Indian Ahl-i Hadith ‘alim

Safi ur-Rahman Mubarakpuri, a leading Indian Ahl-i Hadith ‘alim, quoted at length from Madani’s al-Shahab al-Shaqib, pointing out that Madani had fiercely condemned Mu-hammad bin ‘Abdul Wahhab, reserving the choicest epithets for him. He claimed that Madani had ‘left no stone unturned ‘ to vilify the Saudi rulers. He added that even at the present time the Deobandis were secretly carrying on in that tradition, while cunningly seeking to brand the Saudi government’s ‘true well-wishers’ (by which he meant the Ahl-i Hadith) as its enemies. According to his student, "Today after Salaatul-Asr I received a phone call from Jamia Salafia -Banaras, India, informing me that the Shaykh, al-‘Allaamah Safiur-Rahmaan Mubarakpuri passed away today in Mubarakpur, India, after Salaatul-Jumu’ah -Indian time roughly 2.00-2.30 pm.
