WLGA is a television station in Opelika, Alabama. The channel broadcasts in digital on UHF channel 47. Its studios are located in Opelika, with its transmitter located in Cusseta, Georgia. The station serves western Georgia and eastern Alabama.

The station signed on for the first time on May 16, 1982 as WSWS-TV. WSWS carried cartoons, religious shows, low budget movies, and programming from the Financial News Network in the early 1980s. It was owned by Warden Broadcastng.

The FNN programs were dropped by 1987 and the station continued with its blend of barter cartoons, barter sitcoms, religious shows, and older movies. It later affiliated with Christian Television Network (CTN). RCH Broadcasting acquired the station in 1988.

The station continued with an all barter programming lineup along with Christian programming from CTN. It affiliated with the upsart UPN network in 1995, however it had also aired programs from The WB (secondary), and CTN (primary under CTN ownership). It added some programming from Pax TV (secondary) as well. Beginning in September 2006 the station joined The CW as an affiliate when UPN merged with The WB network. Pappas Telecasting bought the station outright in 1996 and upgraded programming somewhat.

On April 2, 2009, it was announced that The CW would discontinue its relationship with WLGA, instead choosing to broadcast on a digital subchannel of NBC affiliate WLTZ, effective April 27. [1] WLGA is now an independent station, replacing its CW programming with syndicated programming such as Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, My Wife and Kids, My Name Is Earl, The Andy Griffith Show, South Park, Access Hollywood, America's Funniest Home Videos, Frasier, Reno 911!, The Martha Stewart Show, Family Feud, Deal or No Deal, Judge Hatchett, Chappelle's Show and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire ,in addition to movies.

Channel 66 was WSWS until a call letter change to WLGA was approved by the FCC and went into effect on June 27, 2005. The "WSWS" calls were moved to sister station WSWS-CA, the ABC affiliate in North Platte, Nebraska; they remained there until June 12, 2009, when it became KHGI-CA to reflect its parent station, KHGI-TV.

The station apparently plays most of its programming from tapes, as at the beginning of most programs there are extra bits being transmitted. These include "Play", "Tracking", and "video Calibration", typical things shown from a VCR when a tape is played.

At the beginning of June, WLGA notified the cable providers in the Columbus market, that they would temporarily cease broadcasting, starting June 4, 2010 at 11:59 PM. The station's website, wlgatv.com issued the following statement: "It is with great regret that WLGA-TV ceased broadcast operations at 11:59 PM Friday, June 4, 2010. We anticipate that WLGA-TV will return to normal broadcast operations in the future, however, a firm date has not been established at this time. If you have questions or need additional information please do not hesitate to contact the station at sa@pappastv.com."
