True Blood is an American television drama series created by Alan Ball and based on the The Southern Vampire Mysteries (also known as The Sookie Stackhouse novels) by Charlaine Harris.

The series revolves around Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress living in the rural town of Bon Temps, Louisiana two years after the invention of a synthetic blood called TruBlood that has allowed vampires to "come out of the coffin" and allow their presence to be known to mankind. Now they are struggling for equal rights and assimilation, while anti-vampire organizations begin to gain power. Sookie's world is turned upside down when she falls in love with 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and for the first time must navigate the trials, tribulations and terrors of intimacy and relationships. Also a key component of the series are Tara Thornton (Rutina Wesley), Sookie's tough-talking best friend, her womanizing brother Jason (Ryan Kwanten) and her shape-shifting boss Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell). True Blood follows a serialized format, with every episode ending on a cliffhanger that leads directly into the next. Episode titles are taken from the name of a song that appears on the soundtrack of that episode.

As of August 14, 2024, 22 original episodes of True Blood have aired.

The shocking and brutal murder of Miss Jeanette – Tara’s fake exorcist – has the entire town of Bon Temps reeling, and Tara is reluctant to tell the police she knew the deceased for fear that her ex-alcoholic mother will find out about Miss Jeanette’s deception and relapse. She eventually comes forward and is interrogated and her worst fears are realized when her mother, Lettie Mae, shows up at the police station and is told everything. Tara is eventually released and Maryann has some harsh words for Lettie Mae when she arrives to give Tara a ride. Meanwhile, Lafayette has been kidnapped and is being held with others – including Royce, one of the rednecks who earlier burned three vampires to death – in a basement somewhere. Sookie and Bill’s relationship is put to the test with Bill’s newly made vampire charge Jessica’s impatient ways, even when Sookie attempts to bond with her. Jason impresses Steve and Sarah Newlin, the leaders of the Fellowship of the Sun anti-vampire church, at a luncheon and he is offered a place at a leadership retreat, where he will learn to serve God. Sam is troubled by the presence of Maryann and reminisces about their sexual encounter when he was seventeen and stole one hundred thousand dollars from her. He also takes on another young waitress, Daphne. Tara becomes closer with Eggs, Sookie and Bill are put on even rockier ground when she discovers that he murdered her sexually abusive Uncle Bartlett. He tells her that he did it because he loves her too much to let him get away with what he did to her. Sookie forgives him and the two passionately make love. It is revealed that Eric is the one keeping Lafayette captive and the episode ends with Royce trying to escape and Eric feeding on and killing him, spraying Lafayette with blood.

After making up with Bill, Sookie suggests that he take it a little easier on Jessica as she is just a teenager. Bill tries to convince Sookie that a vampire as new as she is not capable of controlling her impulses and that she could be dangerous. En route to the Light of Day Leadership conference Jason becomes fast-friends with an anti-vampire zealot named Luke, but after Jason makes a good impression on Steve Newlin, and Sarah Newlin in particular, Luke’s good natured friendship turns to bitter jealousy and he tells Jason that he doesn’t belong there. Eric approaches Bill and demands that he and Sookie help in finding a vampire sherrif named Godric, who has gone missing in Dallas. Meanwhile, Tara finds out more about Eggs' past as a criminal and he makes it clear that he is interested in her. After a failed attempt to escape from the basement of Fangtasia, Lafayette is badly injured and asks Eric, Pam and Chow to turn him into a vampire. Fangs bared, they ferociously bite him. Jessica realizes she misses her family after her parents, who think she has just gone missing, appear on TV. She asks Sookie to take her to see her family and Sookie agrees, on the condition that Jessica stay in the car. Although she agrees, Jessica eventually ignores Sookie and drops in on her old family. When her father comes home, he angrily accuses her of putting the family through hell, and even though Sookie tries to stop her, Jessica attacks her father and threatens to kill him for all the times he beat her. But Bill shows up and glamours his way into the house just in time. The episode ends on an ominous note, with Bill throwing Sookie out of the house barking at her that he has to "clean up her mess".

