I link to it on my own page, and, it is in a much different context than the city. -- The point is, content -can- be added... If it is removed as a reference (given that most indigenous historical figures have limited information and interest to begin with), then nobody will ATTEMPT to fill in any blanks. -- Does that make sense? I am returning it. -- I could add information; I just do not have the time to do so, presently. -- I am attempting to reserve the right to. :) Thanks. The question is one of independent notability. I don't know that the article would survive AfD as a standalone. I won't re-instate the re-direct but I think there are severe notability issues. What's your thought on that? I just re-factored the heading here to make it more clear. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 13:18, 16 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you're asking. I'm never really on Wikipedia, at least the editing side, as I don't have time, but I use it as a reference. -- I lived within a few miles of Tokeland, WA, actually, and, -I- am interesting in finding more information about the man, which was actually why I looked up the Wikipedia in the first place. -- He is a notable character, and there IS more information, it deserves to be there... I'm just not sure where or WHAT that information is, and, at this moment, I don't have the time to search for it. -- But, I'm hoping somebody else will, which is why THAT biography needs to be left up. /// I will put it back up, any time it is removed. -- Not to be a turd, but, just to make a point. And, as soon as I get time, I hope to be able to add information to it. Thanks! -x EclecticKoolAid (talk) 10:38, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Might want to consider reading this as doing things to make a point is not the best way to get something accomplished. I'll leave it for the moment but it's been tagged for notability so others may well decide to re-merge it as there's no evidence (what you or I 'know' is not in line with WP:V) of notability outside the redundant town info TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 23:15, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enjoy away

I dont think there is adequate cites at [1] even now - if you're not off packing what do you think? SatuSuro 03:35, 24 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

you just caught me. I agree there isn't enough at the moment and it's at risk of WP:UNDUE, but there appears to be some more available. I don't have time to fix it right now because I need to finish bpacking and I leave for the airport in ~5 hours, wish I could help. Suggest cleaning it up a bit if you can and if you have time, otherwise try to keep an eye on it in case it gets rapidly more into BLP territory. Sorry to bother you about this again, but you have yet to update your information at Highly Active Users. If you do not update your entry, it will be removed within 48 hours. Thanks. Useight (talk) 16:05, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not in regards to taking wikibreaks or anything, because that's just fine. HAU has a completely new format now, the whole thing was revamped. It now displays who is online and who isn't, uses a better looking table, links to e-mail, and contains entries on each editor's specialties (such as vandalism fighting, page protections, etc). Checkmarks are used to indicate these areas of expertise. Your entry, amongst a few others, does not yet have any checkmarks. If you could just make a quick stop at HAU and add checkmarks to the areas in which you have experience, it would make your entry there that much more helpful. Thanks. Date linking

WP:MOSUNLINKYEARS says (in part, with emphasis added):

Links to date elements that do not contain both a day number and a month are not required; for example, solitary months, solitary days of the week, solitary years, decades, centuries, and month and year combinations. Such links must not be used unless the reader needs to follow the link to understand the topic; see WP:CONTEXT.

I hope that helps. Regards, Ground Zero | t 22:49, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Early AFD

Yea, it was a clear snow, another day open wouldn't have made a difference. Thanks for the heads up. MBisanz talk 18:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AIV

Couldn't you have done this yourself? :) --barneca (talk) 01:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Technically, yes but I'm not 100% comfortable blocking yet. I'm not confident I won't make a wrong call. I'm giving myself another week of 'practice' before blocking a user. Glad to know I was "right" :) TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 01:36, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, OK, excellent plan. It's just that I know of at least two admins who, when they were new, were so used to reporting to AIV that they'd occasionally still do it thru force of habit. Congrats. --barneca (talk) 01:38, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I have never been a regular reporter to AIV because I don't do RC patrol or much New page patrol. I just thwap that which ends up on my watch list. Right now I've graduated to 'easy' CSDs - actually when I saw the new message alert I was worried it was someone questioning a decision I'd made. Whew! :) TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 01:47, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Death's Angel revisited

Hello. This seems to be about a Star Trek novel. I'd like to restore and expand. Cheers, Dlohcierekim 17:56, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Know what you mean. He created three of them like that, so I left some suggestions. Don't ko when i'll get back to it though. Cheers, and happy editing.

