Park Sandara (Korean: 박산다라, Hanja: 朴三陀羅), born November 12, 1984, commonly known as Dara (다라), is a Korean singer, dancer, actress, model and television host. She is a member of the Korean girl group 2NE1. She is a former Korean expatriate who once starred in movies and dramas in the Philippines.

Background

Park Sandara was born in Busan, South Korea. Park was born into a wealthy South Korean family although when she was eight her family ran into financial difficulties and moved to the Philippines to start a new business. Park spent the remainder of her youth growing up in the Philippines [1]

Career

2004-2006: In the Philippines

Park involved in a talent show in the Philippines, known as Star Circle Quest.In the final rounds of text voting, she earned the highest number of votes from the viewing audience, a record 500,000 (for females); in the final count she was second only to Hero Angeles, and had earned somewhere around two million votes.

After appearing in many local television spots and commercials, Park tried her hand at recording. She released a song collection that hit double platinum sales after only six months, then returned to film and television appearances.

2007-present: Return to Korea

Park returned to South Korea on August 1, 2007[2] with her mother and siblings to begin a new life. The next day, August 2, 2007, YG Entertainment reported that they had signed a contract with Sandara Park.[3] As a new member of the YG family, she joined popular Korean artists and bands such as Big Bang, Gummy, Se7en, Jinusean, Lexy, and 1TYM. Sandara's younger brother, Sang Hyun, also debuted in early October 2009 as a rapper and dancer of a Korean boy band, MBLAQ in J.Tune Entertainment.

Acting

Sandara has landed a cameo role in the Korean historical drama, The Return of Iljime. It was revealed in Star Diary that Sandara had been offered a lead role in a movie but was suddenly dropped when she was practicing her lines.

She is offered to play the lead role in Korea's version of "Step Up" but talks are still ongoing about the production.

Singing

She is the first member of 2NE1 to release a single entitled Kiss. On its commercial / music video, she was joined by Korean actor Lee Min Ho who is mostly known as Goo Jun Pyo from the drama Boys Over Flowers. The single "Kiss" grabbed the number one spot the same day it was released. She first performed it live in the MAMA awards night for their performance 21st Street Musical.