After glamouring Jessica’s family and beginning the drive back to Bon Temps, Bill and Sookie argue fiercely about the night’s events and Sookie storms out of the car. As she walks off, she is viciously attacked and poisoned by a mysterious creature with the head of a bull and the body of a man. Bill rushes to Eric for help and with the assistance of a goblin woman named Dr. Ludwig, Sookie is saved. At the Light of Day camp, Jason confesses his true feelings about vampires and bonds further with Sarah Newlin when he lets out some of his grief over his Gran and Amy’s deaths. She reveals to him that she used to be a vampire sympathizer but now suspects they murdered her sister. At Merlotte’s, Jessica and Hoyt take a special interest in one another, Sam warns Tara to stay away from Maryann and later, after snapping at Daphne, decides to take off for a while. At Fangtasia, Sookie takes Bill’s blood to heal and then discovers that Lafayette has been held in the basement. She manages to arrange his freedom in exchange for helping locate the missing vampire Godric in Dallas. Tara and Eggs' relationship hits a rough patch at one of Maryann’s parties when the guests become strangely sexual with one another, including Eggs and another girl. Lafayette returns home and cries, Bill and Sookie walk in on Jessica and Hoyt making out and Sam and Daphne make peace with one another. The episode ends with the revelation that Daphne appears to have been attacked by the same creature that poisoned Sookie.

Bill throws Hoyt out of his house, much to Jessica’s dismay. She storms off and Sookie suggests that it would be a good idea for Jessica to accompany them to Dallas. Bill reluctantly agrees. Tara agrees to move into Sookie’s house and although Maryann appears supportive and happy for her, she is secretly not pleased. Jason becomes the victim of a cruel practical joke at orchestrated by the increasingly jealous Luke at the Light of Day Institute. But Jason winds up having the last laugh when he is invited to move out of the dorms and stay with the Newlins in their lavish mansion. While there, the attraction between Sarah and Jason becomes more intense and Steve offers him a position in the Soldiers of the Sun – Steve’s “elite spiritual army.” It is revealed that Miss Jeanette, the woman found in Andy Bellefleur’s car, was murdered by the same creature that attacked Sookie. After leaving her friendship with Sam on shaky turf, Sookie arrives in Dallas with Bill and Jessica. A limousine driver attempts to abduct her, but Bill manages to prevent the kidnapping and learns, after glamoring Sookie’s would-be abductor, that he was acting on orders from the Fellowship of the Sun, though he does not know who specifically hired him. Meanwhile Lafayette, still shaken and injured from his harrowing ordeal in the Fangtasia basement, is paid a visit by Eric, who offers Lafayette some of his blood to heal. Although he is suspicious that Eric simply wants to be able to keep track of him, Lafayette is compelled to take Eric’s blood to heal an infection developing in his wounds. Sookie, Bill and Jessica arrive at the lavish Hotel Camilla, a hotel that caters specifically to vampires. Back in Bon Temps, Tara is spending her birthday alone until Maryann shows up with Eggs to throw her a surprise party and soon things are in full swing. Sam shows up with a gift to Tara from her mother and connects with Daphne, who reveals to Sam that she “knows what he is”. Maryann throws Lettie Mae’s gift for Tara away. As the party grows more and more wild, Maryann moves off on her own and performs an incantation which suddenly causes the winds to stir and her body to vibrate, which seems to somehow fill the entire party with an intense sexual energy, just like at her other party. Maryann’s ritual culminates with her arms transforming into the same hideous clawed talons seen on the bull-headed beast and with Tara and Eggs having sex. At the Camilla Hotel, Bill and Eric meet and discuss the missing vampire sheriff Godric. Eric is concerned that if humans can capture a vampire as old and as powerful as Godric , then no one is truly safe. Sookie is stunned when she encounters a bellhop named Barry, who is also able to read minds.

