Free for You

Hey RyRy5! Feel free to edit my User page!--Chrisy5 (talk) 14:28, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, already fixing it. But you have to work on it your own from now on. Sorry but I have alot of work to do on Wikipedia.--RyRy5 (talk) 16:42, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free image in user space

Hi RyRy5,
I just changed your user page to prevent a non-free image from being displayed there. Fair use images can't be used in user space. Please see WP:FAIR for more info. --OnoremDil 03:53, 28 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I kinda decided not to add pictures to my userpage anymore. I was going to remove it anyway. Thanks.--RyRy5 (talk) 04:40, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok !

Thanks for the userbox can you add more over time thanks. --Casey906262 (talk) 21:34, 7 March 2008 (UTC) Ok i'll try. --Casey906262 (talk) 23:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ha Ha!

See I did find your user page that was kinda fun cool! --Casey906262 (talk) 00:26, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

RFA

I've reverted your addition. You are supposed to create your RFA and transclude it at the top. I would dissuade you from going for an RFA at this moment because you probably need more experience. Read the Wikipedia:Administrators' reading list for things that you should read up on and be experienced with to see what an administrator should be familiar with. bibliomaniac15 I see no changes 23:16, 2 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, and welcome to the Red Sox WikiProject! We are a group of (mainly) Red Sox fans who help to improve coverage related to the Boston Red Sox on Wikipedia.

Looking for somewhere to start? Here are a few suggestions.

 • You can check out topics on the main page.
 • You can add WikiProject Boston Red Sox to talk pages of Boston Red Sox-related articles, and assess them as well.
 • Check out the to do list for the WikiProject, and opt to try and complete some of those tasks.

If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the project in general, feel free to leave a message on the talk page.

  jj137 (talk) 00:09, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds fine to do. :)   jj137 (talk) 20:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Status

What I did was create a user subpage with the following coding:

<div style="position:absolute; z-index:100; right:150px; top:10px;" class="metadata" id="Status">
{{#switch: {}
| online = <font color="green">Online</font>
| offline = <font color="red">Offline</font>
| busy = <font color="teal">Busy</font>
}}</div>

I then created another user subpage where I indicate my status. That page is transcluded onto my userpage and user talk page; I added some JS coding as well to make updating it easier. That probably sounds confusing, so if you need help setting it up, just tell me.   jj137 (talk) 20:42, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure when the next newsletter delivery will be. Anyway, I set up the status thing, so if you want it, put at the top of the page. You can modify that page as well.   jj137 (talk) 01:45, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that was a little confusing. It actually is the brackets (not the parentheses); wherever you want your status to appear, put somewhere on that page. Go to User:RyRy5/Status and change your status from "undefined" (that's just what I defaulted it to - you won't ever need to change it back to that) to "online", "offline", or "busy".   jj137 (talk) 21:58, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The symbols (I can't remember the names of them) provide a link to another page. When you want to transclude a page, use brackets . I fixed it for you on your userpage. :)   jj137 (talk) 21:27, 6 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar

The BoSox Barnstar
For your work in creating and writing four biographies on Boston Red Sox players, I award you the BoSox Barnstar.   jj137 (talk) 01:09, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, thank you. It isn't easy creating and writing articles.   jj137 (talk) 01:29, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Some other good place you can try are Baseball-Reference and Baseball Almanac.   jj137 (talk) 01:45, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're off to a good start. :)   jj137 (talk) 02:15, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Secret page

Here's what you can do to create a secret page:

 • Create a user subpage with some sort of odd name. (for example, User:RyRy5/Secret page, but you should probably make it a little more creative) On the page, everyone who found it could list their name, and a barnstar they can "give themselves" for finding it. If you need help creating one, just ask.
 • Add some sort of very hidden link on your user page to it. Optionally, you could have a fake secret page(s) to trick people looking for it and make it harder to find the real one.
 • You're done.   jj137 (talk) 13:03, 7 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, got your message on my talk page. Was a pleasure to help out. I love the Sox and like to work on articles for the lesser known past/present or up and coming players. Hardnfast (talk) 11:43, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Red Sox

Thanks for the invite. I don't really follow the Red Sox closely enough to be a regular contributor. I'm more of a historian, adding occasional info about old stuff. Hence my user page icon, "building a bridge to the 19th century". :) Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 19:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I will help when I can, just not as a formal member of a project team. I have certain topics that I focus on, but I am not actually a member of any project team. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 19:36, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Opinion

It sounds fine with me, but I probably won't keep track of mine.   jj137 (talk) 20:48, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:New writer

Let's see.

