Olaf Kyrres

Self-mutilation legend

[edit]

I remember reading a story in Ripley's Believe it or Not many years ago that King Olaf III was chopping wood one day when a passerby said, "Pardon me, sire, but do you know that tomorrow will be Monday?" Horrified at his own Sabbath-breaking, the king then burned off the offending hand. I am almost certain that this is apocryphal, but does anyone know whether this is the Olaf of whom the story is told (assuming that is is!)? Kostaki mou (talk) 19:59, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
