KOF merge
- I think a few of the character articles that have been merged could stand as their own articles. Mainly main character such as Kyo Kusanagi and Terry Bogard. Just a thought/suggestion. JuJube (talk) 19:34, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
- I agree; I kept Kyo, Terry, and a few others because of this. FightingStreet (talk) 19:36, 16 February 2008 (UTC)
If you're wondering why List of King of Fighters games exists, I split it off from the main article because it was making the main King of Fighters article too long. Other series that have just as many games as KoF have separate game lists, see List of Street Fighter games and List of Final Fantasy media. If you want to merge the article, I suggest discussing it first. NeoChaosX (talk, walk) 18:29, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Your rapid fire mergings ended up creating more mess than good. If you notice when you're editing a page a warning that the page is over 40kb or so, it's too large. As a result you ended up making a massive mess of things, and several redirects are going to need to be reworked, not to mention the inevitable loss of information that would come up as a result of the need for size reduction.
Now to explain my reasons blow by blow (btw, if you have a problem with edits I do take them to my talk page please, not TTN's...):
- Rugal: Series boss. Reappeared in more KoF games than any other boss character, as well as other related games (not excluding CvS). Iconic of "SNK boss syndrome".
- Iori Yagami: Rival of the protagonist, directly tied to the events behind most of the KoF's due to his bloodline and the whole Orochi deal.
- Andy Bogard: The brother not as important? While Andy takes a step back compared to Terry that's like shoving Ken's article on a page compared to Ryu. (Yes I know those two aren't siblings but you get my point). The one is just as significant as the other, and plays a role in the latter Mark of the Wolves game.
- Billy Kane: Geese's right hand man, played a role in the events of most of the games as well as MI. Plus keeps the Lilly Kane section combined with his, cutting down further on that behemoth page's size.
- Blue Mary: She's been in the Fatal Fury series for most games and significant in KoF seems awkward to just drop the hammer. Her article like everyone else's here could use a rewrite.
- Kim Kaphwan: Affects at least five characters directly in a major way, not counting Chae-Lim in MI.
- Wolfgang Krauser: Boss for several of the Fatal Fury games, direct villain in one of the animes related to the material, etc etc.
- Joe Higashi: Same reason as Blue Mary, additionally winner of CvS1 with Dan Hibiki. Has enough information if organized properly to warrant his own article more than enough.
- Mai: KoF's sexpot, character pretty well known as that over Angel or Shermie (see magazine articles related to subject). Appeared in a majority of the games and almost every KoF but XI.
- Ryo & Co.: Art of Fighting's equivalent of Terry with the exception of the last installment. Alongside Robert, Takuma/Mr. Karate, and Yuri, they're iconic of the series and been directly involved in the events of the games directly.
- List of KoF: MI characters: size reduction but also because MI happens in a separate continuity from regular KoF, much like SF2 and SFEX do. The characters and events are not tied to each other 100%, and a combination of those articles hints that pretty badly. I'd go further and re-separate the EX characters for the same reason: KoF EX was a separate stand-alone timeline too.
- Beyond this I'd go farther to state K' (NESTS saga major protagonist), Ash Crimson (major character of KoF's current arc), Chizuru & Maki (Merge into one article, significant to the Orochi factor of KoF) Heidern (involved majorly in the events of the series, if sometimes behind the scenes, affects quite a few characters directly), and Shingo (plays a significant effect in the chapters, as well as having enough info for his own article) should be separated again and rewritten. Really should push for a rewrite and actively help with one before jumping to the conclusion that a character is worthless and should get a footnote on a page.
- The Orochi line of related characters (Orochi, Goenitz, Chris, Shermie, Yashiro, Shion, Mukai, Magaki) should be separated into one page to further cut down on page size.