 • The main page is at WP:BOSOX/NEWS.
 • The newsroom is at WP:BOSOX/NEWSROOM.
 • It seems we are just delivering it whenever there is enough content in it. (I have a bot that delivers it when we're ready.)
 • You can add new articles you have created to the latest issue.
 • We usually have 2 or 3 "articles" in each edition as well as 3 featured articles for the week.
 • When writing an article, you can put on top of the subpage followed by the title, "by RyRy5", and the story. If you look at old issues, you will see how we set it up.

I think that's it.   jj137 (talk) 03:43, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I signed your guestbook, but I can't find your secret page.   jj137 (talk) 20:45, 9 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I just found it! That was hard. I just copied your background and changed the color. What do you think? Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 01:32, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did it the really hard way using my good eyesight, I didn't think of that though. :) BTW, Good luck. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 01:43, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's in the intro. I colored the link to match the surrounding text. I copied the formatting but I changed the color and everything. Hope this helps! Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 01:53, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I do like baseball. I'm a Reds fan. I own MLB 2K7 for both the DS and PSP. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 03:08, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I like the Red Sox. I also like the Indians, Tigers, White Sox, and Marlins. The Reds are still my favorite. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 03:21, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome. I can be a minor contributor to the newsletter. It's nice to have a quicker way to change status. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 01:24, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption is basically just a formal mentorship. More experienced user adopt inexperienced users and answer questions and the like. Enigma is my adoptee. He has over 5,000 edits but has less experience overall than I do despite my much lower edit count. WP:ADOPT has alot more info about this. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 02:27, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Hidden Barnstar
This user has found Basketball110's secret hidden sub page! Can you find it?

Basketball110 03:05, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You got me! I cheated... but only on the real secret page. Basketball110 00:51, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No! I cheated only on the cheaters page. I also cheated on the secret page, but I thought the cheaters page was the secret page. Confusing... Basketball110 00:53, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Secret page

Hmm, I don't know. I went to the page and it said it was the real secret page, and I just took the barnstar from there.   jj137 (talk) 22:09, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No Offense...

But I'm looking for someone who has done considerably more than I have. I'm already at 500+, and you started after I did. So hope you dont take offense, but I would prefer someone more exerienced. Thanks for noticing though! Queerbubbles | Leave me Some Love 12:44, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Color name

Here's how: go to Special:Preferences. Check the box that says "Raw signature"; in the Signature box, put:   <font color="blue">RyRy5</font> <font color="green">(talk)</font>

When you sign your comments, that will appear. If you want to change it, just go to there.   jj137 (talk) 19:47, 13 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That looks good.   jj137 (talk) 21:38, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

UserPage4

I did not find your secret page, although I do intend to find it one of these days. I wanted to mention that on 4, there's a red link. I don't know if that was intentional or not. Enigma msg! 02:16, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, that works for me. BTW, nice sig. Burner0718 JibbaJabba! 19:54, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

I found your secret page!!! Oh, and here's an invite - can you join? DiligentTerrier and friends 20:04, 14 March 2008 (UTC) [reply]

I don't think it's a good idea to have the whole scouting thing on that page. I'm not trying to be mean, but it also probably isn't a good idea to have the "official head scout" thing as well. I suggest removing the section.   jj137 (talk) 03:11, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm... well, do we really even need that section? I think an invite has been given to just about every Sox fan at some point on here, and I don't think scouting is a major deal.   jj137 (talk) 03:26, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That is perfectly fine. As an answer to your question, well, they may have, but adminship "requirements" (not set in stone, but what people want) have risen over time. Right now, it looks like at the minimum around 4 months of active editing and at least somewhere from 3000-4000 edits.   jj137 (talk) 03:42, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You can keep scouting as much as you want, I just don't know if the thing on the main page is a good idea.   jj137 (talk) 03:51, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Aah, OK then. :-)   jj137 (talk) 03:59, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The "Aah, OK then" was to the userbox... I still don't think it is a good idea.   jj137 (talk) 04:14, 15 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Barnstar

Thanks for the barnstar. For WP:SOX, I think you can keep the general scouting section, but please clean it up some; if you want, I can go ahead and make the changes to show you how I think it should look.
