The anime and manga, One Piece, focuses around pirates searching for a legendary treasure left by Gold Roger. The main characters are the Straw Hat Pirates, lead by Monkey D. Luffy.

Buggy's Band of Pirates

  • Buggy the clown - Buggy is a pirate captain who Luffy encounters in the East Blue. Prior to the events of One Piece, he was a crew member on Gol D. Roger's ship, along with Red-hair Shanks. He has sworn revenge on Luffy for being humiliated, and pursues him through the Grand Line. During his time aboard Gol D. Roger's ship, he consumed the Bara Bara no Mi, a fictional Devil Fruit which gave him the power to separate his body into "slices". This also makes him immune to cutting attacks.
  • Alvida - Alvida is the first pirate Luffy encounters during the story of One Piece. In her first appearance she is extremely overweight and ugly, but through fear and intimidation forces her crew to call her the "most beautiful woman" sailing the seas. Prior to the events of the story, she captured Coby and forced him to join her crew as a cabin boy. She is defeated by Luffy, but teams up with Buggy in order to track him down. During her absence, she ate the Sube Sube no Mi, a Devil Fruit which makes her skin extremely smooth, to the point where attacks and projectiles slide off of her. The fruit had the added effect of making her slim and beautiful.
  • Mohji and Richie - The First Mate of Buggy's Band of Pirates, Mohji claims he can control any animal. His partner, the lion Richie, is the only animal he has shown any control over in the series. Mohji is fast and agile, and very skilled with a whip, going along with his lion tamer theme.
  • Cabaji - A crew member who combines sword-fighting with acrobatics, resulting in a strange style of combat. He rides a unicycle.

Black Cat pirates

  • Kuro - Captain of the crew. He is known as "Kuro of the Thousand Plans" for his elaborate plans that virtually never fail. According to series creator Eiichiro Oda, he is the second most intelligent person in the East Blue. Three years before the present storyline, Kuro grew tired of life as a pirate and constantly being hunted by the Marines. He hatched an elaborate scheme to have an impostor take his place and be executed. Taking up residence in Usopp's village, he began posing as Kaya's butler in order to get himself written into her will, intending to kill her afterwards and claim her fortune as his own. He is defeated by Luffy.
  • Jango - see below: Jango
  • Sham and Buchi - The lookouts of the Black Cat pirates, they are defeated by Roronoa Zoro.

Don Krieg's Pirate Armada

  • Don Krieg - Captain of the crew. He appears during the Straw Hat pirates visit to Baratie, the floating restaurant where Sanji works. Prior to events portrayed in the story, he made the journey to the Grand Line, but encountered the Shichibukai Dracule Mihawk, who promptly destroyed Krieg's fleet. Fleeing back to East Blue, Krieg makes the decision to steal Baratie and rebuild his forces. He is defeated by Luffy and carried away by his crewman Gin.
  • Gin - Don Krieg's First Mate, who leads Krieg and his crew to Baratie. Defeats his crewmate Pearl for almost killing Sanji, claiming only he has the right to kill the cook. He is gassed by Don Krieg in an attempt to kill Luffy, and disappears with the rest of the crew. His ultimate fate is unknown.
  • Pearl - Also known as Pearl the Iron Wall, noted to start panicking if he is stricken or injured directly, protecting himself by causing friction sparks to ignite his body with a defensive layer of flames. Defeated by Gin.

Arlong Pirates

  • Arlong - Captain of the Arlong Pirates, Arlong is a shark-type Fishman who holds humans in great contempt. Prior to the events of One Piece he was a member of the Shichibukai Jimbei's crew. Arlong left the crew when Jimbei became a Shichibukai and traveled to East Blue, to the island where Nami was being raised. Killing Bellemere, Nami's adopted mother, Arlong kidnaps Nami and makes her a member of his crew. Arlong is defeated by Luffy after a fierce battle, and is imprisoned by the Marines.
  • Choo - An Archerfish type Fishman. He is defeated by Usopp.
  • Kuroobi - A Ray type Fishman who battles and nearly defeats Sanji.
  • Hatchan - An Octopus type Fishman who is defeated by Roronoa Zoro. He escapes being captured by the Marines and journeys to the Grand Line, meeting the Mermaid Camie there. He opens a takoyaki stand that he operated with Camie and Papagg until being captured by the Flying Fish Riders. He is rescued by the Straw Hat pirates and accompanies them to Shabondie Archipelago, where he is shot and almost killed by the Tenryuubito Charlos.
  • Momoo - A giant Sea Cow brought by the Arlong Pirates from the Grand Line. Defeated by Luffy.

