List of extraterrestrials in Dragon Ball

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Hero 004 (talk | contribs) at 22:28, 20 December 2007 (Butta). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This is a list of fictional extraterrestrials (excluding the Saiyan race) who first appeared in the Dragon Ball manga, followed by the anime series, including the Dragon Ball films.

Bojack

File:Bojack Mugshot.png
Bojack

Bojack (ボージャック, Bōjakku) is a large, muscular extraterrestrial who plays the role of the main supervillain in Bojack Unbound. He somewhat resembles a gypsy-pirate, with blue-green skin, long orange hair and a long scar over his face. An increase to full-power brings about greater muscle mass, as well as alterations in color. Because of his ambition to rule the universe, Bojack was sealed inside a star by the Kaios, but released when North Kaio's planet was destroyed by Cell's suicide explosion. He travels to Earth with his henchmen to rid himself of any obstacles during a martial arts tournament, but is stopped by Son Gohan and his group. He was last seen among the rising dead in Fusion Reborn.

Bojack's henchmen

Bojack's henchmen.

The large mohawked member of Bojack's team, Bido works with Bujin by taking down the opponents that Bujin traps. Before he can kill Future Trunks, Vegeta blasts him through the roof, knocking down he and Bujin. He is punched in half by Gohan, unable to match him in Super Saiyan 2. His name has its root in the Japanese word hidō (非道), which means "unjust" and is often pronounced "bidō" when added to the end of words like gokuaku and zangyaku. Voiced by: Hisao Egawa (Japanese); Robert McCollum (English)

Bujin is the shortest fighter of the group who uses a paralyzing attack to stop opponents in their tracks. Like Bido he is killed by the transformed Gohan, split in two by a kick through the waist. "Bujin" is rooted in the Japanese word bōjakubujin (傍若無人), which means "arrogance or audacity" and is the same word from which Bojack's name is derived. Voiced by: Hiroko Emori (Japanese); Christopher Bevins (English)

Gokua wields a sword, and other than Bojack is the only team-member shown to transform. While it brings an increase in muscle mass (and a change in hair and skin color), it is not enough to upend Future Trunks in one-on-one battle. His name is derived from the Japanese word gokuaku (極悪), which means "heinous". He is not to be confused with the hero of Dragon Ball, Goku, hence why his name was changed to "Kogu" for the English dub. Voiced by: Toshiyuki Morikawa (Japanese); Iman Nademzadeh (English)

Zangya (ザンギャ, Zangya) is Bojack's only female underling. Despite defeating Kuririn, Bojack makes use of her as a shield to attack Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, killing her outright. She later makes a cameo appearance in the movie Fusion Reborn, resurrected from the dead through an afterlife mishap caused by Janemba. Zangya's name derives from the Japanese word zangyaku (残虐), which means "cruelty."

Zangya has made appearances as a playable character in the fighting games Super Butoden 2 (released in Japan only) and the second and third games of the Budokai Tenkaichi series. Voiced by: Tomoko Maruo (Japanese); Colleen Clinkenbeard (English)

Freeza's family

Coola

File:Double Coola Mugshots.png
Coola in his final form (above) and Metal Coola (below)

Coola (クウラ Kūra) is the main villain in the fifth and sixth movies of the anime Dragon Ball Z, introduced as the older brother of Freeza, and the oldest son of King Cold. His character was designed by Akira Toriyama, the original manga author, for Toei Doga's theatrical production. Like his brother, he can push his body through transformations to increase his power. Although only two forms are seen, it is stated in the fifth film that Coola possesses the same number of forms Freeza does, as well as a fifth and more powerful form.

He first travels to Earth in Cooler's Revenge to kill Goku, the saiyan that fought his brother. He ends up fighting Goku in his final form. Once transformed, he increases dramatically in size, speed, and strength; four horns grow to form a crown atop his head as spikes form on his forearms, and he now sports a facemask of sorts, hiding all facial features save his eyes, which are now red and pupiless. In the end, he is sent hurtling into the Sun by Super Saiyan Goku. Some of his remains merge with the Big Gete Star, allowing him to take control of it and create an indefinite amount of mechanical clones of himself that can constantly repair and improve upon themselves. Capable beyond his organic self, these Metal Coolas are a match for two Super Saiyans and now retain the ability of Shunkan Ido ("Instantaneous Movement"). Coola uses his newfound resources in a bid to absorb New Namek in Return of Cooler, but Goku and Vegeta destroy both him and the star in the end.

He later makes cameo appearances in Fusion Reborn and Dragon Ball GT, when all villains escape from Hell. A phantom Coola, along with what appears to be a resurrected Freeza, Tullece, and Lord Slug, attacked Goku and his friends in the Famicom game (and later Playdia re-make) Gaiden: Saiya-jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku (Side Story: The Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans) (an OVA was also released on VHS in August 1993), but these are merely false ghost-warriors meant to harass the heroes.

