article deletion

sigma kappa alpha

Dear Merope, I hope this is the talk page where I am allowed to make inquieries. I very recently posted an article giving a description of my fraternity. I believe you deleted it due to "notability". I am wondering what needs to be done in order to ensure that our page can remain. It is notable in our universities eyes, and the hundred of members who have circulated through it. originally founded by WWII veterans, and has provided countless hours of community service.I appreciate your response, and thanks for your time. Have a nice day. p.s. Zelda is sweet

Yeah, yeah...

I kinda didn't want to point it out after having just said the thing about the footnotes.

QuadSearch deletion

Mrs Merope

I'd like to know why you deleted my aricle. (QuadSearch) It was a presentation of a metasearch engine.

I think that a visiting user that wants to know about metasearch engines, metasearching and/or information retrieval would like to read it. It's another metasearch engine and I was about to add some scientific references tothe article.

Wikipedia has many similar articles e.g. for dogpile, metacrawler etc. Was my article something different?

Terry Borman deletion

stub.--80.109.98.103 17:35, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Merope,

You recently deleted the page on Terry Borman as I was creating it. I feel this was an error as he is a well known and well respected current violin maker.

He has published many articles of interest in the world of violins including articles in Strad Magazine, The Violin Society of America Journal, and the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America.

He is one of the most respected contemporary makers and his instruments are owned by numerous performers listed on Wikipedia including Kyung-Wha Chung, Jaime Laredo, Pamela Frank and Pinchas Zukerman.

He was one of only a handful of makers from around the world invited to the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis 2007 to show his instruments.

He is conducting cutting edge research into the acoustics of historical instruments with acousticians around the world.

Additionally, he is working with dendochronologists around the world to examine the wood densities of historical instruments.

All this research is being conducted in order to improve the construction of current instruments.

There are numerous other contemporary makers who have pages on wikipedia, many of whom do not have nearly the credentials of Mr. Borman. Why was he singled out for deletion?

Thank you --Aintmo 17:44, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Terry Borman deletion

I disagree and I think you deleted too quickly.

The journals in question do not keep past issues on their sites, so the original articles are all published on a page on Terry's website. Clicking on the links brings up the original articles from the magazines and journals in pdf format.

The internal links linked to 4 other Wikipedia pages of top international violinists who own and perform on his instruments.

It took me 45 minutes to create that page and all that work is now gone. I would ask that you read more carefully and check all the links before you delete so quickly.

As Tears Go By

Why does that link violate copyright? Stan weller 18:10, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the owner of that site has permission to use the lyrics. That's why there aren't any adverts on the lyric pages themselves. Stan weller 19:07, 20 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We weren't using the "Honky Tonk Women" link for the lyrics, but for the factoid at the top concerning Brian Jones' replacement on the recording. Can we keep that as a source? Stan weller 00:47, 21 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article was created at around 10am Mountain Standard Time and deleted shortly thereafter. We respect the principles of NPOV and preventing conflicts of interest. In keeping with that, we are willing to submit a copy of the proposed content of the article to an administrator or editor at Wikipedia for review. Personal attacks and censorship by User:Desiphral

Thanks for handling the above-noted WP:ANI report so quickly. It wasn't my intention to have him warned for 3RR, though; the report was made in hopes of avoiding the need for one in the first place. —Psychonaut 14:26, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your comment about watchlisting, you may want to consider adding Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Roma Virtual Network, which concerns (or rather, is supposed to concern) the notability of a set of Yahoo! Groups mailing lists created by Novoselsky Valery. So far there have been no personal attacks or incivility, though some editors are making racially-grounded arguments, and I fear they may develop into the same sort of behaviour witnessed on the Bangová and Valery AfDs. —Psychonaut 08:50, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I see I spoke too soon. User:Valery novoselsky has alleged racism and has urged subscribers to the Roma Virtual Network to register on Wikipedia to vote—see Wikipedia talk:Articles for deletion/Roma Virtual Network. :( What are your thoughts on how this should be handled, if at all? —Psychonaut 10:16, 23 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fraternity Sigma Kappa Alpha

Dear merope, I am writing in regards to an article about my fraternity which you deleted due to notability. This group of brothers really wants to see the page remain active, and i am attempting to find the best route to take. I wish to run this by you for noteworthyness. We are a group founded by WWII veterans at the university of redlands. Now We have alumni who are gulf war veterans, as well as multiple alumni who are currently doing service in Iraq. they are members of the U.S. marine core, and the Elite Army Rangers. This brotherhood truly founds that to be a unique and noteworthy note. If referenced, would that be sufficient to keep the page active? Thanks very much for your response, i look forward to hearing back from you. Skarangermuffintop 16:15, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your edit to my talkpage

Hi, you defaced my Wikiproject Punk Box, anti-spam note and humourous barhere. Claiming that it was in violation of policies... I've already shown [1][2] how non of them are in violation of any of Wikipedia's policies at all. If you feel otherwise please show me a reference to any policy where it claims such things are not allowed. - The Daddy 19:13, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Deathrocker

He just told me he was off his ArbCom probation. This seems weird. He said that he was on probation for a year and ended in May. But Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Deathrocker#Enforcement by block Deathrocker says it passed on June 27, which means 5 days from now, his probation will end. Am I correct in assuming this? In fact, I never even saw the word "only for a year", on his ArbCom page, I just assumed good faith and took his word for it. Very confusing. — Moe ε 19:47, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Meh, I think you're fine, although I think the you have new messages' box should be left alone. It is his userspace and theres no policy, nor even a guideline anymore, about the UI spoofing. The ArbCom block seems to be justified though. — Moe ε 19:59, 22 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Some image deletions in The Smiths

I reversed an edit you made in the above article, but perhaps (upon general browsing) I am behind the WP times here, based on the general massacre of interesting graphic-based articles that seems to be going on right now, whether such images have direct relevance to the article subject or not.