Tara’s birthday party is still in full swing as Sam follows Daphne out into the woods, where she reveals to him that she is a shapeshifter too. They start to make out, but are interrupted by Terry and Arlene and Daphne wanders off. In Dallas, Sookie chases Barry and he tells her that if any of the Dallas vampires find out about his abilities, it would mean serious trouble for both of them. After Bill repremands her for ordering a young man off of the Camilla Hotel menu, Jessica calls Hoyt and the two share a conversation about comic books. At the Light of Day Institute, Jason and the others are put through an intensive training course by Sarah and a very demanding drill instructor. When Luke has trouble completing one of the exercises, Jason helps him out and is commended for being a real soldier of God. Meanwhile, Sookie tries to connect with Barry one more time and learns that he is ashamed of his abilities and cannot control his telepathy the way she can. Even though she offers to teach him, Barry tells her to leave him alone. Maryann continues to stir up trouble in Bon Temps after trying to move into Sookie’s house with Tara, who rebuffs her. She casts her spell upon the patrons of Merlotte’s, turning them all against Tara and making her feel isolated and alone. Eventually, Tara invites Maryann to live at Sookie’s house with her. In Dallas, the Louisiana gang come a step closer to solving the mystery of Godric’s disappearence when Sookie offers to infiltrate the Fellowship of the Sun by posing as a convert in order to see if they are the ones holding Godric. Bill disapproves of the plan and, after asking Eric why he is so invested in fiding Godric, Eric reveals that centuries ago Godric saved him from death by turning him into a vampire and becoming Eric’s maker. Steve Newlin shows Jason the seriousness of their mission in the form of a bunker full of serious weapons. After walking in on Steve and Sarah having a fight, Sarah “rewards” him for his hard work by jerking him off in the bath. Lafayette is given his job back as the Merlotte’s cook, Sam and Daphne have sex and Sookie is sad to learn that Barry has quit his job and Bill tries to comfort her. As they start to make love, a woman appears in the hallway outside their room. It is Bill’s maker, Lorena.

Godric’s minion, Isabel, drops in on Bill and Sookie with her human boyfriend, Hugo. He and Sookie prepare to infiltrate the Fellowship of the Sun. Eric, meanwhile, has summoned Lorena to the hotel in order to drive Bill and Sookie apart and, while there, Lorena ruminates on her and Bill’s violent past together. Sam and Daphne continue to grow closer, both physically and emotionally. During one of Maryann's errands, Eggs senses something familiar about the environment, and leads the two of them to a remote spot in the woods. The two suspect that something bad has happened there. Hoyt tells his mother that his girlfriend is a vampire. Andy interrogates Lafayette about his disappearance and threatens to lock him up. Lafayette then has horrible Post Traumatic Stress Disorder memories of being locked up and collapses into a ball. He is comforted by Andy’s cousin Terry. Luke and Jason are summoned to the Fellowship Church to build a crucifix platform for a ceremony called “meet the sun”, in which a vampire will be tied to the cross just before dawn and left to burn in the sun. While talking with Luke, Jason somewhat hesitantly decides to practice abstinence. Sookie and Hugo are greeted at the church by Sarah, who introduces them to Steve; it doesn’t take Sookie long to find out that the Newlins have a vampire locked in the basement. After meeting Gabe, the drill instructor, Sookie reads Steve’s thoughts and finds out that someone has tipped off the Fellowship about their mission; both Sookie and Hugo are captured and dragged into the basement, with a teary-eyed Sarah watching on helplessly. Pam visits Lafayette and orders him to start dealing V-juice again. Sam and Daphne go on a shape-shifting run together, with Daphne shifting into a pig. They are chased by Andy, who thinks he recognizes the pig from one of Maryann’s parties. Lorena drops in on Bill who tries to resist her, sensing Sookie is in grave danger, but Lorena, also knowing that Sookie is in danger, overpowers him. Hoyt drives all the way to Dallas to visit Jessica. Tara and Eggs return to Sookie’s house, where they follow a trail of clothes to find some of the townspeople taking part in an orgy. At the church, Sarah turns to Jason for help, saying that they were meant to be together. Jason tries to resist, but she convinces him that it's God's will and they end up having sex on the balcony. Daphne tries to lead Sam towards the orgy, but he is hesitant about the drum music. Two people jump out of the woods and grab Sam, dragging him to the orgy, where he sees the ritual (which now includes Tara and Eggs, also in trance-induced sex) taking place. Daphne helps Maryann into a bull’s head mask and Carl approaches with a sacrificial knife. Sam lets out a blood-curdling scream for help that ends the episode.

