Doğum tarihi bilinmiyor. Ölümü 1582 İzvornik Yugoslavya. Arnavutluk’un ünlü Dukakin(Dukagjin) ailesinden olduğu için "Dukakinzade" diye de anılır. 16. yüzyılda mesnevi alanında tanınmış şairlerden biridir. Acemi ocağında yetişti, Yeniçeri oldu. Ocak katibi Şihabeddin Bey’in yanına çırak olarak girdi. Aslen asker olan Yahya kendini sanat yanıyla da yetiştirmiş alim bir şairdir. Rüstem Paşa'nın sadrazamlığı sırasında yeniçerilik yapmış, Paşa'nın teveccühünü kazanmıştır. Vakıflarda görev aldı. Yavuz Sultan Selim’in Mısır ve Çaldıran seferlerine katıldı.

Dukakinzade Ahmed Pasha → Dukaginzade Ahmed Pasha – This particular variant is more frequently used in bibliography for both this figure and his descendants.