King Cold

King Cold (コルド大王, Korudo Daiō) is the father of Freeza and Coola, appearing briefly at the start of the Trunks Saga along with his now cyber-organic son. Approaching Earth, his power level is noted as one roughly equal to Freeza's, but later it's stated by Gohan that Freeza had yet to truly use his full power. Cold only appears in what seems to be a form similar to Freeza's second form, and it is unknown whether or not he has any other forms, although it is hinted at the idea that Freeza was the only one to create transformations to suppress his ki. While Freeza seeks to destroy Earth as revenge for his near-death by Son Goku's hands, his father cares only for eliminating those who oppose their clan's hold as "strongest in the universe". After Trunks shows up and easily dispatches Freeza, Cold offers Trunks the opportunity to take his son's place. His attempt at trickery against the mysterious youth fails, as once in possession of Trunks' sword Cold finds the Saiyan draws his power from elsewhere. His pleas for mercy fall on deaf ears as Trunks quickly finishes him off.

King Cold later has a cameo appearance in the Great Saiyaman Saga when Goku and Paikuhan are sent to stop the riots in Hell; he was taken one in one blow after Paikuhan defeated him with ease. He also appears alongside Freeza in Hell in which they are watching Goku fight Kid Buu.

King Cold is a playable character in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3, marking his first time being playable in the genre. He uses Trunks' sword as a weapon and can call upon the aid of Freeza in cyborg form.

Kuriza

Kuriza (クリーザ, Kurīza) is the son of Freeza who appears in the Dragon Ball self parody Neko Majin Z. He is brought by Onio to defeat Z, who had beaten Onio earlier. He claims him to be the "true" strongest in the universe, only to be rammed into the ground by an angry Neko Majin for having interrupted his battle with Thunderbolt, the alleged "strongest in the world." He tries to fight Z by transforming like his father. The fight is interrupted by the end of the manga. He decides to stay with Z until they can fight. He later cheers on Vegeta who came to rescue him, but Vegeta also reaches a stalemate with Z.

Kuriza appears in the Japanese version of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2 as an alternate outfit for his father, Freeza.

Freeza's henchmen

Appule

Appule is one of Freeza's henchmen on Namek whose mission was to help collect the Dragon Balls and report any sighting of Namekian villages. Later he is assigned to overseeing a healing Vegeta so he could be queried later, but things go wrong as Vegeta kills him as he escapes from the rejuvenation chamber. After his death he appears in Hell, to the side of Cell, Freeza and other past villains during some episodes of the Majin Buu Saga.

Appule makes an appearance as a playable character in a video game for the first time in the Japanese and PAL Wii versions of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2. He later made a full appearance in all versions of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3.

Dodoria

Dodoria (ドドリア, Dodoria) is one of Freeza's top henchmen; a large, pink alien with short spikes on his head and forearms. In Bardock: The Father of Goku, it was Dodoria who had Burdock's crew killed and easily defeated Burdock himself, leaving him for dead. He fails to confirm the dead body, however, and must apologize to his master for his negligence. He then traveled to Planet Namek with Freeza and Zarbon in search of the Dragon Balls. Once on the planet, Kuririn and Gohan interfered to save Dende from Dodoria, as he had already massacred a number of Namekians. He begins to pursue the three, only to encounter Vegeta. Outmatched, Dodoria pleads for mercy, telling Vegeta the truth about the destruction of Planet Vegeta, hoping it would aid in sparing his life. The plea fails as Vegeta slaughters him regardless.

In Dragon Ball GT, Dodoria would appear as one of the villains who escape from Hell during the Super 17 Saga.

Dodoria would go on to become a playable character in the video games Dragon Ball Z: Budokai and the Budokai Tenkaichi series.

Dodoria's Elite

Appearing only in the Burdock special, they are four of Freeza's lower-level warriors. Considered elite amongst the rank and file, they accompany Dodoria to Planet Meat to assist him in killing Burdock's crew. All four thought that because they had easily beaten Burdock's friends they thought they could take out Burdock without much difficulty. They were mistaken, and after a lengthy struggle, Burdock managed to kill all of them.

Ginyu Special Corps

File:Ginyu Group.jpg
The Ginyu Special Corps

A team of super-elite and powerful mutants, the Ginyu Special Corps (ギニュー特戦隊, Ginyū Tokusentai) is called upon by Freeza to assist in the defeat of Vegeta and obtainment of the Dragon Balls on Planet Namek during the course of the Freeza Saga in an attempt to regroup from Zarbon and Dodoria's previous failure. Though physically some of the very strongest in the universe, the Ginyu Special Corps' members delight in coming up with strange poses, betting candy on fights, and playing Janken to decide the order they should fight. All of their names are based upon dairy products.