Still drunk, Andy chases the pig through the woods and stumbles upon Maryann’s orgy. He fires his pistol, partially breaking the trance Maryann has induced, giving Sam the opportunity to escape. Andy breaks up the orgy and his arm is broken by Terry, who is still under Maryann’s influence. In the basement of the L.O.D.I, Sookie realizes someone must have tipped off the Fellowship about their mission. While at the hotel, Lorena will still not allow Bill to go to Sookie’s rescue. Flashbacks show Bill tired of killing innocents, and he asks to be released from Lorena. She reluctantly complies after he threatens to stake himself. Outside the church, Eric asks Isabel what she likes about being with a human. She says it is because their mortality makes everything exciting, but it is a sort of "science experiment" to see Hugo age. Isabel accuses Eric of coveting Sookie, which he denies. Jason convinces Sarah not to tell her husband about their affair and she agrees to wait. Hoyt and Jessica decide to be each other’s first time. Stan confronts Eric about not dealing with the Fellowship more directly, and Eric accuses him of murdering Godric to claim his place as Sheriff. The next morning, Tara and Eggs wake up on Sookie’s couch and neither can remember how they got there. As Steve and Gabe interrogate Sookie, a claustrophobic Hugo desperately reveals that her last name is Stackhouse. Deciding that Jason must be a vampire sympathizer, Steve tells Gabe to take care of it, but Jason manages to overpower him. Later, Sookie reads a weakend Hugo's mind and discovers he is the traitor. Sam confronts Daphne and she explains to him that Maryann is a Maenad, an immortal creature from ancient Greece that is a follower of Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and revelry. They have immense power and Daphne likens her to both God and Satan. Church goers arrive at the Light of Day church for a “lock in”. Arlene admits that she blacked out too, which causes Tara to become suspicious of Maryann. Andy tries to confront Terry at Merlotte's, raving about "devil-worshipers" and "devil-zombies" who turned Bon Temps into an "orgy from hell", but Sam is the only one who knows he is telling the truth. At the hotel Hoyt and Jessica consummate their love. As Jason is fleeing the L.O.D.I through the woods, Sarah shows up and shoots him with an unknown weapon. At the stream, Maryann thanks Daphne for her services, then makes Eggs kill her. Sookie reaches out to Barry telepathically and he shows up at the hotel with her message. Eric overhears and races for the church. Gabe bursts into the basement, beats up Hugo and attempts to rape Sookie, but at the last second he is pulled off by none other than Godric.

