Found the foll obit for his wife at [1], unsure how to capture as ref mat'l: Nixon, Sally Wood d. 15 Jun 1937 R70/150The New York Times, June 16, 1937, p. 24 Mrs. Lewis Nixon Wife of Former Shipbuilder Who Designed Three Battleships Mrs. Sally Lewis Wood Nixon, wife of Lewis Nixon, shipbuilder, now president of the Nixon NitrationWorks, died at 10 o'clock last night at her residence, 16 East Seventy-ninth Street, after an illness of ten months. Her husband, their son, Stanhope Wood Nixon, and the latter's family, were with her. Mrs. Nixon, originally a resident of Washington, was a descendant of General Andrew Lewis of Colonial Virginia. Her marriage took place in 1891, the year in which her husband resigned from the navy afterdesigning the battleships Oregon, Indiana and Massachusetts, to become superintending constructor of the Cramp Shipyard, Philadelphia. Mrs. Nixon belonged to the Colonial Dames of America and the Daughters of the American Revolution

Also found detailled ship list for Lewis Nixon's Crescent Shipyard which is free to use if attributed per the home page [2] This probably belongs in the Crescent shipyard article. LeadSongDog 05:26, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lewis Nixon I?

[edit]

@Gaarmyvet: I can't find a single source that says this was his name. Can you point me to one? Even if it is, WP:COMMONNAME says we should use the most commonly used name, and I don't see any evidence at all that this is the case. Kendall-K1 (talk) 01:51, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't either. Adding "I" to a name generally doesn't happen until there is a "II" or a "III", so it's not the person's name (geneally speaking) during their lifetime. Historians may adapt it in retrospect for the purposes of clarity, but that doesn't make it the person's name, per se. I've moved the article back to Lewis Nixon (naval architect), please do not move it again without a consensus to do so at this page. Beyond My Ken (talk) 02:14, 9 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