Commander Ginyu

Commander Ginyu (ギニュー隊長, Ginyū Taichō) is the commander of the Ginyu Special Corps, and the strongest member on the team. He is purple and has veins on his head and horns that resembles Freeza's first form. His highest powerlevel, which is said by Jheese, is 120,000. He is one of the more flamboyant members of the Ginyu Special Corps, second only to Reacoom. Ginyu knows and uses a unique technique in the series, the ability to switch bodies with others. He fights with Goku after giving the Dragon Balls to Freeza only to be overwhelmed by his power. He uses his ability to switch bodies, but is unable to use Goku's strength to the fullest, levelling out at 23,000. After being battered by Gohan, Kuririn, and Vegeta, he tries to switch with Vegeta twice. The first time Goku in Ginyu's body jumps in the way, and the second time the injured Goku throws a Namekian frog in his way. He accidentally and forever changes bodies with a frog. Unable to speak, he can not transfer into a new body. In the anime only, when Bulma deems him harmless and translates his frog speech, he is transferred into her body. However, he reverts back to the frog when Gohan throws it into Ginyu's path of Piccolo, changing Bulma back and trapping him once more. He was later transported to Earth along with everyone else when Dende asked Porunga to transport everyone but Goku and Freeza there. Afterwards, he is supposed to live with normal earth-frogs in the frog pond at the Capsule Corp. He supposedly dies a natural death and is restored to his former body in the afterlife. Captain Ginyu makes his final appearance in Dragonball Z in Hell, with his body intact. He is seen with the other Z villains watching Goku in the final battle with Majin Buu. He cameoes later in Dragonball GT in front of Lord Emma's desk in Hell and as a frog again in Fusion Reborn.

Butta

Butta (バータ, Bāta) is the tallest member of the team. He is a blue-skinned alien nicknamed "The Blue Hurricane" who fancies himself the fastest person in the universe. And indeed he has incredible speed that he demonstrates by swiftly retrieving a Dragon Ball thrown by Vegeta in an effort to prevent it from falling into Freeza's hands. It is said by Kuririn that both Butta and Jheese are as strong as Reacoom. Along with Jheese, Butta sits out the fighting until Goku arrives and defeats Reacoom singlehandedly. Butta and Jheese jump in to attack Goku, but the Earth Saiyan proves both faster than Butta (much to his fury) and stronger than both of them. He then defeats Butta with two crippling blows to the back, and shortly thereafter, Vegeta finishes Butta off by dropping a knee on and breaking Butta's neck. He and Jheese fought Tenshinhan when they tried to invade North Kaio's planet in an anime filler, only to be defeated. He was once again defeated later by Goku.

Gurd

Gurd (グルド, Gurudo) is the smallest and least powerful member of the team physically. Though clearly the weakest member of the group, Gurd possesses some psychic abilities, including being able to stop time (for as long as he can hold his breath) and telekinesis. He fights Gohan and Kuririn, and nearly kills them before being decapitated then blown up by Vegeta. In an anime filler, he fought Chaiozu but was quickly defeated, before later making cameos in other fillers in a non-speaking role.

Jheese

Jheese (ジース, Jīsu) is an extremely flamboyant and showy (often portrayed as the rookie of the Ginyu Special Corps) white-haired alien who appears human apart from his red skin. According to Kuririn, he and Butta are about equal in strength to Reacoom. Nicknamed the "Red Magma", he often pairs with Butta for combination attacks. As his team-mates fall to Goku, Jheese retreats to Ginyu's side for reinforcements. Jheese is still clearly outclassed, however, and is singled-out and killed by Vegeta.

In anime filers, he fought Tenshinhan along with Butta when they attempted to conquer North Kaio's Planet.

Reacoom

Reacoom (リクーム, Rikūmu) is a large, muscular human-like alien with red hair. He is the most flamboyant member of the Ginyu Special Corps, seen striking poses more often in battle than Commander Ginyu himself, and generally behaving in a deceptively goofy manner. Reacoom is a sadistic fighter though, and enjoys toying with his opponents and egging them on with taunts before killing them. Though fought with great difficulty by Gohan, Kuririn, and Vegeta, Reacoom is overcome by Goku with one hit. Later, after Vegeta kills Butta, he also kills Reacoom, completely destroying his body with a huge ki blast. Reacoom would then fight Yamcha in an afterlife filler and lose to him. Reacoom would be seen among the other villains coming back from Hell in Dragon Ball GT.

Kiwi

Kiwi (キュイ, Kyui) was a high-ranking henchman of Freeza who used his superior rank and high power-level to instill fear in those he felt were beneath him. He harbors no small amount of ill-will towards Vegeta, rubbing in his and the other Saiyans failure on earth. After giving word that Freeza had learned of the Dragon Balls and was in route to Namek, Kiwi follows Vegeta there with the intent to kill him. Unfortunately for Kiwi, he is several times outmatched by his one-time rival, with Vegeta mocking his fighting ability and cowardice before killing him.

Kiwi would go on to make small appearance in filler and be featured as an opponent and playable character in several Dragon Ball Z video games. Other members of his race were later seen throughout the series.

Orin

Another one of Freeza's henchmen on Namek, Orin is likely of the same species as Appule except he is orange with large fangs and red eyes. Orin is the one who finds the Namekian village that Vegeta had attacked for its Dragon Ball. He interrogates the sole survivor, and learns that it was Vegeta’s doing. Orin then kills the dying Namekian and returns to Freeza’s ship to report. He lets it slip he killed the survivor without first asking where Vegeta may have hidden the Dragon Ball, which angers Freeza. He then kills Orin without a second thought, zapping him with ki beams from his eyes. Strangely enough, he was not resurrected apparently when Shenron and the Earth Dragon Balls were used to resurrect all who Freeza had killed on Namek.

