Conflict of interest notice

If you have a close connection to some of the people, places or things you have written about in the article Neal D. Barnard, you may have a conflict of interest. In keeping with Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy, edits where there is a conflict of interest, or where such a conflict might reasonably be inferred from the tone of the edit and the proximity of the editor to the subject, are strongly discouraged. If you have a conflict of interest, you should avoid or exercise great caution when:

  1. editing articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with,
  2. participating in deletion discussions about articles related to your organization or its competitors,
  3. linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam);
    and you must always:
  4. avoid breaching relevant policies and guidelines, especially neutral point of view, verifiability, and autobiography.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Business' FAQ. For more details about what constitutes a conflict of interest, please see Wikipedia:Conflict of Interest. To be clear, I don't think the edits you have made are particularly problematic, but I just thought your should be aware of our policies. Best wishes. Rockpocket 20:16, 16 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reverting

Hello again, Neal. Considering your reverts today, you don't appeared to have paid much heed to my conflict of interest notice, above. There is a few issues here that we should probably address. Firstly, if you are not the Neal Barnard then you are welcome to continue editing the article, but should probably change your username. I can help you do that. If you are the subject of the article, or are acting on his behalf then you really need to stop reverting the article to a whitewashed version.

I have tried to be as balanced as I can in my rewrite, there is some more, largely positive, material I wish to add, but I am waiting to get hold of a source I have requested. Everything else is sourced to 3rd party reliable sources. I have asked another experienced editor (who is sympathetic to Barnard's beliefs) to review the article for balance once I have finished, so you can be assured that this is not an attempt at a hatchet job on Barnard. If you have serious concerns about the content and would like to discuss them privately, feel free email me. If you are Barnard and would like to speak to someone else, see Wikipedia:Contact us/Article problem/Factual error (from subject). I have also asked for additional eyes here, feel free to comment. Rockpocket 00:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, the email link is here (though you will probably have to have your email preferences activated for it to work, see Wikipedia:Emailing users). Rockpocket 02:21, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps, if you would rather not activate email, we could discuss it here. Do you have concerns about the factual basis of some of the content? Is something incorrect? I appreciate it doesn't all paint Barnard in the post positive light, but our job is provide neutral coverage off all aspects of his work, both the controversial and the positive. I have invited other editors to review my edits for balance, so there should be a third perspective soon. Rockpocket 02:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I sent you detailed comments pointing out factual errors and other issues, supporting my edits before I made them. I see that you did not recieve them. What is the best way to communicate with you? Please appreciate that people who are used to email, telephone, etc., may have trouble navigating these various communication modes, and apparently I've not succeeded. I would like to communicate with you to clear this up.

Also, do you have a supervisor I can speak with?

Neal Barnard, MD

Message for you

Note for you here. Cheers, SlimVirgin (talk)(contribs) 07:03, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neal, you have now violated our policies by reverting more than three times in a 24 hour period, you have been edit warring without any attempt at discussing your concerns and you have been repeatedly removing sourced material from an article over which you appear to have a clear conflict of interest. You are already liable to be blocked for WP:3RR, however before reporting it I'm offering you one last chance to discuss your concerns rather than simply remove content. If you revert again, however, I will seek administrative action. Unless you acknowledge your concerns and identify yourself as Barnard, you also risk being indefinitely blocked for impersonation. Please realize that Wikipedia is not a place to promote oneself, it is an encyclopaedia. We are very interested in working with you to correct inaccurate material, but it is not appropriate for you to exercise editorial control of your own article. Thanks.
