Taking Chances is the latest English-language album from Céline Dion, released on November 7 2007 in Japan, between November 9 and 12, 2007 in Europe, on November 10 2007 in Australia and New Zealand, and November 13 2007 in North America.[1] It is her 13th English album and 35th in total.
Album information
Céline Dion worked with many different producers for this album, mainly on pop, rock and R&B songs. The tracks were recorded mostly during Dion's summer holiday, between July 2 and August 15 2007.[2]
- "Taking Chances" was written by Kara DioGuardi and David A. Stewart from Eurythmics, and produced by Grammy Award-winner John Shanks. It was recorded in April 2007 and released as the first single from the album.[3]
- "Alone" is a power ballad written by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly, and originally recorded by American band Heart. It became a worldwide hit in 1987. Dion's cover was produced by Ben Moody, ex-member of Evanescence. Although it wasn't released as a single, due to digital download sales, the song debuted in UK at number 85. For the same reason it entered the following U.S. charts: Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles (number 24), Pop 100 (number 86), and Hot Digital Songs (number 81). In Canada, it debuted at number 57 on the Canadian Hot 100 and number 25 on the Hot Canadian Digital Singles.
- "Eyes on Me" is a Middle Eastern-flavored song written by Kristian Lundin, Savan Kotecha and Australian singer Delta Goodrem, and produced by Lundin.[4] It will be released as the second single in the United Kingdom and Ireland on January 7 2008.
- "My Love" was written especially for Dion by Linda Perry. She also produced the track.
- "Shadow of Love" was written by Anders Bagge, Aldo Nova and Peter Sjöström, and produced by John Shanks.
- "Surprise Surprise" is the second track written by Kara DioGuardi (this time co-written by Martin Harrington and Ash Howes). It was produced by Emanuel "Eman" Kiriakou and DioGuardi.[5]
- "This Time" was written by David Hodges, Ben Moody and Steven McMorran, and produced by Moody and Hodges.[6] [7] The song is about an abused woman breaking free.
- "New Dawn" is a gospel track written and produced by Linda Perry. It was originally recorded by Perry on her After Hours album in 1999.
- "A Song for You" is a piano-heavy ballad written by Anders Bagge, Aldo Nova and Robert Wells, and produced by Bagge.[8]
- "A World to Believe In" is another track produced by John Shanks, written by Tino Izzo and Rosanna Ciciola. The new version, which is a duet with Yuna Ito, will be released as the second single in Japan, on January 16 2008.[9]
- "Can't Fight the Feelin'" is one of five tracks written by Aldo Nova for this album. It was co-produced by John Shanks and Nova.
- "I Got Nothin' Left" was co-written by American singer Ne-Yo and Charles Harmon, and produced by Chuck Harmony and Ne-Yo. The latter wrote also Beyoncé Knowles' hit song "Irreplaceable" among others.
- "Right Next to the Right One" was originally written and recorded by Tim Christensen in 2002 and became a hit in Denmark. Dion's version was produced by Christopher Neil. Although not released as a single, it entered the Danish Singles Chart on November 23 2007 at #13, due to digital downloads.
- "Fade Away" was written by Peer Astrom, David Stenmarck and Aldo Nova, and produced by Astrom.
- "That's Just the Woman in Me" is a blues-flavoured track written by Kimberly Rew, and recorded by Katrina and the Waves in the 80s, which remained unreleased until 2003. Dion's version was produced by John Shanks.
- "Skies of L.A." was co-written by Christopher 'Tricky' Stewart, The-Dream and Thaddis Harrell, and produced by 'Tricky' and Kuk Harrell. The-Dream and 'Tricky' are responsible for Rihanna's 2007 hit "Umbrella" among others.[10]
- "Map to My Heart" was written by Guy Roche and Shelly Peiken, and produced by Roche. It was featured on the "Taking Chances" CD single and the Japanese version of the album. It's also the iTunes bonus track.
- "The Reason I Go On" was included on the Japanese version of Taking Chances. It was written by Christian Leuzzi, Aldo Nova, A. Borgius, and produced by Ben Moody and David Hodges. It was also the iTunes pre-order only bonus track.
- "Let Me Be Your Soldier" is a leftover from the recording sessions.
- Fragments from the Live in Las Vegas - A New Day... DVD (released on December 7 2007) were included on the special editions of Taking Chances.
