"Under Pressure"
Song

"Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)" is the debut single by Irish pop duo Jedward (also known as John & Edward). The single is a mashup of "Under Pressure", originally recorded in 1981 by Queen and David Bowie, and "Ice Ice Baby", recorded by Vanilla Ice in 1989. Vanilla Ice is featured on the new 2010 track almost 20 years after the release of the original track in 1990.

"Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)" was released in the United Kingdom on 31 January 2010 via download,[1][2] and as a physical single on 15 February 2010. It is also being simultaneously released in Ireland. The single is on Sony Music. The physical release is coming in an album case, rather than an ordinary singles' case. It includes a double-sided poster and full lyrics in addition to the actual CD itself.[3]

On 5 February 2010, following strong amounts of digital downloading, "Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)" entered the Irish Singles Chart at #1, marking Jedward's first number one.

Public performances and promotion

Jedward first performed it live on week 6 (Freddie Mercury/Queen week) on the sixth series of the British TV series The X Factor, shown on 14 November 2009.[5] They were known as John & Edward at the time.

During the National Television Awards on 20 January 2010, they went on to perform "Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)" with Vanilla Ice joining them on stage in the second half of the song.[6]

The song was first played on BBC Radio 1 on 24 January 2010. In promoting the single, Jedward appeared on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross and Radio 1's The Chris Moyles Show. They also performed the song on 1 February 2010 on GMTV and on 4 February on This Morning. They are also scheduled to perform the song on 5:19 Show on BBC2 and will appear on The Saturday Night Show on RTE1 both on 6 February.

Reaction

Vanilla Ice (Robert Van Winkle) praised the twins. He said: "I think they're great - I didn't know much about them until a couple of weeks ago. I checked out YouTube and I went 'no way', and after I got over the laugh, they invited me to come out."[7]

Louis Walsh said about the release: "[Jedward] really captured the public's imagination while on The X Factor. Love them or hate them, you can't deny that they were the talking point of the series. As "Under Pressure" was the track that really catapulted the boys to fame, it seemed only fitting to release the song as their first single."[8][9]

Alex Fletcher of Digital Spy reviewed the song negatively, awarding two stars out of five, saying, "Quite where Jedward go next remains to be seen - can they squeeze out an entire album of corny pop-rap covers?"[10]

Music video

The music video premiered on 29 January 2010 on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross when Ross showed a preview containing some brief scenes from the video.

The music video[11] was released in its entirety on 2 February 2010. It was shot in the Mill Lane Studios in London and the dance moves were choreographed by the American Brian Friedman who worked with the twins on British talent show The X Factor. He has also worked with Britney Spears, 'N Sync, Norman Cook, Samantha Mumba, Monica (entertainer), Pink, Chayanne, M2M (band), Prince and Aphex Twin [12].

The music video is directed by well-known American director Dale "Rage" Resteghini and produced by Luti Fagbenle with his production company "Lut! Media". Oliver Kester was first assistance director and Joe Labisi the director of photography. Laura Johnstone was the art director and Portobello Post's John Holloway (editor/colorist) and Amarjeet (VFX). The video was commissioned by Dan Millar[13]

The video features Jedward performing in front of a gigantic screen, displaying name Jedward and title Under Pressure as well as various words from the song lyrics. Jedward also join a large dance routine with pyrotechnics. Vanilla Ice joins the duo in a later scene performing in front of a 12ft by 30ft grafitti design prepared by Thomas ‘TJ’ Dolan also known by his street art moniker 'Krek'. He had been given a 15-month sentence after he was caught painting graffiti around Manchester and Cheshire[14] and was invited to contribute this work inspired by the grafitti in the original Vanilla Ice music video for Ice Ice Baby. In another reference to the original video, Vanilla Ice sprays the word "Ice" in red towards the end of the video.

Why they are so hated across the Globe

John and Edward are hated across the whole globe because they are no-talent idiots who cannot even sing a simple song; they are karaoke singers, lame!