Note that Orin only appears in the anime. In the manga, it is Appule who discovers the village Vegeta destroyed, and upon returning to report Freeza does not kill him but orders him to summon the Ginyu Special Corps.

Zarbon

Zarbon (ザーボン, Zābon) is Freeza's right-hand man and his most powerful henchman. He has light blue skin, long green braided hair and wears a tiara and earrings, giving him a more attractive look amongst Freeza's soldiers. Because of this, Zarbon thinks highly of himself and values things based on how attractive they are. Zarbon has the ability to transform himself into a powerful reptilian beast, increasing his strength and ferocity while also detracting from his looks. Because of this, he avoids transforming whenever possible. Zarbon accompanies Freeza to Planet Namek where he fights and captures Vegeta. When Vegeta recovers and escapes, Zarbon is sent to retrieve him, though Vegeta's increase in strength overwhelms him. Vegeta smashes his arm clean through Zarbon's stomach and shoots an energy blast right through his backside, cracking his backbone and sending him to a watery grave in the Namekian sea. Zarbon made appearances in anime fillers of the Freeza saga and advised Freeza to destroy Planet Vegeta in Bardock: Father of Goku. Zarbon returns twice, in Dragonball GT and the Fusion Reborn movie, but is defeated and sent back to hell on both occasions.

In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, Zarbon appears in a "what-if" scenario where he attempts to gain the Dragon Balls for himself and wish for eternal beauty. He eventually gets his wish, but ends up dying when Planet Namek explodes.

Namekians

Cargo

Cargo (カルゴ, Karugo) is the younger brother of Dende. He is killed in the manga by Freeza, but his murderer is changed to Dodoria in the anime. He is later revived by the Dragon Balls.

Dende

Lord Slug

File:Slug Mugshot.png
Lord Slug

Lord Slug (スラッグ, Suraggu) is the main antagonist of the fourth DBZ movie, Lord Slug. He was one of the ancient Namekians who discovered the key to unlocking a higher consciousness within. Known as Super Nameks, they soon became intoxicated by their new power and began to misuse it. With the power of the Dragon Balls, the people of Planet Namek were able to banish the Super Nameks from their planet for good, but the tyrannical Lord Slug continued conquering planets until he reached Earth where he used the Dragon Balls to restore his lost youth. Another part of his plan was to freeze the planet to make it a home for his soldiers, but in the end he was killed by Son Goku. It's interesting to note that in the Japanese version of Movie 4, Lord Slug doesn't tell people that he's a Namekian, and possibly doesn't even know. The back-story about Slug being a Super Namekian is added into the multiple language dubs, and isn't in the Japanese version. Lord Slug is also a playable character in both his Youth and Giant Super Namek forms in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 and 3.

Lord Slug's henchmen

Lord Slug's minions follow his orders and help him take over planets, and although they are of different species, each of them sports a short pair of devilish horns on their foreheads, and they are also incapable of withstanding levels of sunlight and warmth which are tolerable to Earthlings. They include:

  • Angira (アンギラ, Angira), a blue-skinned being with blonde hair who bears a mild resemblance to Zarbon and who can extend his arms to great lengths, much in the manner of a Namekian. He dies in a fight with Goku when Goku knocks his own energy attack back at him and he accidentally swallows it. Voiced by: Keiichi Nanba (Japanese); John Burgmeier (English)
  • Dorodabo (ドロダボ, Dorodabo), a large orange being with bat-like wings who resembles Dodoria (in both name and appearance). He doesn't appear to be very powerful, and he is easily killed by Piccolo after Piccolo goads him into a fight. Voiced by: Daisuke Gōri (Japanese); John Freeman (English)
  • Medamatcha (メダマッチャ, Medamaccha), a small, green froglike alien with wild yellow eyes and an insane laugh. He possesses the ability to create multiple miniature versions of himself that sprout from his back and latch onto victims, draining them of their energy. He is killed by Goku with a powerful punch to the stomach. Voiced by: Yukitoshi Hori (Japanese); Sean Schemmel (English)
  • Zeeun (ゼイウン, Zeiun), a large, muscular man with long brown hair, Zeeun, despite being feature prominently on the poster artwork for the film, is in it only briefly. He is killed by Slug with a finger-beam through the torso, after he slips up and calls Slug old. Voiced by: Kōji Totani (Japanese); Bradford Jackson (English)
  • Gyoshu (ギョーシュ, Gyōshu) and Kakuja (カクージャ, Kakūja) (Voiced by: Shōzō Iizuka), two short, hooded scientists who run Slug's ship. Gyoshu is killed by Slug for saying it would take too long to terra-freeze Earth, claiming he would need ten days. Kakuja, his replacement, manages to do it in less than three days. He later dies when Slug accidentally destroys the ship while trying to hit Gohan.
  • Slug also employs several identically-dressed soldiers who first appear wearing helmets that cover their entire heads. When their helmets are removed, they resemble purple versions of one of Freeza's four henchmen Bardock fought with from Bardock: The Father of Goku. Most of them are killed by Gohan and Piccolo; the rest are killed by Slug for running away from Goku, or when Slug accidentally destroys the ship.