You just deleted the article Artist Karaoke Series: Miley Cyrus under G4, but I don't think the tag applies. The AfD mostly revolved around it not yet being released, and so being a violation of WP:CRYSTALBALL. However, the release date was on May 20, 2008 so it shouldn't have the same failings that caused the AfD on the previous version. If you decide that it still does make G4, could you please also delete the talk page? Cheers. --lifebaka (Talk - Contribs) 14:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It didn't look substantively different and had the same sourcing issues that were raised but I've restored it (witht he g4 in place) to let someone else make the call since you raised a valid question. At best, I think it will go back through AfD since it's not notable but I have no objection to that. Thanks for raising the question TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 14:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I was kinda' in the middle of editing it when you deleted it. It's at least a little better now. Cheers. --lifebaka (Talk - Contribs) 14:33, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to stay away from music discussions, WP:MUSIC can be a pain to deal with and there's so much passion involved. It frightens me somewhat. I won't take it to AfD, but I don't think there's any evidence the album meets WP:ALBUM but we'll see. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 15:04, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Student Newspaper AfDs

Hey, thanks for commenting on the AfDs I listed. Actually, I was curious if you know of any other previous AfDs/precedents for student publications and such. I am personally having issues with finding specific guidance on the subject as to what is necessary for notability. I'd appreciate anything you can point out. In general, I'd like to see almost every article in the category deleted for lack of independent notability, but if a good rationale exists for keeping them, I'd like to find it. Thanks! Cquan (after the beep...) 16:23, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know there was at least one other AfD but I can't find it. We really need a better search but I've found some here:
Like I said, there are more in the search if you want to dig but I think the only consensus/guideline is that there's absolutely no consensus. I agree with you in that in the vast majority of cases (Daily Free Press is a notable exception), they're of zero interest/notability off campus but I don't think there's a strong precedent. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 16:36, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So much for my hope of a clear cut situation:-P. Maybe one of these days I'll get motivated enough to start a proposal for a guideline on this...until then I guess I'll just see how these play out. Thanks! Cquan (after the beep...) 17:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah I can't say I'm passionate enough about the topic to want to start a proposal. We'll see what happens. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 18:46, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
the principle that I at least have been seeing is that the main general undergraduate newspaper of a major university or important independent college is notable. Beyond that, it varies. This is some acceptance of the newspapers of somewhat smaller schools. (In my view, "Spark" should have been kept. ) There is less acceptance of multiple newspapers from the same school, except for the most significant. Major literary & political magazines from major places are accepted, other magazines not usually. Radio and television stations are somewhat more difficult to establish--especially if their audience is confined to the campus--that was the rationale for deleting WFAL. DGG (talk) 03:02, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for that. I got bored after the first ~40 results but when I searched I was surprised at how many came up for AfD. I think it's very sumilar to the student union issue -- although those debating that blitz of student union articles were far more passionate than people have appeared to be in these cases. In some respects the newspaper is an organization, but yet WP:ORG doesn't really guide it much. I think some of it also ties into:
  • community connection. Some papers are read in the community apart from campus. That often results in more external coverage which easily provides notability.
  • major stories -- if a newspaper has been the center of/covered a major news story, that often gets covered by other entities.
It's when none of these have happened, when it's hard to find information on the publication that it's questionable. I think in the vast majority of cases, newspapers could be covered in the school article as a 'official voice of ' the school, but then that opens the door to 'well if newspaper is listed, what about Club X?" and it's a slippery slope. I think the Philippines ones are an interesting issue, especially the one where I noted the sourcing to Tripod. If any of that can be verified. it appears to have had a notable history from which to have an article. TravellingCarithe Busy Bee 04:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I got in over my head a bit on this...oh well. BTW, when is it appropriate to relist an AfD to get more attention, as in if there has been no substantial activity on it(and how do you do that)? Thanks. Cquan (after the beep...) 20:07, 31 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It does get re-listed after ~5 days if consensus hasn't been established. People will still comment. I don't think you got in over your head at all. I think there probably is good reason for trying to establish some consensus if you can get folks interested in a discussion. User:Fritzpoll did that on criminal acts and got a good discussion going. While it hasn't been confirmed as a guideline yet it has generated good discussion on the topic. If you're interested in taking that path, he'd be a good person to talk to.