Wapol Pirates

  • Wapol - Captain of the Wapol pirates and King of Drum Island. He has eaten the Baku Baku no Mi Devil Fruit, allowing him to eat and assimilate anything. Fleeing Drum Island when the Blackbeard crew attacks, he later returns to reclaim his throne. He is defeated by Luffy and becomes a toy maker, using his Baku Baku abilities to create unique toys.
  • Chess - Wapol's head of staff, responsible for recording all the laws Wapol creates. He is a skilled archer, and uses these skills in battle.
  • Kuromarimo - The highest-ranking law officer below Wapol. He has a number of afros all over his body, and uses the two on his fists to fight.
  • Isshi 20 - The twenty most skilled doctors in the Drum Kingdom. Wapol forced all the doctors to work for him so the commoners of his kingdom would be forced to beg him for medical treatment.

The Saruyama Alliance

  • Montblanc Cricket - An inhabitant of Jaya Island, living in a small home behind the façade of a castle. Due to the story about his ancestor Montblanc Norland, he is looked down upon and has become bitter to the point that he hates his ancestor. To that end, he aims to prove that the city of gold existed by diving into the ocean day in, day out, searching for any proof of it. He is later joined by Masira and Shōjō, two fans of the fairy tale who would become his surrogate sons. The Straw Hat Pirates soon come to him for more information on the "Island in the Sky," and how to reach it. However, Bellamy the Hyena comes soon afterwards and steals all of Cricket's hard earned artefacts that he found in the ocean. Luffy gets them back, however, and Cricket, Masira, and Shōjō modify the Going Merry so it can travel in the sky.
  • Masira - Known as the "Salvage King", Masira is the head of a simian salvage operation near Jaya Island. He is also the brother to Shōjō and a surrogate son of Montblanc Cricket.
  • Shojo - Brother to Masira and a follower of Montblanc Cricket. After the Straw-Hats meet Cricket, he and Masira become friendly with them and help modify the Going Merry so it can travel to Skypiea. He claims to have never cut his hair, and because of this views himself worthy of taking Crocodile's place as a Shichibukai. He also has a habit of saying he's "edgy" whenever almost anything happens.

Bellamy Pirates

  • Bellamy - Captain of the crew, Bellamy's character is one that is arrogant, violent and vain, but significantly humbled when facing more powerful foes, as he revealed to Doflamingo that he only engages in fights that he knows he can win. He is defeated by Luffy after stealing Montblanc Cricket's gold. He is later apparently killed by his crewman Sarquiss, who is being controlled by Shichibukai Donquixote DoFlamingo. Bellamy is named after the historical pirate Samuel Bellamy, who sailed the seas in the early 1700s.[1]
  • Sarquiss - The First Mate of the Bellamy Pirates, nicknamed Big Knife. He stabs Bellamy while being controlled by DoFlamingo.

Blackbeard pirates

  • Marshall D. Teach

see below: Blackbeard

  • Jesus Burgess - Wears a mask similar to a Luchador. He is extremely strong, lifting an entire building during a battle with Portgas D. Ace. He is portrayed as being quite level-minded and serious, as he berates Blackbeard for his easy-going attitude after the crew's failure to capture Monkey D. Luffy. Jesus shares his surname with real pirate Samuel Burgess.
  • Van Auger - Nicknamed The Supersonic, he is first seen in Jaya, shooting down seagulls from a distance so far that the Straw Hat Pirates, who were watching near the area where the seagulls fell, couldn't even see the island he was on. Van Auger appears calm and analytic even during battle. Van Auger shares his name with real pirate John Auger.
  • Doc Q - The crew's doctor, nicknamed Shinigami Japanese for "God of Death". He first appears when the Straw Hat Pirates disembark at Mock Town, offering explosive apples to pirates. He rides a horse, Stronger.
  • Lafitte - First appearing during a meeting of the Shichibukai and the Navy to determine Sir Crocodile's replacement in order to recommend his captain, he is described by Tsuru as once being a well respected policeman in West Blue who became a pirate after being exiled for using excessive violence. He is incredibly pale, though this appears to be makeup, and is usually tap-dancing, even when walking or running. He shares his name with Jean Lafitte, a famous real-life pirate.