So, please do feel free to revert my edit if this puritanical approach to images really is WP policy right now, but please do let me know (if such is the case) exactly which pending legal case has provoked such an onslaught of Cromwellian desperation with respect to fair-use images intended to achieve nothing but enhance an encyclopedia without prejudice to extraneous commercial interests. A personal note or something in Talk:The Smiths would be great. Many thanks in advance.--DaveG12345 01:51, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You deleted my Dragon Gate article

Whats going on asshole. Why did you decide to delete my Darkness Dragon article? If this happens again I'll find every article you have ever written or even contributed to & delete them myself.

Paul Watkins (Manson Family) (2)

I ask again: why has the link to the third-party transcript of the Watkins appearance on CNN's Larry King Live been left at the page? There is no possibility the transcript is a CNN product. It appears at the Manson Family Today website, where whoever posted it states (at its conclusion) that he or she "typed it on [his or her] laptop as [he or she] watched the show."

The partial transcript that has been deleted from the Wikipedia page was my own work -- as is demonstrated by its few, minor differences from the linked transcript. It was a valuable part of the article; it connected the Watkins appearance with information in his autobiography. Twenty years after the Manson crimes, Watkins was obviously disturbed by the call that came in to Larry King Live from the once-Family-member. The partial transcript made this clear. Without it, the article's final section -- "CNN Interview" -- has no meaning.

My question restated: If there are no copyright concerns associated with a link to a third party's full transcript of the broadcast, why may the Wikipedia article not contain a Wikipedia contributor's own partial transcript that has been included for a specific point?

In assembling the article, incidentally, I searched the CNN website for a transcript. I'm pretty sure I saw one there a year or two ago, but it didn't turn up in the search. -- John Bonaccorsi, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USAJohn B of Philadelphia 18:31, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Watkins (Manson Family) (3)

Your reply is unsatisfactory.

I am going to re-post my transcript of the conversation that took place among Watkins, Maureen Reagan, and "Jenny." As I have indicated, the transcript is a partial one that reveals that a significant event in the Manson Family's history occurred during the broadcast. Accordingly, use of it is fair.

I will search CNN's website one more time for a full transcript. If, again, I do not find it, I will link again to the third-party transcript, which reveals the context of the "Jenny" call. I will also link to one of the three YouTube video clips that were previously posted as "External Links" at the page. Clip 2 of the three picks up with the material I transcribed; that is the one I will link. -- John Bonaccorsi, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USAJohn B of Philadelphia 01:02, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

All right -- ya got me

Well, true -- the "historic significance" thing (re the transcript of the Watkins CNN appearance) is a bit weak; but I thought I'd give it a try. Anyway -- thanks for the reply. -- John BonaccorsiJohn B of Philadelphia 05:32, 27 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Margita Bangová

Whoever proposed the Margita Bangová article for speedy deletion has a point. It's been censored to the point where it no longer gives any indication as to why she is notable. (Some editors have removed all material in the article sourced by the Sun as "bogus", and are rather adamant that it stay out.) —Psychonaut 13:10, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I understand. I am hesitant to get into an edit war about this, but I think the stripping of legitimate sources and attempts to restore "NPOV" are just a way to acheive a backdoor deletion of sorts. I'll look it over today, perhaps -- I'm leaving for vacation tonight so I can just edit it and run away.  :) -- Merope 13:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't want to get into an edit war either, which is why I reverted only once. But there's no sense in keeping the article as it currently stands, as it cleary doesn't meet WP:N. Having failed to persuade the community that the article as it was orginally written did not meet Wikipedia's standards, certain editors have now completely rewritten the article so that it now very obviously doesn't meet Wikipedia's standards. There is doubtless some policy against such circumvention of the rules, but I'm not sure what it is. BTW, there's more about this at User talk:David Gerard#AFD closure. —Psychonaut 14:02, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I completely agree. Also, when one begins a controversial edit like that by mentioning civility and etiquette policies and warning against trolls, it's clear that the person knows he's going against consensus and wants to appear the honorable party. I've reverted the edit and left a couple of notes on the talk page. We'll see what happens. -- Merope 14:10, 28 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Creating a new Page Nortel Certifications

I left a message with Steve and the administrators asking what was wrong, can you help me? Same message below....

Help creating a page

Wikipedia is a Great Site!! I have only been a user for a couple of weeks so I am just starting to understand all the abilities and requirements for posting. I created a page then started to edit it on line and it was removed for copy right violations so I created the page in "Windows Note Pad" and then copied and pasted it from note pad to the page creation box and again it was deleted for copy right violation.

Am I doing something wrong?

I looked at several other pages on the Professional certification page and followed there examples. Below is another version of the page that I would like to create but I wanted to check before I posted it and got blocked from adding/editing pages to the site.

Nortel Certifications in Network computing, is an Information Technology (IT) professional certification on Nortel products and IEEE standard technologies. The Nortel Certification tests are administered by a Prometric test center. Nortel Training is accomplished by Nortel training partners like Global Knowledge.
