The Marikina Science High School (Tagalog: Mataas na Paaralang Pang-Agham ng Marikina), known as MSHS or MariSci, is a public science high school (a high school using the Special Science Curriculum) located at Mayor Juan Chanyungco Street, Sta. Elena, Marikina City. It is an offshoot of the Marikina Institue of Science and Technology which split up last 2001.
The school has been recognized as the best and premier high school in the city for its manageable and small number of students, and competitiveness of its students and teachers. The City Government of Marikina wanted the school to house more students and so, when the SY 2005-2006 started, at least 700 students entered the newly constructed MariSci Annex at Concepcion Uno.[1] .
History
In 1990, a school called Leogardo Victorino Memorial High School was founded in Chanyungco St., Sta. Elena, Marikina, Rizal in honor of Leogardo Victorino, a former councillor in the town of Marikina.
After the town of Marikina became a city, the Leogardo Victorino Memorial High School became an institutional school and was renamed as Marikina Institute of Science and Technology (MIST). In 2001, Marikina Science High School broke from Marikina Institute of Science and Technology.. By the power of R.A. 9289, MIST's college sector was renamed as Marikina Polytechnic College (MPC) but the MPC sector can still eat at the MariSci Canteen while MariSci students can eat at the MPC canteen and vice versa.
The former principal, Mr. Lauro Z. de Guzman was now promoted to become Marikina City's DepEd District 2 Supervisor leaving the school's officer in charge to be the current leader.
August 24, 2009 the staff of the school of both campuses announced that Mr. Edgardo L. Nieto is the new principal of Marikina Science High School (formerly known as MIST). Years ago when MSHS was still known as MIST he was a MAPEH teacher. When MIST became MSHS he was transferred to different public schools to be their principal examples of these schools are Malanday, Marikina Heights, and many more (well actually he bacame principal in 3 public schools MIST/MSHS is not included). He departed MIST around 2002 and returned August 24, 2009 (around 7 years since he departed).
Hymn
This is the Hymn of The Marikina Science High School that is always sang during the flag raising ceremony.
We salute to the school pride of our land
Years have gone by and years have to come
We will stay and stand forever and ever
We the teachers and students to lead
Love and protection will flourish
Knowledge and Wisdom to stay
Power and strength to remain
Oh, dear MARISCI
Hear and protect us
Listen and whisper thy blessings
We'll raise you're banner to the sky
Let us all sing the song of love dearest to our hearts
Oh, Marikina Science High
Forever will shine.
