an interview does not mention Ford either. Until this matter is resolved, let's keep this off the main article page. EncyclopediaUpdaticus (talk) 19:39, 27 May 2014 (UTC)