Gabe pleads for his life before Godric breaks his neck. Eric arrives immediately after and an alarm sounds through the church compound. Godric orders Eric to save himself and Sookie, while avoiding human casualties. Jason has an exchange with Sarah after being shot with a paint gun (twice). Sarah tells Jason that they're holding his sister, and insults her, Jason flies into a rage and disarms Sarah, then drives back to the Church compound to help Sookie. Back at the Church, Eric attempts an act to get himself and Sookie past the gate guards, but their escape is blocked by a lynch mob headed by pastor Steve. Eric decides to give himself up to Steve in hopes of saving Sookie and Godric. At the Dallas Carmilla hotel, while Lorena is feeding on telepath Barry, Bill uses the opportunity to incapacitate her and escape. He busts in on Jessica and Hoyt mid-coitus and orders them back to Bon Temps. Eggs arrives at Merlotte's in distress looking for Tara - he's experienced memory loss again. Jason arrives back at the Church compound and lies his way in. Sam is woken in his car by a call from Merlotte's; heading over there he finds Daphne dead with her heart torn out. Before he can act, the police arrive at Merlotte's. At Sookie's house, Maryann prepares a meal of a human heart. Eric, lying bound by silver, lays on an altar, but Bill and Jason appear to save the day. Steve attempts to take Sookie hostage, but Jason shoots the weapon out of his hand. The Dallas vampires appear soon after and prepare to feed on the L.O.D. mob, but Godric stops the bloodshed. He pardons the humans, to the disappointment of his vampires. Jason reveals to Steve that he had sex with Sarah, and knocks him down with a hit. The sheriff and his deputy question Sam back at Merlotte's; he fails to convince them of his innocence, even with Andy corroborating his story. At Sookie's house, Maryann serves the souffle she prepared containing the heart to Tara and Eggs, who are delighted by the taste and begin scarfing it down. At Godric's nest, Godric thanks Jason, and Eric pardons his previous use of V. Meanwhile, Sookie is trying to find out why Bill did not come to her rescue when he first knew she was in trouble. Back in Bon Temps, Jessica and Hoyt make love again, but they realize that Jessica's hymen has healed, and that she will remain a virgin forever. Back at the Dallas nest, Bill demands Eric leave Sookie alone from now on, and the human Hugo, Isabel's lover is presented as the traitor to Godric. Finding that Isabel still loves Hugo, Godric spares his life and exiles him from Dallas. Sam sits in jail, and finds out that half the town has been arrested for various types of indecent behavior. In Dallas Jason takes the opportunity to apologize to Bill for his previous bigotry towards him. Privately, Godric shares his dismay with Eric at the cruel, brutish character of the vampire race, and wishes for a world that humans and vampires might share equally. Back at Sookie's house, after gorging themselves on the heart, Eggs and Tara suddenly turn violent, first smacking then hitting each other harder and harder until they fly into an animal passion. In Dallas an unidentified figure approaches Godric's nest. Lorena appears at the nest also, and harasses Sookie, who discovers it was Lorena that kept Bill from saving her. Lorena turns violent, but Godric stops her from harming Sookie. He makes a speech in which he uses Lorena as an example of the kind of vampire who has no future in this new world. Godric orders Bill to take Lorena from the nest; outside, Lorena pleads her love to Bill, who rejects her. At the party, a mysterious intruder is revealed to be Luke, who calls for the attention of those gathered and opens his jacket to reveal a suicide bomb wrapped in silver chains. He pushes the detonator.

Eric, who was wounded in the explosion protecting Sookie, convinces her that he cannot heal himself with silver bullets lodged in his body. Sookie sucks out the bullets, ingesting some of his blood. Bill later reveals that Eric will now be capable of sensing her feelings, and that she may begin to become attracted to Eric sexually stating that "[Eric] was determined to make this bond with you." Back in Bon Temps, Hoyt tells Jessica that he wants her to meet his mother. A badly-bruised Tara and Eggs awake to Maryann, and discuss blacking out again the night before. Maryann waxes poetic about the importance of losing control and the necessity for chaos which allows them to "unite with their god". Back in Dallas, Sookie heads to Jason's room where, flipping through channels, they find the Reverend Newlin and Mrs. Newlin on television, bickering