Moori

Moori (ムーリ, Mūri) (sometimes spelled "Muri") is the elder of the Namekian village that Kuririn and Gohan first saw Freeza attacking. His fighting power isn't high, but he is very clever. He manages to destroy all of Freeza's scouters. This causes Freeza's collection of the Dragon Balls to be seriously delayed. Freeza later orders Moori to be slain along with his younger brothers Dende and Cargo. It was revealed by Dende that all the current Namekians on the planet Namek are the direct children of Saichoro, and thus are all brothers. Dodoria carries out Freeza's order, and breaks Moori's neck with his bare hands.

Moori is included in the wish to bring back those killed by Freeza and his men. Shortly before Guru dies again, he names Moori as the new Great Elder, saying that the Dragon Balls will shine again. Moori and his people eventually travel to a new planet similar to Namek with the help of the Dragon Balls. Moori appears again in the Buu Saga, when the Namekian Dragon Balls are needed to solve the Majin Buu crisis. It is revealed that because of Freeza's past attack on Namek, that Moori has powered up Namek's dragon Porunga — giving Porunga the ability to bring multiple people back to life with one wish.

Nail

Nail (ネイル, Neiru) is a Namekian who looks exactly like Piccolo, apart from the attire. He is described as the last fighter-class Namekian left. He is the personal bodyguard to Saichoro, and was the strongest Namekian left on the planet. His maximum fighting power is 42,000, as mentioned by Freeza.

During the Freeza Saga, Nail had to stall Freeza by himself in order to prevent him from obtaining the Dragon Balls and possibly killing him and Saichoro. Nail was no match for the tyrant, and even lost an arm (which he regenerated using Sai Sei) during the battle. Before Freeza could finish Nail off, Nail revealed that this fight was to delay Freeza so Dende could get the Namek Dragon Ball's password to the Earthlings, Kuririn and Son Gohan. An enraged Freeza immediately left Nail for dead.

Shortly afterwards a newly resurrected Piccolo arrives and finds the disabled Namek. Nail is still able to speak, and asks Piccolo to fuse with him in order to increase his chances against Freeza, and at the same time save his life. Piccolo agrees after some questioning of Nail's motives, and indeed his power level increases dramatically, allowing him to stand toe to toe with Freeza's second form. However, this advantage quickly disappears when Freeza transforms again. Still later, Dende learns that Piccolo and Nail have fused, and Piccolo is shown to still have elements of Nail's personality within him, as shown by his distress when Saichoro reveals that he is dying. At one point during the fight with Freeza, Nail communicates directly with his enemy, in a split personality-style relationship with Piccolo. However, this only occurs once, and in later "appearances" of Nail, his voice simply underlies Piccolo's.

Nail appears as a playable character in the video game Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3. This is his debut as a playable character in a fighting game, excluding the Budokai series where he was an alternate costume for Piccolo.

Piccolo

Saichoro

Saichoro (最長老, Saichōrō) (saichō-rō "longest aged" or "eldest") is the oldest and wisest remaining Namek in existence and the 1 of the 2 survivors of a cataclysmic climate shift several hundred years prior to the events in the series (The other being Kami-sama, who later split into himself and Piccolo Daimao). All current Nameks alive on the planet are descended from him. (It was revealed that he had at least 108 children, though some may not have still been alive at the time of the Freeza Saga. Piccolo / Kami are descended from a Namek that died in the cataclysm: Katatsu.) He was also in control of the Dragonballs of Planet Namek (though he may not have created them). He had many powers similar to that of Kami on Earth, but it is never stated whether he was the local Kami of Namek. When he eventually dies, the Dragon Balls become solid stone.

Tsuno

Tsuno (ツーノ, Tsūno) is the Namekian village elder that Vegeta confronts and kills. He is voiced in the original Japanese version by Naoki Tatsuta.

Tsufurujin

Long ago, this race lived peacefully on their planet called Planet Plant. They possessed a very advanced civilization, and lived in high-tech cities across the planet. Their neighbors, the Saiyans, were a rugged race of barbarians who resided in the wastelands. The two native races of the planet lived side-by-side until the Saiyans decided to attack. The Saiyans declared war on the Tsufurujin, and although the Saiyans were physically much stronger, the Tsufurujin technology meant they had the upper hand in the war, until the full moon came up, an event that only happens on the planet once every 100 years. The Saiyans' ability to transform into Oozaru whenever they are exposed to moonlight makes them ten times more powerful, and allowed them to easily defeat the Tsufurujin. They took over the planet and renamed it Vegeta, after their king.

