[edit]

I am the person who initially created the Mari Holden article here on Wikipedia. Formerly, in the late 1990s, I was the webmaster of Mari's official web site. I also maintained for a number of years (until mid-2003) the "Palmares of Elite Women Cycle Racers" web site, which reported and archived race results data from around the world. The Palmares data on the articles related to women cycle racers which have so far been posted to Wikipedia is based on the Palmares web site material and has been updated from official UCI and race web site sources to reflect more recent information, a process which is ongoing. More pages on women cycle racers, and many photos, all at high resolution and released under CC BY-SA 2.0 will be posted to the Commons.

The data related to Mari Holden's race results has been proofread to ensure that no errors slipped in during the recent vandalism. The data prior to about 1998 was taken from Mari's personal race resume as reported on her official web site in those yearrs. The same is true of much of the material in the Biography section. Results subsequent to about 1998 are from UCI and official race records, almost always the official race results as reported by the offical race web site.

There is also some material on the USA Cycling web site related to Mari Holden (under the athlete bios section). Please note that the birthdate as given there (April 3, 1971) is incorrect. The correct birthdate is March 30, 1971, as shown in the Wikipedia article and on her UCI racing license.

Thank you very much for protecting this page!!

Fifth or Sixth?

[edit]

Mari Holden's official web site at mariholden.com gives her finish in the 1993 US Natiional TT Championships as 6th place, and not 5th as asserted by the anonymous editor. Even though it may be a small matter, until some evidence (source) is cited for the change, it should be restored to the original 6th place.

1996 U.S. Olympic Trials

[edit]

In 1996, the U.S. Olympic Trials for women consisted of a linked set of 5 races - 2 time trials, and 3 road races. Overall standings in the Trials was determined by a point system based on performance in all of the events. Holden did not finish in 1st overall. In fact, she did not finish high enough to qualify for the U.S. Olympic team that year. However, she did win both of the Time Trials.
