Kond (Armenian: Կոնդ), so-named because of its high position, was called Tapabashi (Turkish for "top of the hill") during the period of Persian rule. Kond was connected to the town's fortress, which contained the palace of the khan of Erivan (sirdar or sardar). The "Ararat" wine factory was later built on the site of the fortress.

Shahar (The Main City)

The Main City (Bun qaghaq), was later called "Shahar" (Persian: شهر , šahr) in French meaning of city. The quarter was located in the place of cinema "Moskva" ("Moscow"). Shahar didn't become the city's business center.