with Nan Flanagan (apparent leader of the American Vampire League), and the Newlins reveal that Godric volunteered himself to be taken by the Fellowship of the Sun at the L.O.D.I. Sookie and Jason then reflect on their recent adventure, and end up bonding over being the only remaining members of their family. Eggs and Tara later go to Merlotte's, and Lafayette accuses Eggs of being the cause of Tara's bruises. A physical fight begins between Lafayette and Eggs before Tara breaks it up. Hoyt argues with his mother over what a hateful person she is, and tells her that she is going to meet Jessica. Sookie dreams of laying naked with Eric and exchanging sweet conversation while Lorena is in the background saying that Sookie no longer cares for Bill. At the end of the dream sequence, Eric whispers, "This is the beginning", after climbing on top of Sookie. Maryann goes to the prison and looks for Sam, but Sam spots a fly and shape shifts, escaping from the cell. Hoyt and Jessica meet Mrs. Fortenberry who is very mean to Jessica, whose fangs come out, and belittles her for not being able to bear Hoyt's children. Later that night, Lafayette and Lettie Mae show up at Sookie's house to find Eggs, Tara, and Maryann drinking. Lettie Mae pleads for Tara to change her ways before Maryann blacks out Tara and Eggs. Tara begins attacking her mother and Eggs begins fighting with Lafayette. Lafayette quickly picks up Tara and he and Lettie Mae take her away from Maryann. Sam, as a fly in Sookie's house, witnesses all of this. In Dallas, Eric and the vampires defend their recent actions to Nan Flanagan who berates Godric for his actions and fires him from his Sheriff position. Eric quickly grows irritated with Nan's demeanor and pleads with Godric to fight against the bureaucracy. Godric agrees to the demotion and suggests Isabel should take over as Sharrif. Godric apologizes to everyone and swears to "make amends." Eric is visibly upset after the meeting, and Bill approaches him stating that "they have a score to settle". Bill punches Eric in the mouth, to which Eric shrugs off and goes to meet Godric on the roof. Sookie tells Bill she must go see Godric because she knows he is hurting. On the roof with Sookie watching, Eric breaks down and begs Godric not to meet the sun; first in English, then in Swedish. He states that he will keep him alive by force, but Godric says he is ready to go and commands Eric, as his maker, to leave the roof. Sookie promises Eric she will stay with Godric for "as long as it takes". Godric dies at dawn, in a blue-white flame. Back in Bon Temps, Sam arrives, naked, at Detective Bellefleur's door.

The episode begins with Sookie entering Eric's hotel room where she comforts Eric on the loss of his maker, Godric. This eventually leads to her and Eric kissing and as Eric proceeds to bite Sookie she wakes up to find herself in a car with Jason and Bill, who is in a travel coffin; it was only a dream. Upon entering Bon Temps, they see signs of chaos - the town has been ravaged and a man is seens banging his head on a beam and people are seen running after one another. The driver hits two people who are ammused about getting hit by the car. Jason and Sookie ask if they are OK at which time the two admit they are "looking for Sam" and say "it's almost time," before running away. Maryann is seen preparing for Sam's sacrifice in Sookie's yard with "Carl" & "Eggs." Sam is seen in Andy's hotel room where they discuss the madness occurring in Bon Temps, and the fact that Maryann is a "Maenad." Sam gets a phone call from an upset Arlene who says a "mob" has "Terry." Sam is skeptical but Arlene says Maryann is "Hanibal Lectar crazy" and Arlene is scared Maryann's going to get her kids. This convinces Sam to come to Merlotte's. At Bill's house, Maxine Fortenberry is possessed and being tended to by Jessica and Hoyt. She is ranting about the sacrifice, which is at Maryann's (Sookie's) home. Jason states he is going to Merlotte's to see what's going on. At first Bill & Sookie try to convince Jason to use his head and that he wants no part of this creature. Jason says "Mr. Compton, I am not going to sit back while monsters destroy my town." Bill reassures Sookie that Jason has proven he can handle himself. Hoyt also informs Sookie that Tara has been partying hard with Maryann. Sam arrives at Merlottes's with Andy to find Arlene and others who ambush him. The people of Bon Temps corner Andy and Sam in the freezer. Tara, bound to a chair, is at Lafayette's house, possessed. Lafayette and Lettie Mae try to snap her out of it. Tara continues to speak about the god coming for a sacrifice and she states: "he's on