Baby

Dr. Raichi

Dr. Raichi is one of only two survivors of the Saiyan assault on his Tsufurujin homeworld Planet Plant, later renamed Planet Vegeta. Using an attack on Earth, he lures Goku, Gohan, Trunks and Vegeta (the last remaining Saiyans)to the 'Dark Planet' to gain a measure of revenge. He is later found to be a "ghost-fighter" remnant generated by the true threat, Hachihyaku, and ultimately destroyed. His name is a pun on the fruit lychee.

Hachihyaku

Hachihyaku is a device powered by the Tsufurujin's longstanding grudge against the Saiyans, built by Dr. Raichi and featured in the Famicom & PlayDia game Dragon Ball Z Gaiden: Plan to Eradicate the Saiyans. The machine generated "ghost-warriors" until which time it manifested its own powerful body to combat the heroes. Despite having strength comparable to the villain Broli, Hachihyaku is defeated by the Saiyans' combined force. His name is Japanese for 800, and read backwards is 108 (hyakuhachi), an auspicious number in many Asian cultures.

Machine Mutant

A new type of Artifical Human, introduced in Dragon Ball GT. They appear to be the creations of Dr. Myu, a Machine Mutant himself. Machine Mutants (and Machine Mutant technology in general) are fully mechanical beings with organic properties; they can mold, contort, and reshape like organic lifeforms. Although low-class Machine Mutants tend to appear completely mechanical, upper-class Machine Mutants, such as General Rilld, display these morphing capabilities.

Dr. Myu

Dr. Myu (ミュー, Dr. Myū) is a brilliant scientist who desires nothing more than total control of the galaxy. Dr. Myu masterminds the plot to build an ultimate machine mutant with enough power to see his sinister goal of control through to the end. To this end, he created a powerful enforcer named General Rilld, and tried to gather the Black Star Dragon Balls to use them to complete his creation, Baby, and use it to take over the universe. However, Goku, Pan, and Trunks got past Rilld and foiled Myu's plans. Dr. Myu escaped, but was killed when Baby burst out of his body. It was revealed then that Baby was actually the one that programmed Dr. Myu, and not the other way around.

Dr. Myu later joins forces with Dr. Gero in Dragon Ball GT and creates another 17, who controls the original Artificial Human 17 and converges their powers together to set a rift between Earth and Hell. Hell's 17 and the two scientists escape, following which the two 17s eventually fuse together to become Super 17. Super 17 betrays and kills Gero thanks to Myu's programming changes, then goes on to dominate the Z Fighters (including Super Saiyan 4 Goku thanks to his absorption field ability) that Myu truly believes he can take over the universe, until Artificial Human 18 shows up and gets in his head by appealing to his sense of self.

Myu, in anger at 18's apparent influence, orders Super 17 to destroy Goku and 18 with his Electro Eclipse Bomb attack so as to show them "who he really is" and that he "can't be manipulated or controlled". However, 17 turns on Myu, the very man who had been using him the entire time, and destroys him with the attack.

General Rilld

General Rilld (リルド, Rirudo) is a machine mutant created by Doctor Myu in charge of security on his planet. When Goku, Pan, and Trunks arrive on the planet in search of the Black Star Dragon Balls, Rilld sends the Sigma Force to capture them. The Sigma Force are defeated by Goku and Trunks, leaving Rilld to take care of the two by himself. Using his special beam that transmutes any object into metal, Rilld captures Trunks, but is still defeated by Goku. After combining with the remaining scraps of the Sigma Force, Rilld powers up to his Meta Rilld form, forcing Goku to transform into a Super Saiyan to fight him properly. As Goku begins to gain the upper hand, Rilld transforms again into Hyper Meta Rilld to allow him to fuse with any metal on the planet and make him nearly invincible. Despite this, Rilld is still defeated by Goku. Later, when Goku, Pan and Trunks escape from Myu's lab, they attempt to leave planet M2 when Rilld (possessed by Baby) tries to pull the ship down. He is killed when the trio use a triple Kamehameha.

Rilld returns later when the gateway to Hell is opened and fights against Gohan. He had the upper hand but is killed when Gohan is rescued by Ubuu, Goten and Trunks.

His name, Rilld (rirudo) is an anagram of "drill" (doriru) in the original Japanese version, playing on the fact that one of his hands transforms into a drill when he makes his initial transformation. FUNimation, however, chose to name him Rilldo instead.

Gill

Gill (ギル, Giru) is a Machine Mutant that accompanies Son Goku, Pan, and Trunks on their quest to find the Black Star Dragon Balls. His true name is G2006. The three first met him on a desert planet, while he was on the brink of death. After eating the Dragon Radar for energy, he tried to escape from them, but was ultimately caught by Goku. After that, they found out that the radar intergraded into his software. Upon arriving on the planet, M2, he betrays them. Gill later has a change of heart and him and Trunks come up with a plan to make Myu reveal his ultimate secret. The plan works and Gill and Trunks manage to save Goku and Pan from Dr. Myu. Gill then becomes part of the Black-Star Dragon Ball team again. In the series, Gill keeps getting destroyed but is later fixed by Trunks.

