The details of Janet's parents are taken from the Introduction to the first edition of the Journal and the family tree included in the third edition. However the Red Book of Scotland [1]does not list Robert, Janet or Alexander as the children of Gideon and Anne Rutherford.. Further work is needed to locate the birth records of Robert, Janet and Alexander and to confirm the parentage.
