Help

Hi, i am copying and pasting the exhange I had with you a few days ago, followed by another query. I'd appreciate your help.

o.k, so I have been trying in vain to add a picture to an article i helped expand substantially. The article I am referring to is about the author Patrick French, and at the author's own request I have been trying to upload a picture made available by his publisher. You, and other extremely zealous administrators/editors, keep deleting the image apparently because I have an improper license. I don't see how. I have tried to figure this out, but its extremely confusing. So, here I am, hoping that you could perhaps tell me what I need to do to make sure you don't delete it on a whim. I would appreciate if you did not direct me to one of the Wikipedia pages on uploading images because they are full of jargon and beyond my comprehension. It would be great though if you could give me instructions in simple English. Thank you. Mandakinigahlot1984 (talk) 21:22, 19 December 2009 (UTC)

When you upload the image, you cannot say the image is for Wikipedia use only or for education use only. Images must be either free for anyone for use for anything or licensed under an acceptable fair use license. Furthermore, if you have a conflict of interest with the subject, you probably shouldn't be editing their article anyway. TNXMan 22:31, 19 December 2009 (UTC)
So, I am still not sure how I should upload the picture. I tried a different license but it was still deleted. I would really appreciate if you could tell me exactly which license I ought to choose. I understand about conflict of interest, and I would urge you to read the article, if at all you feel it is non-neutral or biased in anyway, I will be more than happy to make the change.Counting on your advice. Thanks. Mandakinigahlot1984 (talk) 12:50, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
I took another look at the image and saw that it is a copyrighted work (this is why it was deleted). The Random House website indicates that the picture is copyrighted by the photographer. Wikipedia cannot host that image at all unless we receive notification from the author that he releases the copyright. Please see this page for more info. TNXMan 12:54, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

So, I e-mailed the photographer who has a copyright of the picture and this is what he said, "Yes, of course Wikipedia may use the picture with no charge, They should put a copyright sign by it, so anyone who wishes to download may contact me to let me know how it may be used." Could you please let me know, if Wikipedia rules allow that, and if they do, what license should I select while uploading the picture. Thanks 203.200.81.107 (talk) 13:49, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think the best idea would be to post your question at the copyright question page. They would be able to give you better assistance than I. TNXMan 14:31, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chow Sang Sang page (deleted)

Hi! I've created a page "Chow Sang Sang" and hope to add in more information on it as it is a famous jewellery retailer with long history in Hong Kong. But I found it deleted with the reason "G11. Unambiguous advertising or promotion". Just want to know if there's anything I can do, like how to edit it or which part needed to be edited etc, to retain the page? Thanks a lot for your help and please forgive my inexperience on editing.Cathy Tam (talk) 08:01, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your best bet is to read our info on writing your first article, how to write from a neutral point of view, and how to use reliable sources. After that, your best bet is to write a draft of the article in your userspace (something like User:Cathy Tam/Sandbox) and ask another editor to review it when you are done. Alternately, you could look at the articles for creation process. TNXMan 12:47, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! I've written a draft (add more historical info)of the article in my userspace User:Cathy Tam. Could you please help me to review it if it's ok or anything you suggest to add/delete? Thanks a lot for your help!Cathy Tam (talk) 10:21, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the article still does not list any independent reliable sources that support the facts listed in the article. That's a big step before the article is ready to go. TNXMan 12:48, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. The article you just speedy deleted (Tokyo Industries (UK)‎) also had an AfD on (from which the speedy delete consensus came) which hasn't been closed yet. I would close it myself, but, well, I'm the nominator. Just in case you forgot. Thanks, Lord Spongefrog, (I am Czar of all Russias!) 17:28, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The page was deleted because it didn't indicate why the musician was notable enough to warrant an article. I would encourage you to read our guide on writing your first article. TNXMan 18:59, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

SOUIT

I know my page is marked for deletion and I am adding some more information to prevent this... but...

SOUIT is new technology that is talked about in some web development circles. The technology is coming forth in much the same way that AJAX (Asynchronous Javascript And XML) came about in 2005. Several people were using it and finally it got more attention when it got a name.

So SOUIT, SOUI, SOFEA are all acronyms which mean the same thing. Please let's not destroy new information, I will add to the page as the information grows, but it has to start somewhere and currently it is only a tiny seed waiting to blossom.

Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not a place of first publication. We should only have articles on terms and definitions that have already received significant coverage in independent reliable sources. TNXMan 20:05, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

bigbank

hi, can I ask what is the reason to delete the page "bigbank"? this text indeed is from the BIGBANK AS official webpage ([1]), but we as a owners of this text are allowing to share it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bigbank15 (talkcontribs) 08:02, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you do own the text, you'll need to follow the directions on this page. Furthermore, if you have a conflict of interest, you're discouraged from editing the page, as we strive to maintain a neutral point of view. TNXMan 12:55, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

modifications

Hi Tnxman - I added some additional info and removed the "advertisement". I was waiting for your additions and/or rewrite to "clean it up" but it wasn't taking place, so...I got a little proactive and made my additions and modifications. Please let me know how to "clean up" what is there so that I can continue to share what I'm finding about Mr. DeMaria, I don't want to advertise him, just share what I find fascinating about his work. Any tips would be appreciated. Thank you, SBCLA —Preceding unsigned comment added by SBCLA (talkcontribs) 15:23, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your reason to delete

