From the Eurosport commentary of the British 125cc race, it sounded like a British rider won a British round of the championship in the 80s (didn't say which class). I don't think it's correct to say that it's over 30 years since a Brit won at this round, even ignoring sidecars - the linked article doesn't seem to say that.--MartinUK (talk) 17:29, 22 June 2008 (UTC)RESOLVES

[edit]He does live in Quedgeley as far as I know but I doubt he was actually born in Quedgeley; which the article implies, more likely the hospital in Gloucester itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.33.24.117 (talk) 20:32, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- His website says he was born there. That's the best source we have at the moment. A third party source would be better, but i've not seen one that has that level of detail. --GedUK 20:37, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Removal of Spam EL
[edit]Link to "Official Merchandising" - This was removed by a few users and reverted back by multiple IPs - who on examination by Whois, appear to be the same person. Checking at Wikipedia:External links/Noticeboard - the helpers there said it was not normal to have two "official" links, and they also removed the link - reverted again by IP, and not discussed here as requested. Since it appears that the IP is hopping addresses, there is little point in blocking for WP:3RR, so I have applied a short semi protection. I also note that the official website has (as far as I can see) no link to the merchandising site, which I find bizarre if the mechanising site is his true official site. - Update - I've just run a link checker through www.scottredding45.com, and 24 minutes later, out of 7927 urls on the site - there is no link to the spam site. The site we have left as the official site is confirmed as being Scott's site by MCN Ronhjones (Talk) 22:19, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I had a moment of worry because it is easy for people to lose control of a website that uses their name, and while the site looked good, I wondered if we could confirm that it was "official". Johnuniq (talk) 23:09, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
Re: Scott Redding websites.
[edit]Scott Redding currently has two websites, one for news and one for mechandise scottredding45.com is news and scott-redding45.co.uk is merchandise. The merchandise site is owned and run by Fab-Racing who also own his copyrights or IP rights and are therefore the only site allowed to sell his merchandise. The news site is run independently at present. Although it is running the risk of breaching some copyright laws no legal action (under advise of our IP attorney) has as yet taken place. It is therefore advisable to list both sites on the external links page. Many thanks.86.153.13.80 (talk) 13:30, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- If you care to read the page history, you will see that one of the reverts by User:Johnuniq - one of our experienced helpers at the External Links Noticeboard - revered that edit with "articles do not feature merchandising links". Wikipedia is not to be used to advertise merchandising - that falls foul of WP:ELNO. Had there been just one "official" site with both Scott Reading's input and some merchandising then it might have stayed. WP:ELOFFICIAL says that an official site is controlled by the subject of the Wikipedia article - as far as we know only the "fan" site is controlled by Scott. You have now also come clean that you have a commercial involvement with the merchandising site, and that gives you a very serious conflict of interest, and such editors are not allowed to add external links to their own company to Wikipedia. Had you been a logged in editor then I would have blocked you, as it is, you seem to be able to change IP addresses, so that makes it harder for us to protect Wikipedia, resulting in the only course of action I can do, is to protect the page. Since the proper official site (non merchandising) is alive and well, we have no issue linking to it - should in the future that site be under legal dispute about copyright, then that link will have to be removed as well, as WP does not intentionally link to copyright violations WP:ELNEVER, however that will not give the green link to the other site as it's sole purpose is selling.