Sigma Force

Four robots that were part of Rilld's forces on Machine Planet M2. Together they had the ability to merge with Rilld to make him even stronger and also the power to fuse themselves into one mechanized being to perform the "Mega Cannon". The group consists of Commander Nezi, Bizu, Ribet, and Natt. Their names are based on tools and construction hardware: "wrench", "vice", "rivet", and "nut" respectably.

Others

Arlian

A race of insect-like people on a planet where Vegeta and Nappa stopped while on their way to Earth. It is ruled by the tyrant king Moai, who overthrew the previous ruler Atla and married his wife Lemlia. They pretend to surrender while the king is watching a sword-fighting tournament, Esau became the champion while the loser Urdo was thrown into "the pit" and devoured by Moai's pet Yenni, a giant Arlian. Vegeta and Nappa killed the champion Esau and then the king and his army. Atla, freed from the dungeons, praises them as heroes and was reunited with Lemlia until the Saiyans destroyed their planet.

Coola's Armored Corps

Like the mercenary Ginyu Special Corps - right down to the vapid posing - called upon by Freeza on Planet Namek, Coola's Armored Corps compose the elder brother's own special fighting team. These three warriors serve as Coola's subordinates throughout the course of the fifth film. Their dress is the customary garb of soldiers in Freeza's military; an extended length of armor juts from their left shoulder, while the uniforms themselves are in Coola's primary colors of purple and white. Akin to all Dragon Ball characters, their names are derived from puns - in this case, condiments and salad dressings.

Dore (ドーレ Dōre) (FUNimation's dub: Doore) is vaguely Hulk-like in appearance and accompanies Coola along with the rest of his team to Earth. He and the others are assigned to finding Son Goku so his master can redeem his family's hurt pride. Finding Son Gohan instead, Dore torments him by squeezing his head in his bare hand like a vice. Piccolo catches him unawares and soon thereafter finishes him off with a homing ki blast. His name was lifted from doresshingu, or salad dressing. Voiced by: Masaharu Satou (Japanese); Mike McFarland (English)

Naise (ネイズ, Neizu) (FUNimation dub: Neiz) can hide his head in his shoulders in order to dodge blasts. After Dore's death, Naise attempts to neutralize Piccolo using one of his special techniques, only to have the Namek smirk as he reflects the attack back whist Naise was gloating, killing him instantly. He takes his name from the common condiment mayonnaise. Voiced by: Masato Hirano (Japanese); Bill Townsley (English)

Thousar (サウザー, Sauzā) (FUNimation's dub: Salza) is a blue-skinned "pretty boy" alien (much like Zarbon) who serves as Coola's right-hand man. Able to slice through objects using a blade of ki formed in his right hand, Thousar is the longest lived of the Corps, matching Piccolo's initial attack and knocking Son Gohan and Kuririn out of action. He then confronts an angered Son Goku only to have his punch have no effect, and is driven into a cliffside just by Goku channeling his power. Thousar survives, and in the end tries a sneak attack to kill Goku and his friends after Coola's apparent death, only to be caught offguard and killed himself by Piccolo's Makankōsappō. He returns in Fusion Reborn only to be defeated by Gohan after Freeza's death.

Thousar's name comes from a pun on Thousand Island salad dressing. Coincidentally, his name change in the dub keeps with the condiment pun, as salsa is Spanish for sauce. Also, in the FUNimation dub, Thousar speaks with a distinctive French accent.

His first video game appearance is in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2, where his profile states he is of the same race as Jheese and has a rivalry with Commander Ginyu. In Dragon Ball Z: Super Sonic Warriors 2, Coola can summon Thousar to perform rapid slashes with his ki blade.

He is voiced by Sho Hayami in the Japanese version, by Michael Marco in the movie Cooler's Revenge, and by Christopher Sabat in Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2.

Kanassajin

A race of fishlike people featured in the Burdock Special. Inhabitants of Planet Kanassa, they are said to possess psychic abilities, thus Freeza orders their extermination out of paranoia that they could become a threat to him. They are wiped out by Burdock's team, as Oozaru who attacked during a full moon. The next morning, the lone survivor, Tooro, catches Burdock's team off guard. He attacks the back of Burdock's neck, giving him the "gift" of seeing the future. This cursed ability allowed the Kanassans to see haunting visions of their impending destruction at the hands of the Saiyans. Tooro mocks Burdock's victory, saying that now he too is cursed to see the destruction of his people.

Kanassa is a pun on a type of fish.

Paikuhan

Paikuhan (パイクーハン, Paikuhan) is of an unknown species from the West Galaxy and is the West Kaiō's best student. Like several other filler characters, Paikuhan was designed by Akira Toriyama. Paikuhan met Son Goku in the afterlife and defeat Cell, Freeza and numerous others during an uprising in Hell with relative ease. When Goku mentions Piccolo to him he curiously mentions the name to himself as though it has some unforeseen relevance to him, though this relationship has never been explored throughout the series. He fought Goku in the final match of the Afterlife Tournament and, upon having the match result in a draw, struck up a friendship with Goku. He later makes the mistake of taunting Kid Buu, almost resulting in his being wiped out of existence. He appears again in the twelfth Dragon Ball Z film helping Goku defeat Janemba, eventually holding off Janemba by himself to give Goku & Vegeta time to become Gogeta.

