Infernus (Real name Roger Tiegs, born June 18, 1972 in Bergen, Norway) is a musician. He was the guitarist and only remaining original member of the Norwegian black metal band Gorgoroth up until 2007 where he was "removed" from the band line-up by vocalist Gaahl and bassist King ov Hell. He has also played in other black metal bands such as Borknagar and Orcustus (which contains ex-Gorgoroth member Tormentor). For the most part he was the primary song-writer for Gorgoroth, and much of his compositional skills, though rooted deep in extreme black metal, hearken a very classical feel that is rarely seen in the genre (many songs off the albums Antichrist and Under the Sign of Hell showcase these musical traits).
Gorgoroth Dispute, 2007
In October of 2007, Gaahl and Infernus had an undisclosed argument over the future of the band. Using a MySpace bulletin, they announced their dissolution. On October 22, this was the band's official website confirmed that Infernus will be leaving the band, but Gaahl and King ov Hell will continue touring and releasing material under the Gorgoroth name.
In an interview, Infernus attributed his argument with Gaahl to the latter's opposition to a contract with Roadrunner Records for the release of Ad Majorem Sathanas Gloriam when the label offered to review the album while it was in development. Infernus went on to explain that Gaahl demanded that the rest of the band that they accept a contract with Regain Records. Infernus stated that: "Roadrunner are the best label in the world. I was fucked when Gaahl signed us with Regain. That's why the album was so shit."[citation needed]
Infernus is filing suit against his former contemporaries for use of the name 'Gorgoroth'.
Beliefs
Unlike Gorgoroth's vocalist Gaahl - a practitioner of old Norse shamanism, Infernus is a bona fide Satanist and as a founding member of Gorgoroth, built the band on his philosophy and religion (although Gaahl -who uses Satanism as an anti-Right Hand Path medium - writes most of the lyrics), proclaiming himself as 'Satan's Minister on Earth'.[1] A practitioner of Theistic Satanism, he has expressed opposition to the Church of Satan on the basis of commercial frivolity, much like Glen Benton of Deicide and Euronymous of Mayhem.[citation needed]

Gorgoroth was founded by Infernus in 1992 as a strategy to perpetrate sonic and spiritual violence upon the world in order to bring forth change in peoples perception of being therein. Thus, through metal music, Satans minister on earth summoned an avatara of the forces of darkness and did let it manifestate through a variety of attempts on creating what was perceived as ultimate black metal taking form on stage as well as in a variety of studio recordings. [...] With the devoted presence of the new full time members Gaahl and King, as well as a not a day too early achieved social and mental fundament for future work, a deal was inked with the german label Nuclear Blast and the band to a bigger extent adopted the position as a live performance act taking upon them several tours worldwide bringing its sinister presence and the word of Satan to new territories...