So where do we take it from here?--Kung Fu Man (talk) 22:18, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's a pretty good essay you wrote up here, but it mostly relies on in-universe parameters. Wikipedia must be written from an out-of-universe perspective. Have you read WP:FICT? FightingStreet (talk) 18:27, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Oh yes very much so. Have you considered the option of rewriting articles to be more reliable on non-storyline grounds and significance outside of such? That May Lee article is a decent enough start. I've managed to get a good enough balance for folks with Poison (Final Fight) and working on the same for other characters. So it's entirely possible without cramming a ton of info into one page that loads slowly enough.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 23:42, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

There have been several changes to the topic, you may want to check and see if it is now supportable or if you have more concerns. Thanks! :) Judgesurreal777 (talk) 21:33, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Sorry
Hey, sorry for stepping on your toes a little with Final Fantasy VII (Famicom). It's an unofficial port with less notability so I had to merge it and include information proportional to its notability. On the other hand, there is little reason why Crystal Tools should be merged with Square Enix, of all things. They don't share a similarity in the same way Final Fantasy VII (Famicom) and Final Fantasy VII do. Axem Titanium (talk) 22:43, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Merging without discussion? Yeah, like I'm going to let that fly Axem :P. Anyway I objected to the merge the guy above mentioned, and expanded your article, including a section pointing out the notability of the game's technological differences over several past NES games, some of which pushed the limits. Adding two more sites and another for reference had to have helped in there too. You should have enough, but the article needs expansion and more info, which I do understand will be a little scarce given info about the game has just recently come about. But I got your back for what it's worth. Also, as far as I can tell the actual title to the game is "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children", according to the cartridge despite having nothing to do with that film. Still, a title is a title.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 06:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. The game is correctly titled "Final Fantasy VII" on the title screen, but the "Advent Children" label on the cartridge is probably worth mentioning. FightingStreet (talk) 14:16, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

- I believe there was a quite heated discussion which ended in the article being moved back to its full name. I personally don't care either way, but you may run into some opposition in the matter. JuJube (talk) 21:20, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

Merge proposals to the List of Street Fighter characters
Since I'm a little more relaxed now, I'll speak with you on this. If you checked the talk page it is being designed to be intended as a "Featured List", meaning it isn't really an article but a list flat out, and the characters don't belong in there. I'm pretty sure that was the intention for the List of characters in The King of Fighters series before your mass mergings there too.
As it stands, the mass mergings end up disruptive and useless, and makes it difficult to handle each on a blow-by-blow account and resolve which articles can be kept separate and which could be just done away with. Generally in this case if the character has significantly appeared enough in other games besides the primary series (such as Yun and Yang or Hugo Andore), you should have enough to go into heavy detail on design and other aspects of a character. Even minor things like appearances in other media or things like action figures contribute to the pages. Long story short the articles could be better, the reason they aren't yet is because people just lack the amount of time (and in cases of finding some particular research material, money and/or translators) to get the whole thing fleshed out.
You'd be better off helping on that front than butting heads with other people regaring merging everything together, especially when you have a few voices speaking to the contrary and discussion is in order.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 16:51, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
GAN
Please remember that when you want to nominate something for GA-class, putting the nomination at Wikipedia:Good_article_nominations is the most important step. :) --PresN (talk) 17:06, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Scratch that, totally missed the nomination further down the page. Too used to only looking in the vgames section. PresN (talk) 17:11, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I should have put something in the edit summaries: Judgesurreal777 is actually the one who nominated FFVII AC, he put it at Wikipedia:Good article nominations but apparently forgot to put it on the FF and video game project pages, so I added them there. AfD nomination of Final Fantasy VII (Famicom)
An editor has nominated Final Fantasy VII (Famicom), an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Final Fantasy VII (Famicom) and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 00:59, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Garou: Mark of the Wolves