his way!" "He's gonna kills us all!" Bill and Sookie arrive at Sookie's house which is in disarray. Lafayette calls Sookie and urges her to leave. Maryann appears and asks Sookie what she is doing in her home. Sookie tells Maryann this is not her home and she is not scared of Maryann. Maryann slams her against the wall, allowing Sookie to see that it was Maryann who clawed her back. Bill grabs Marynn and throws her down, bites her neck, and immediately begins to vomit. A black liquid is seen oozing from Maryann's neck. Maryann approaches Sookie and says "what are you?" Sookie says "none of your business" and puts her hand in Maryann's face. A bright light is seen coming out of Sookie's palm, lighting up the front of Maryann's face, stopping Maryann. Sookie grabs Bill and they run out. Maryann seems to have enjoyed the experience and continues to say "what are you" as Sookie and Bill leave. Jason enters Merlotte's loaded with a chainsaw and nail gun. After an unsuccesful attemp at getting the people's attention, Jason punches Terry and puts Arlene in a headlack, threatening to shoot her with nails. Terry shouts "Wait! Don't hurt my special lady!" Terry asks what is Jason's demands. Jason says he will give Arlene back once everyone leaves. Terry gives the order as if he's back in the Marines and everyone leaves. Sam and Andy are rescued by Jason in the freezer. Bill continues to vomit out of the window while Sookie drives them to his house, still not understanding how she resisted Mary-ann. Bill asks for Sookie's wrist so he can "heal." Jason talks strategy to get out of the bar, but is too slow. The Mob breaks the windows and threatens the small group. Tara is seen chanting a phrase repeatedly, "lo lo Bromios, lo lo Dendrites, Eleutherios, Enorches, Bacchus." Lafayette slaps her in the face and tells her to "snap the fuck out of it," but she continues. Bill and Sookie arrive as a girl knocks on Lafayette's door looking to buy some "V." Bill gets angry, orders the girl to leave by showing his fangs, and approaches Lafayette angrily before Lafayette says "talk to your boy Eric, he has me pushing the shit!" Sookie approaches a blacked out, vicious, Tara, and tries to read her mind. Sookie tries, seeing only brief flashes of Maryann, and none of Taras thoughts. Bill says he will glamour her so Sookie can get deeper into her mind. At Merlotte's, realizing Maryann will not stop until she gets him, Sam gives himself up to the mob of people. The mob ties up Sam to a car outside. Jason appears with flares and a mask, convincing the possessed mob he is the "God who comes!" He thanks the mob for their good work promising them "good weather" and "lots of crops!" Sam tells Jason ("The God who comes") to "smite him." As Jason screams "Sam Merlotte!" "Die!" Sam then shape-shifts into a fly, disappearing and appearing dead to the crowd. Jason asks the mob if they are "happy," to which yhey say "yes" and Jason tells the mob to leave because the job is done. Jason and Andy wonder what has happened to Sam before he re-appears after the mob is gone with a fire extinguisher and vows to "explain later" and asks Andy and Jason to "help me put out these fuckin' flares before they start a fire." Andy sips from the bottle of alcohol saying "that's the last drink I'll ever take!" Bill glamours Tara while Sookie looks into her mind and sees the events where Tara is blacked-out. Tara's eyes return to normal. Tara begins crying and thinks she's "crazy!" She apologizes to her mom who says "I knew it wasn't you baby!" Tara sees Lafayette and gives him a big hug before she exclaims that she needs to get Eggs. But Lafayette restrains her and says "no!" Sookie and Bill speak outside about the chaos coming completely from Maryann, stating that Maryann wants more than their hearts, she "wants their souls." Bill remembers reading about maenads in the past, figuring Maryann might be one. He says he knows of one vampire that "might" know how to defeat her. Bill says he must leave right away and go see her alone. He kisses Sookie goodbye and leaves. Back at Bill's house, Hoyt and Jessica struggle to restrain Maxine from going to Merlotte's. She repeatedly insults Jessica, and Jessica's anger rises and her fangs come out. Maxine continues to taunt her. Jessica races over to Maxine, pushing Hoyt out of the way and says "give me one good reason why I shouldn't drain you dry?" Maxine continues with insults and Jessica bites down on her, much to the distress of Hoyt. Bill is seen arriving at the queen's lair. A beautiful home with bodyguards at each entrance. Upon entering, he looks shocked, and a bloody foot is seen dangling from the throne.
