if one is born with a siddhi of clairvoyance, how does one bring it under control?

Is siddhi a cognate of the Irish sidhe?Celsiana 04:47, 12 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's a Sanskrit word. And as far as I know, there's no real connection between Sanskrit and Gaelic.

(But I could be wrong! :)

I suggest reading the Yoga Sutras for better information on divine powers (like Siddhis)--Mdsats 08:46, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A Western Version

[edit]

I don't think that this section really fits with the rest of the article, which is about the Hindu idea of siddhis. Any other thoughts? Sethie 18:20, 13 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I posted this request almost a month ago and no feedback, so I am going to remove it. Sethie 03:01, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Missing Siddhis?

[edit]

The section "Eight Primary Siddhis" currently lists only five. 15:33, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

Copy edit

[edit]

I removed the copy edit tag. The grammar, spelling and tone seems all good. Cohesion not so much, but I think the confusing tag covers it. Tripnoted (talk) 06:02, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Madhavacharya

[edit]

The Madhavacharya who is the author of Sarva Darshana Samgraha is not the founder of Dvaitam. This Madhavacharya is actually another name of Vidyaranya, the Guru of Vijayanagara's founders and a Shankaracharya of Sringeri KarthikSsm (talk) 15:59, 17 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Renouncing the Siddhis

[edit]

Decades ago I read a number of books that talked about the Siddhis, and renouncing them was often an important step. They were often referred to as "distractions" or "obstacles" on the path to enlightenment. I think this is a supremely relevant aspect and I'd like to include it, but I haven't found sources. Anyone? Incorrect list of siddhis

[edit]

In the section Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, the list of siddhis given aren't siddhis at all. In fact they're are a list of the Niyamas, the second "limb" of Ashtanga Yoga. The niyamas are a list of observances to be performed by the practitioner of Yoga, and have nothing to do with Siddhis. Since the classical ashta-siddhis are given right below, I'll remove this list altogether. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Magnetar47 (talkcontribs) 10:46, 5 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