I didn't make up the thing about Blue Mary and Kevin Rian being distant relatives. Here's the Q&A corner of the now-defunct official site: http://web.archive.org/web/20010822125216/http://www.neogeo.co.jp/garou/sss/q_a/q_a.htm .I realize Mary's family name is spelled as "Ryan" (rather than "Rian") in her current Wikipedia article, but what's the source for this? Anyway, it's the same in Japanese (ライアン). 88.161.129.43 (talk) 12:29, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Allakhazam.com
Can you please explain why you are removing the reference to Allakhazam.com from all the MMO pages, particularly FFXI and EQ2? This is by far the most popular information site for these games and belongs in the references. For FFXI, the Allakhazam site is basically the official forum for the game. For EQ2, SOE does official chats and posts on Allakhazam all the time. I would understand not allowing it if wikipedia did not include references to other information sites, but most game entries include references to sites much smaller and less important than Allakhazam. Is this simply some personal vendetta? When I look back into the history, I notice I am not the first person to try to add this reference either. 69.142.98.195 (talk) 17:12, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
AfD etiquette
Hi, this is just a friendly note: try not to take it personally when an article you've contributed toward is nominated for deletion. I understand the frustration of having your work discarded, but remember that anything you contribute to Wikipedia is open information that anyone can edit or change in any given fashion. Articles that are poorly sourced or don't meet certain criteria or aren't informative may be nominated for deletion at any time. It's a good idea to argue against any of the points or claims brought up during the nomination, but not to attack the user arguing them. Thanks and good luck. 68.209.235.149 (talk) 22:26, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi, I saw that you've nominated three articles for FAC. The rules actually ask that you only nominate one article at a time. It can be a pretty time-intensive process (for you and the reviewers), and it's almost always easier if you only have one FA nomination at a time. I'd recommend leaving your strongest candidate out there and withdrawing the rest for now. Karanacs (talk) 18:47, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry, I didn't know about this. How do I withdraw a candidate? FightingStreet (talk) 18:53, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
That's a lot of work for me to catch up on; thanks for getting started, Karanacs. FightingStreet, to save me the work, can you please put a {{db-author}} on all the withdrawn FACs, and make sure you've removed the tags from the article talk pages. I'll check back in later to see if this is completed. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:14, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
StrategyWiki link
Hi there. I noticed you removed the link to the SF4 guide on StrategyWiki. Since the guide was just established, I wanted to put the link on WP to help make fans of the game aware of the guide's existence, and to provide a wiki where people can add information that is not technically appropriate for Wikipedia (such as move commands, etc.) It won't be long before new information is added to the guide, which should differentiate the two articles substantially. Already, the Characters page of the guide contains artwork not present in the WP article. Please leave the link in the External Link section, and I invite you to contribute information to the StrategyWiki guide if you come into possession of new facts. Thank you. Cid
Technically the statement before the anonymous changed it is correct. X-2 continues the story of X, in this sense, it is in the same game. If, say, the Cid from IV appeared again in VIII, which are of different universes and game series, that the statement given is wrong and should be changed. The point of the sentence is saying that the same Cid never appear twice. Using the example of Ivalice is also incorrect, as the Cids within Ivalice are also different characters. — Blue。 10:57, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Since nobody objected, went ahead and combined the Templates "SNK character" and "Capcom fighting character" into "SNK-Capcom character", given the large amount of shared infobetween the two anyway. Final Fantasy XI plot section
You know, I haven't found really any sources on what the plot of FFXI is. If you could help me make a 1-3 paragraph section, I would be deeply appreciative. Even the Vana'diel article doesn't have a cohesive plot section, I'm kind of at a loss. Judgesurreal777 (talk) 17:00, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

Rydia
I didn't have room in the edit summary, so I'll explain further. Rydia Chapter begins with a series of brief flashbacks starting a short time after FFIV, which shows Rydia living in the Human world and rebuilding Mist with the help of the others, and it also shows her at Ceodore's birth. It then shows the village chief telling a child that Rydia has gone on a trip to visit her "second hometown", and shows the Land of Summons, just before the Mysterious Maiden appeared. Rydia is "selfishly" visiting because she "wanted to see everyone", and goes to see Leviathan. Ashura almost immediately begins to berate Rydia for returning, as Ashura had told Rydia that she was "never to return to the Land of Summons", because "she's not an inhabitant of that world", and she needs to live with her own kind. Just as Leviathan begins to tell his wife to take it easy, he senses something, and the rest of the scene is exactly as it is in Ceodore chapter. Oh, and those profiles for the retuning characters are actually all translations of the ones found on the Japanese website, with no additional information added (yet).WtW-Suzaku (talk) 12:15, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
