Shiney Ahuja is an Indian actor, who won Filmfare Best Debut Award for Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi in 2006.

Early life and education

Shiney Ahuja is a relative of Poonam Dhillon and was born on May 15 1973 in New Delhi. His early schooling was from St. Xavier's School, Ranchi, thereafter he studied at The Army Public School, Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi.

Joining the armed forces was his ambition, but then he got attracted to Theater and he joined Barry Johns acting School in Delhi, while studying at Hans Raj College, University of Delhi, before moving to Mumbai...

Career

Before making his debut in films Shiney did modelling and some commercial adverts. He then appeared in a music video for the British Asian band Stereo Nation.

Ahuja made his acting debut with the critically acclaimed Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi which debuted at various film festivals in 2004 and was released in theatres in 2005. The film won Shiney Ahuja rave reviews and was viewed as one of the best films of that year. In 2006 Ahuja was awarded Best male debut by Filmfare Awards, Screen Awards, IIFA Awards, Zee Cine Awards and Stardust Awards for his performance. He however grew more familiar with mainstream audiences with Karam (2005), where he starred alongside John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.

He then became popular with his title role in Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster (2006) which was both a critical and commercial success for which he was awarded best actor by stardust in 2007. He also received the Society Young Achiever's Award in 2007 for the same.

His next release in 2006 was Woh Lamhe which was critically acclaimed and did well at the box office. The film was based on the real-life story on the romance between Bollywood director Mahesh Bhatt and the late actress Parveen Babi, the 1970s glamour girl. His third release Zindaggi Rocks failed to do well at the box office. His first 2007 film Life In A... Metro opposite Shilpa Shetty picked up after a slow start and became a box office hit. His recent releases were Bhool Bhulaiya which has been very successful at the box office and Khoya Khoya Chand for which he received the Kalakar award for 'Best actor in 2008'. [1]

Personal life

He is married to Anupam Ahuja (née Pandey), from Delhi, of Bihari descent,who is currently in America .They have a daughter together, born in 2007. On June 15th, 2009, he was accused of raping one of his own maids. He was taken to police custody for further questioning. His maid claimed that he forced her into having sex with him. However, he says otherwise, saying that she consented to it. The maid is still being medically examined. However, the police is taking the version of the victim. Reportedly, Shiney has admitted to rape. "There was no consent in the sex," said Assistant Commissioner of Police Dilip Suryavanshi. "It was forceful. Shiney threatened her that if she shouts, he will beat her up. He has admitted his guilt." The actor, the police claim, confessed and broke down during interrogation.[2]