I am forming a wiki page for the companu www.chain-sys.com Its a software company that makes Oracle erp software. Is there a template that I can use similar to say the iki for Microsoft to base my article on so that it does not get deleted? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Roshankv (talkcontribs) 17:21, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The page was deleted because it was advertising for the company. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, how to write from a neutral point of view, and how to use reliable sources. TNXMan 17:30, 5 January 2010 (UTC)okay[reply]

Rocdigitizing

Hi Tnxman! Do you think you could protect User talk:Rocdigitizing or else change the block of the user so they can't edit their user talk page? They were blocked (by you - that's why I'm badgering you about it :-) ) for having a company name as user name; all they ever did before being blocked was to post adverts to their user talk page, and after the block in November they have been back a couple of times to add more advertising to their talk page. I have the page watchlisted so reverting is not a big problem, but there is no point in not preventing them from spamming, or at least I don't think there is. (How's that for multiple negations.)

Happy New Year! --bonadea contributions talk 09:50, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've added the page to my watchlist. If it happens again, I'll protect the page. Thanks for the heads up! TNXMan 12:45, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jewish Women's Archive page

I have tried to present the JWA material in a neutral, factual tone. I am happy to reword it, but I would like some direction as to why you think that this is problematic. Is there something in the article so far that is untrue? Exaggerated? Inappropriate? Is there something inappropriate about there being an article about this organization on Wikipedia? [Fair disclosure: I am an employee of this organization, although I have made Wikipedia edits that go back prior to my employment at JWA, and since then, on topics related to JWA and to other issues/links entirely.] Adavidow (talk) 21:30, 6 January 2010 (UTC)Ari Davidow[reply]

The article was deleted because it was advertising (basically, it was a list of publicity points for the group, sourced only to the group itself) and did not indicate why the group was notable enough to warrant an article. If you have a conflict of interest with the group, you are highly discouraged from editing/creating articles about them. Our info on writing your first article may be of assistance here as well. TNXMan 21:35, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AdacoRevisionVA

It appears it was deleted earlier for Advertising or Promotion. Please let us know what to do in order to correct this also. We do not wish to violate any of Wikipedia's policies. Acting under the request of President of Adaco, we are attempting to publish this article. Please let me know what we need to do in order to successfully post the article. I'm sure the President will verify his desire for the article to be published here by us.Lastly, the article should just be entitled "Adaco" not AdacoRevisionVA, however I believe that is my assistant's fault. Thank you very much. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Xceptional2010 (talkcontribs) 22:11, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The article was deleted because it was advertising and not written from a neutral point of view and did not indicate why the group was notable enough to warrant an article. Also, if you have a conflict of interest with the group, you are highly discouraged from editing/creating articles about them. Our info on writing your first article may have more info for you. Data Applied Page Edits

Hi, I've noticed you changed content for the Data Applied page I created a few weeks ago. It's true that the article was mixing information about the company and the software, so I've tried to improve content to make it only about the environment (as per other Wikipedia articles such as KNIME, WEKA, RapidMiner, SPSS Clementine, etc.). Thanks! Marksenizer (talk) 23:13, 7 January 2010 (UTC)marksenizer.[reply]

Edit: forgot to mention I have no affiliation with the company (I just use their environment). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Marksenizer (talkcontribs) 23:25, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but the software isn't notable enough to warrant an article. I've restored the info about the company, as it is the only one to have received coverage in independent reliable sources. I've left the software as a header under "products". TNXMan 00:29, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for restoring some of the content. Obviously I'm sad to see all the technical info I had collected gone, but won't change anything until I find a reliable source regarding the environment. For the sake of fairness / consistency, please do take a look at wikipedia articles about rapidminer and knime.

Marksenizer (talk) 00:49, 8 January 2010 (UTC)marksenizer[reply]

Well, articles are maintained independently of each other. What one article looks like/includes has no bearing on another. If you do find reliable sources, please feel free to include them in the article. TNXMan 14:41, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

deletion of the EuroNF page

Dear Tnxman307,

I see that you have considered that the EuroNF page which I tried to publish was inadequate for some reasons. I am indeed no expert on wikipedia etiquette, and I just tried aligning to similar material from other Networks of Excellence descriptions (see e.g. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_of_Identity_in_the_Information_Society) which were considered as adequate.

what did I miss? where did I do wrong?

I would welcome any help from you: EuroNF is indeed a recognized NoE, and I do not understand why explaining what it does is a problem. And before going into the pain of writing new material (and believe me, it is indeed a pain when you are no expert....) I would like to clarify whatever was initially wrong.

Also, I do wonder why Wikipedia did not send me any warning before discarding the material. Or did I miss it? was it sent by a pigeon which was shot before reaching me?

annie 14:31, 8 January 2010 (UTC)~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Gravey annie (talkcontribs)

Can I create a page for this singer songwriter?

Her name is Phoebe Peek and she is a rising YouTube star! I believe she will be very popular within the new few months and this page will benefit her and give her exposure. I will include internal links to YouTube. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Eiddamkeep (talkcontribs) 14:48, 8 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I was wondering if you could remove the "blocked from editing Wikipedia" appears box on my talk page. I have since changed my username, which was excepted, and am not sure why I am still blocked from making edits. Could you please explain to me how this works as I am still new to Wiki and would like to know if you cannot remove the block what steps I need to take to have it lifted.
