- Deposit Slip - Q. Why does it exist? Why does the customer fill it out in the era of banks competing on service? A. It is true that in this time and age where everything is computerized, it is counter productive for the customer to fill out this form. Afterall, you get a deposit receipt for your records. The usefulness of deposit slips come into play when you receive cash back from deposits of checks. There is a spot for you to sign for authorization to withdraw cash from the target account in lieu of waiting for the checks to clear. Your signature indemnifies the bank in case the checks do not clear. This entry will be deleted on Feb 2, 2008.

- Mandrake Mechanism - recently given on NPR as a reason not to worry about the deficit How the Fed creates liquidity - seems to be a possibly perjorative description of how, in the opinion of some, central banks are able to print money without adding reserves in a 1-to-1 ratio. These people often advocate that such a reserve requirement should be imposed. The name derives from Mandrake the magician and seems designed to liken the addition of liquidity to a conjuring trick.
