Development
In June 2024, DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation were revealed to be developing an animated television series centered on the DC Comics character Jaime Reyes / Blue Beetle, with Miguel Puga serving as showrunner and director alongside Cristian Martinez as writer. Development had begun earlier that year, with Ángel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, the director and writer of the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) film Blue Beetle (2023) set to executive produce the series with the film's producer John Ricard. DC Studios' Galen Vaisman was set to oversee the animated series for the studio. Many of the main cast members from the film had been approached to reprise their roles in the series when it was revealed, although contracts were still being negotiated. The series was set to build off of the film, although it was intended to tell a different story. There was potential for Blue Beetle actor Xolo Maridueña to reprise his role from the DCEU in a feature film depending on the success of the series.[1]
