The Anti-Vandalism Barnstar
This is for all your hard work in just the past week, kicking out the most annoying sockpuppet ever to ruin a Disney article! Your diligence has definitely made it a lot easier for the rest of us to actually do some editing. Cheers, and keep up the good work! Cactusjump (talk)

Hey I just started the article, why dont you just hold on a second. When I get done it will have quite a lot of information, that is both useful and helpful

== Thanks, that is helpful, I was just getting the documetns to upload

Another one bites the dust! Heh heh Cactusjump (talk) 16:39, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh, the aggrevation is back again and managed to con another good editor into doing edits for him! User:Ice Age lover and User:207.201.216.12 are the socks. I've sent to AIV and I think I got the latest round of stuff cleaned up. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 00:34, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I see that you have semi-protected or protected a lot of articles. I don't know the history behind this Bambifan101 sockpuppet master so I won't tell you what to do, but I'm wondering, is it really necessary to FULLY protect some of those articles until December 2009? Gary King (talk) 04:31, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He's been at this for over a year, using IP and named socked including ranges no one will range block because of collateral damage. 120+ confirmed socks, and another 109 highly likely just not tagged confirmed (mostly the IPs) Semi-protecting his targets has been the only thing that had any effect in slowing his efforts (and now he's taken to trying to trick established editors into doing edits for him or getting them to make unprotection requests). See Wikipedia:Long term abuse#Bambifan101 for a longer summary. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 04:35, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm talking about FULLY protected articles. Us regulars can't edit them, only admins can. Gary King (talk) 04:38, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You issued full protection on several articles, including Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders, Garfield's Fun Fest, Kung Fu Panda, The Penguins of Madagascar, and dozens more. Gary King (talk) 05:49, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I assure you that I cannot edit them. Gary King (talk) 05:56, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure it's not a software bug. If you check your contributions, you can find the articles that you marked as fully protected by searching for the string "edit=sysop". Gary King (talk) 05:59, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(Chiming in) I agree that the ones mentioned by Gary King above are all fully-protected. If I, as an admin, click "edit" on Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders, I get the usual text: "WARNING: This page has been protected so that only administrators can edit it. Please ensure that you are following the protection policy." I get the log entry "02:29, 29 June 2009 PMDrive1061 (talk | contribs | block) protected Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders [edit=sysop] (expires 02:29, 29 December 2009 (UTC)) [move=sysop] (expires 02:29, 29 December 2009 (UTC)) ‎ (Excessive vandalism: Bambifan101 target) (hist | change)" (emphasis added), and I get the pink background to the editing box indicating a fully-protected page. BencherliteTalk 06:04, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have a particular article that I'd like to get unprotected at the moment, no. I just noticed that one of the articles I was watching was fully protected, which I found extremely odd considering it gets one or two edits a month on average. I can wait until you are able to drop the fully protected articles down to semi-protection. There are roughly 40 pages that you have fully protected recently. Gary King (talk) 06:06, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Vandalism will always be a threat. I don't really see how placing dozens or even hundreds of articles under semi-protection will solve anything, since persistent vandals, like how you described this one in particular, will always find an unprotected article to vandalize if they feel like it. • scream* its bad enough dealing with that idiot kid and his socks, but now another sockpuppetter is being a pain in the ass and encouraging OckhamTheFox's continued proxy editing. I've posted at ANI and there is an open SPI, but this is getting so annoying. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 18:51, 25 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The protection on The Fox and the Hound appears to have expired, and it was hit again almost immediately. Looks like he may have a new IP range and is quick hopping between IPs. Guess he went traveling again...ugh. -- Collectonian (talk · contribs) 23:21, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Earlier today I closed an Mfd (Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Allsterecho talk redirects) that I had voted in. Usually you shouldn't do this, however, the result was "speedy delete" and was carried out by Graeme Bartlett. Obviously, as I am not an admin, I didn't delete it myself. I only closed it because Graeme seemed to have forgotten. Do you think this will come back to bite me later on? -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 04:09, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, okay, thanks. :) As to Bambifan, I appreciate the accolades, but I'm not sure that I did anything to deserve them. Maybe it was Collectian? Or perhaps I did and forgot, as this has happened in the past. Either way, I appreciate it. :) -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 04:13, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, perhaps I was. Today has been crazy and I've been all over the place, so I probably just don't remember. I've had the privilege of running into several of his socks, and must agree with you, that I do pity him, as he's more sad than anything else. Haven't seen you around lately but hope to see you more active in the future as you are quite an asset to this site. Cheers! -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 04:23, 29 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

THANK YOU. That little guy was the most annoying vandal I've had to deal with in quite a while. I am so incredibly pleased to see him blocked. :) -T'Shael,The Vulcan Overlord 16:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC 00:08, 30 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

XOP Networks Page Deletion

The recently created wikipedia page for XOP Networks was subject to speedy deletion. I justified the existence of the page by saying it was not created for promotion or vandalism. Please let me know if it is safe to begin editing the page under this new user name which more clearly identifies me as an individual, not a company associate. (I am not employed by XOP Networks, nor do I have any intention of promoting their products.) I simply wanted to begin their encyclopedia page so that others may learn about the company's history, founding, and miscellaneous facts. Again, I just want to know if I can safely make edits to this page under my new user name.