Paikuhan has appeared as a playable character in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai, Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai - Another Road and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2. Paikuhan also has to be fought in Dragon Ball Z: Buu's Fury.

Saibaimen

Small, humanoid fighters used by the Saiyans for the purpose of training, these creatures first appeared during the battle with Nappa, grown in the Earth's soil to battle the defending Z-Fighters. Not limited to attacking only with claws, Saibaimen have the unique ability to shoot a stream of acid from the top of their heads, and if forced can self-destruct as a last resort.

While comparatively strong at their juncture of the series, most of the Saibaimen are dispatched in turn. One was killed by Vegeta after failing to defeat Tenshinhan, another had no choice but to use the self-destruct attack on Yamcha in order to win, three were killed by Kuririn's raining energy blasts, and the remaining one was killed by Piccolo. They later appear in Dragon Ball GT as they escaped from Hell, but they are taken down easily by Goten and Trunks.

When translating the manga, Viz Media altered their original name to Cultivars in order to keep with the Japanese pun. Some compare them to the Cell Juniors, as they have a similar role. In Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 2, Dr. Gero has a group of differently-colored Saibaimen called the Saiba Rangers, obviously a parodious reference to the Power Rangers.

Tullece's henchmen

A group of five mercenaries who serve Tullece during his attempt to plant the Tree of Might during the like-titled film. They fight against (and defeat) all of Goku's friends, before ganging up on Goku himself. After a short fight, Goku powers up immensely and defeats each of them with a single hit, though whether or not they are killed is never stated.

  • Daīzu (ダイーズ Daīzu; pun on "daizu," meaning "soybean" in Japanese): Seemingly Tullece's second-in-command; moderately short with a ponytail
  • Cacao (カカオ Kakao; pun on "cacao" bean): A cyborg-type being with red skin.
  • Rezun (レズン Rezun; pun on "raisin"): First of small, plump alien twins who can form a single entity.
  • Rakasei (ラカセイ Rakasei; pun on "rakasei," meaning "peanut" in Japanese): Second of small, plump alien twins.
  • Amond (アモンド Amondo; pun on "almond"): A tall, muscular alien.

Yardrat

The Yardrat race was first met by Goku after the defeat of Freeza on Planet Namek. He arrived in an abandoned Ginyu pod that had already been pre-programmed for Yardrat. Due to this fact, it is likely that the Ginyu Special Corps were planning to destroy the Yardrats had they not been defeated on Namek. They are a physically weak race, but possess the ability to manipulate space and time, and teach Goku a teleporting technique. In the video game Dragon Ball Z: Sagas, an original character of the race is created; Soba (another food pun, referring to Soba noodles), who has a sparring match with Goku just before he departs for Earth.

Misc.

  • Minosha and Tapion are brothers who appear in the movie, Wrath of the Dragon. They were from the planet Konats, which was attacked and nearly destroyed by the monster Hirudegarn. Together, they sealed the two halves of Hirudegarn within themselves and were then sealed into two separate magical containers. To keep the monster from reviving, they were sent to different ends of the universe. Minosha, guardian of Hirudegarne's lower half, was freed by the evil magician Hoi and killed by Hirudegarn. Tapion, guardian of Hirudegarn's top half, wound up on Earth. Hoi, now in control of Hirudegarn's lower half, tricked the Z-Fighters into wishing for Shenlong to open the box and release Tapion. Outside of the box, Tapion could not contain Hirudegarn, as the monster's proximity to its other half gave it power. The monster rejoined with its other half, but Tapion attempted once more to contain it and have Trunks kill him. Trunks hesitated and the monster is again freed. After Goku defeated Hirudegarn, Tapion gave his sword to Trunks. Bulma gives Tapion a time machine, and he travels back to his home planet to be with his brother.
  • Ozotto appears as the final opponent in the arcade game DBZ: V.R.V.S. and has the power to shapeshift into certain Z-Fighters. He also uses his tail to attack. He is nicknamed "The Super Monster". He hasn't appeared anywhere else in the DBZ universe and is exclusive to this game.
  • Lychee and Zarkuro are two shapeshifting aliens that Bulma, Kuririn, and Gohan met on their way to Namek. After the gang crash landed on their desolate planetoid, they posed as Nameks, and cloaked their world in a lush, and fertile illusion. Their quest to collect the Dragonballs was merely a ruse created to steal Kami's spaceship, and escape their lifeless prison.
Neither Raiti or Zacro appeared in the original manga, being anime-only filler characters for the Namek Saga. Raiti is based on "raichii" or "lychee" ,and "Zacro" is based on "zakuro" or "pomegranate".
  • Zesin, Bun and Emmy were children that lost their parents and their home planet to Freeza's army. The three were part of a resistance group that thought Bulma, Kuririn, and Gohan were their enemies for a time. Bun's family was killed by Freeza's henchman Kiwi. They appear only in filler episodes of the series.
