Orphaned non-free media (Image:Macy.PNG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Macy.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 04:29, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:MGA-LOGO250.gif

Thank you for uploading Image:MGA-LOGO250.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 13:41, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:Bankamericardsign.JPG. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Polly (Parrot) 18:44, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use Image:57971107.zforce.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:57971107.zforce.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 22:04, 12 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello - Regarding your comments on the copyright questions page, I think there is a better way for you to get your images deleted than the {{ifd}} tag you used. That tag puts the image up for discussion to allow others to comment on whether or not to delete the image.

Your images though don't need that kind of discussion. A better method would be to use one of the speedy deletion tags, as explained on this page: Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion.

I'm not sure which of the templates would be best, but I'd guess it would be this one: {{db-i3}}.

Also, since you added incorrect public-domain tags to those pages, it would probably be a good idea to remove the {{PD-self}} tags that you added, and use an edit summary making it clear you never intended to release the images in to public domain, that you did not realize that's what the tag was for, something like this:

Removing PD-self tag I added by mistake. I did not understand the tag when I added it. It was never my intention to release this copyright in any way. My copyright is not in the public domain.

That way, when the admin sees the speedy-delete tag, there will be no public domain release, and there will be a clear edit summary explaining why.

I'm not an admin, so I can't say for sure how this will work, but it seems like the best method to me. --Jack-A-Roe (talk) 20:50, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your pictures

I understand that you want people to ask permission before using your pictures, however one could understand from your photos summary that you have to ask for permission. Please remove this. Guy0307 (talk) 07:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

jonrev, if you want to remove your pictures as discussed above, it would be best not to delay. If you decide to leave them on Wikipedia, they will be under the GFDL license, and that means you would not be able to require permission for uses of the photos, anyone could use them, as provided by the license. --Jack-A-Roe (talk) 07:37, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Jonrev, The {{GFDL}} tag which you placed on Image:GreatSign.JPG grants blanket permission for anyone to use the image anywhere for anything. This contradicts your request for specific permission; please remove that request. —teb728 t c 20:55, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well then what tag should I be using that allows it to be used on Wikipedia but suggests that if someone wants to be using it away from any Wiki project they should ask? I'm not pulling any messages off that image page until I know what I can do to protect my work.--jonrev (talk) 04:17, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There isn’t any such tag. As a matter of policy Wikipedia strongly favors free content—that is, content which anyone is free to reuse for anything, including modification and commercial use.
All images created by the uploader must be free in this sense. The only restrictions you can place on an image are to require attribution ({{cc-by}}) or require that a modified version be licensed under an equivalent license ({{cc-sa}}) or both ({{cc-by-sa}}). Sorry, but if you want more protection than that, you can’t post your work on Wikipedia.
Wikipedia does permit the some use of non-free content (but not that created by the uploader), under highly limited circumstances. In particular non-free content cannot be used if potentially it could be replaced by free content, and its use must be essential to understanding the article. —teb728 t c 20:09, 19 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You probably shouldn't use {{cc-by}}. Otherwise you're totally right. Guy0307 (talk) 10:56, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:GreatSign.JPG

I see other editors have already mentioned this issue. Your note on Image:GreatSign.JPG indicates that you want to be asked for permission before redistribution of the image. This contradicts the GFDL license you have applied to the image which allows anybody to to make use of the image so long as they also adhere to the GFDL. So if yo want people to ask permission for the use of the image, then Wikipedia is not a place for you to share your works. Something like Flickr which provides a wide variety of licensing choices would be more appropriate. Regards. -- Whpq (talk) 15:24, 20 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Image:GreatSign.JPG

A tag has been placed on Image:GreatSign.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [1], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:GreatSign.JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Whpq (talk) 11:29, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Wieboldt.PNG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

NowCommons: File:HPIM0896.JPG

File:HPIM0896.JPG is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Space Shuttle America.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Space Shuttle America.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 19:37, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion incident

An editor has nominated Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion incident, an article which you have created or worked on, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Max Headroom broadcast signal intrusion incident and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to address the nominator's concerns but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you.

Flickr is not a reliable source

Flickr is not acceptable as a source for article content. Since it's user-generated content, it falls under WP:SPS, which indicates that self-published sources should not be used unless the publisher is considered an expert in their field by reliable sources. As far as I know, and unless you're willing to pony up some reliable sources that prove otherwise, your self-published work does not fit that mold. SchuminWeb (Talk) 18:51, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If that is your logic then you need to go ahead and axe every single edit not made by a so-called "expert" and basically block Wikipedia off to any average joe that has source in the form of an image. The proof that the Wards and Central Energy Plant buildings were demolished was right there in front of you; I don't know what else I can give you. Unless you're trying to imply that any image that is not hosted on Wikipedia is considered garbage?

Also I'll have you know that while NOBODY would call ANYBODY an "expert" on something as simple as a dead mall south of Chicago, I've followed and studied Dixie Square's history the past 5-6 years, visited the place three times with over 250 photos and two hours of video footage. I am one of the main sources for information of Dixie Square Mall via YouTube, my images on Flickr, and my website on the mall. Get some facts away from the all-knowing Wikipedia before you "nicely" judge someone as stupid.--jonrev (talk) 05:02, 30 October 2009 (UTC) [still awaits the removal of work I no longer authorize for use on this website][reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Old carsons logo.JPG

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Old carsons logo.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:02, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:ShockWaveLogo.jpg

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:ShockWaveLogo.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 00:21, 30 October 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 00:21, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
