Sonakshi Kar (born 23 June 2003) is a skilled and trained Indian classical singer. She sings songs in the Bengali and Hindi languages. She is best known for participating in several singing reality shows such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs 2017 and Indian Idol season 13 (2022-2023).[1]
She is a talented singer who can adjust her tone while singing smoothly. Sonakshi often checks her pitch and can keep her pitch in balance with the music. Even though Sonakshi is young, she has great musical awareness,[2] because of her constant training and dedication to the work she loves.
Sonakshi's outstanding musical skills are that she has perfect pitch and can sing or identify musical notes without listening first for reference.[3][4] She can also memorize and sing the sargam notes of various songs, she is compared to a"Tanpura".[5]
Personal life
Sonakshi was born and brought up in Kolkata, India into a Bengali Hindu family. She attended Maharishi Vidya Mandir School in Kolkata for her education. In 2022, she graduated from the 12th board test. She is very focused and working hard both in singing and studying. Has learned Bharatanatyam but quit dancing to concentrate on singing (since there was a lack of time). Sonakshi has only one younger sister, who also learning to sing like her.[6]
Sonakshi had a lifelong passion for music. She is a very calm girl and sings with all her heart, completely immersed in the song. She Learnt music at home when she was 3 years old—then studied Hindustani classical music at Lalit Kala (a music academy in Kolkata) under Guru Jayanta Sarkar from the age of 4. She also took semi-classical music training from Deep Chakraborty.[7]
She not only sings, but she also likes to dance, likes painting, playing badminton, and swimming. She loves traveling, and she wants to see the sights there with her own eyes. She likes to eat biryani and eats anything made by her mother with gusto, especially fried rice. One thing she doesn't like to eat is ice cream. She eats only wafers and chocolates.[8]
Career
Sonakshi started her serious musical journey in 2011, she participated in Zee Bangla Sa Re Ga Ma Pa when she was 7 years old. There she secured the position of top 11. After that in the year 2013, she participated in Indian Idol Junior Season 1 when she was 9 years old. In that competition, she ranked top 6th. After that in the year 2017, she participated in Zee TV Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Li'l Champs 2017 (Mumbai) when she was 13 years old. There she secured the position of 1st Runner-Up.[9] Latest, in 2022-2023 she was on Indian Idol Season 13 and finished in 6th place (Finalist) in the season.[10]
Her musical idols and inspirations are Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle, and Shreya Ghoshal is also her favorite singer.
Sonakshi aspires to be a playback singer in Bengali and Hindi.[2]She likes to perform retro songs and old melodies. Sonakshi has a lot of experience performing live.[11]Her voice is smooth and captivating, and she knows how to captivate an audience. She’s also incredibly versatile – she can sing both traditional Indian songs as well as modern pop tracks.[12]
After Indian Idol 13 ended, Sonakshi had the opportunity to sing for Himesh Reshammiya in the album “Himesh Ke Dil Se ” titled “Tera Chale Jaana” which was released on YouTube channel on November 24, 2023.[13][14]