Thanks, Chirag Gupta

Roses and Blooms deletion

Hey I was just working on creating a wikipedia page for Roses and Blooms and you deleted it within seconds. The page being created is unbiased and is simply giving information about a store that has been a center of its area for years. It seems very unfair to just delete this immediately, it seems very unlikely that it was given the proper time and reading. If there are any specific reasons it was deleted, let me know, but I can not see any.

Wikipedia is not a space for free advertising. It is rare that there is ever a good reason for including a small business. If you want to advertise on a wiki format, then please use one of the many business wiki sites. 89.125.12.127 (talk) 17:54, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Something to try since nothing else works

You probably know more than anyone about your friend on here and I do know about the autism but I wonder if Reverse psychology would help. I came up with the idea when I read your comment to this account telling him to go away but saw that less that only many hours ago he came back with more accounts. As you know, this is Derek's sixth year on Wikipedia (he must be one of Wikipedia's oldest threats) and every time someone tries to get rid of him, he keeps coming back.

Yes, he is autistic and yes, nothing else has worked but maybe next time if you encourage him to stay he will choose otherwise and decide to quit what he is doing. It's just an idea and I don't know how good it would be but wouldn't it be good to try just about anything to make him miss out upon reaching his 5th Wikibirthday next month? --The LegendarySky Attacker 00:25, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most people probably don't care, that is true, but I care. I've actually run into a few of his "Greatest Chases" accounts myself when working on articles and I have reached a desire to get rid of him as soon as possible. I'm not an admin so I can't tag and bag myself and I didn't start editing Wikipedia until 2008, so I haven't been around for the most part of his history on here but if there is anything that I could possibly do to help out, I'd be glad to do it. Let's do whatever we can to make MascotGuy an identity of the past.--The LegendarySky Attacker 00:55, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you've been to Fashion Valley, San Diego do you live in the area? Because if so, you could try to meet him and his family in person. Wikipedia also has access to his mother's email adress. Perhaps another conversation with her would be useful.--The LegendarySky Attacker 01:17, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys

Updated DYK query On August 23, 2009, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Cecily G. and the Nine Monkeys, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits your article got while on the front page (here's how) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Can you restore article.

You just deleted an article on Icy Moral. She does seem to have some notability and I was trying to wikify the article and fix the references. A more approprite venue would be prod or afd as it claims notability, which is all it has to in order to pass csd. ThanksHell In A Bucket (talk) 15:12, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A great find. I just hope they keep it on youtube for awhile. They don't make ads like that anymore. Another one that comes to mind is the two-minute ad for Texaco, with the choral group singing all about how "You can trust your car to the man who wears the star..." Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 06:40, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember all the video, of course, but some of the scenes look familiar. Curiously, the sound seems to be "sped up", yet it's supposedly 2 minutes. I didn't put a stop watch to it, though. The Texaco song I referred to is apparently not on youtube, but it's on a CD called "TV Toons - The Commercials" or some such. That was a time when ads were real productions and not just bang-bang clips and noise. Consider this one-minute ad for McDonald's (which is already in the article), one of the most significant ads ever, the one that really put McDonald's on the map and left everyone else in the dust: [1] See if you can pick out the late Johnny Haymer among the crew. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 06:58, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, if you're talking "productions", here's a literal production number, created by Stan Freberg and starring Ann Miller. The guy looks familiar but I can't place him. [2] I'm not sure the actual product, the soup, is made any more. C'est la vie. Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots 07:13, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IP blocks

Hi, thanks for taking care of the abuse filter blocks like this one. Just a small note: you might want to consider shorter blocks in this case, it's a large internet provider with highly volatile dynamic IP ranges, so a long block will have no more effect than a shortish one (48-hrs or so). Question about jingle punks page

Hey PMDrive 1061,

I was just notified that you deleted the page I just created for my company Jingle Punks. I would like to know what I did wrong and how I can re-create the page without it being considered a promotion... We are an up-and-coming small business that is going to be growing a lot in the very near future. I have several articles and such to add as sources. We are not doing this for promotional purposes. (It is my first Wiki page ;) )

Any suggestions? We really want to a page, we are even mentioned in other people's wiki pages... (anthony martini for example)

Thanks

BD surf and skate

This company does not even exist yet, it is not even starting to be developed. In fact I am 14 and my best friends and I want to start this surf and skate shop when we move out so how could this even possibly be an advertisement, you can research it yourself and you will find nothing on except for maybe a freak coincidence. So next time why don't research past an opinion before you delete somebodies article.
