Postseason stats-Home Runs

Don't a players post season home runs count towards their career records? If so then his home run total should be 588.--Subman758 (talk) 04:15, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They don't. --Muboshgu (talk) 10:54, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, no postseason action counts toward season or career stats at all. Daveisland (talk) 03:02, 27 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image consultants

Preceding mention that Rodriguez will be a spokesperson against steroids it mentions he hires a "cadre of image consultants". I think it's OK to mention the consultants in the article, but putting it right before mentioning he'll speak against steroids to high school children is implicitly accusing him of only doing it for selfish reasons and is therefore biased. 65.199.57.194 (talk) 22:08, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch. I agree it could be relevant for a part of the article where it doesn't produce bias, but as I couldn't find a spot I took it out. Maybe a paragraph somewhere should describe his use of consultants, but it shouldn't necessarily be in the steroids section. --Muboshgu (talk) 22:32, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Events in progress

please do not add stuff that may have to be edited after the event is over; i.e. 2009 WS: Don't write yanx are up 3-1 in series as it will change by tomorrow's game (btw, this is arod's page, NOT the yankees page. The link to "2009 WS" is enough for a/one to research the WS results.)[sorry for putting on top of page; just seems most important contemporary issue]Daveisland (talk) 18:31, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you on this, but with the high level of interest, there's not much we can do. After the WS is over, anonymous users will stop coming around adding little bits and pieces of information that fail the WP:RECENT test, and we'll fix up the section for a more appropriate historical perspective. (BTW it is better to put new topics at the bottom, as it can be easier to reach than those below the headers.) --Muboshgu (talk) 18:40, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

2009 Postseason

If you like the listed version; I intended to remove the text... (this may be the climax of his career...!) Daveisland (talk) 04:58, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

need to fix typo

This article is locked for editing. So maybe someone else can fix the typo "tow outs". 71.193.236.104 (talk) 06:56, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Done--Muboshgu (talk) 13:45, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

His nationality

We know that because his natural born, for purposes of the presidency, he is an American. But this is a baseball player and for the baseball world, he is Dominican for the World Baseball Classic. This is solely for the baseball world. Thus he has two categories of nationality that are notable. His real nationality of American and his baseball nationhood. He is a baseballer so his baseball nation is notable. Lingust (talk) 21:51, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

And it says in the first sentence that he "is an American professional baseball player of Dominican parentage and his aunt Mercecdes Davis raised him in Dominican republic. and his favorite niece/cousin is ivana davis" That's plenty. --Muboshgu (talk) 21:38, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is just that when I watch the World Series, it made he think he was Tony Fernandez in that he wasn't American. It is confusing. Therefore I think it notable that readers should not be confused and that the bvaseball world frequently refers to him as Dominican, which is silly because he learned to play in America! Dominican players dsiplay their Dominican qualities learned frm playing on that island. Alex learned an American style of Baseball. Lingust (talk) 21:51, 12 November 2009 (UTC)b[reply]
I don't really follow what you're saying. The first sentence says he's an American of Dominican heritage and that's plenty of information about his ethnicity. --Muboshgu (talk) 22:02, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

co-captain?

Is he co-captain now?

Writer: You have very big … hands.

[They walk over to a new take on Grant Wood's "American Gothic," with A-Rod holding a baseball bat instead of a pitchfork, posed next to Derek Jeter, with Yankee Stadium in the background.]

A-Rod: I call this one "American League Gothic." It depicts the two great Yankee co-captains just before a big game.

Are you serious? Do you realize that ESPN's Page 2 is usually for spoof articles? --Muboshgu (talk) 17:39, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism Section - Not Clutch

This section is basically about how Arod is not considered to be clutch. The section is outdated and irrelevant due to his performance in the 2009 playoffs. No one debates whether or not he is clutch anymore. This entire section should be deleted. Does anyone disagree? Sportsbettor123 (talkcontribs) 21:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking about this. Some of it could be kept, if put in a historical perspective. But it is clearly over the top as it is. --Muboshgu (talk) 03:10, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I just reread this section, and it's completely outdated. I still think it should be removed in it's entirety. Sportsbettor123 (talk) 15:40, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Some of it needs to be kept. Let's discuss what should stay and what should go. I'm totally okay with reducing the size of it, but it needs to be mentioned. --Muboshgu (talk) 17:21, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I made some dramatic changes to the section, trying to shorten it and update it. Also, I've tried to reorganize the section as it had obviously grown organically over a long period. My efforts are by no means stellar, and I suggest people look at the section with new eyes to see how to further improve it.LedRush (talk) 18:52, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It is, at the least, a good start. Thank you. I'll take a closer look at it later. --Muboshgu (talk) 19:07, 3 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nice updates. The section seems relevant again. Sportsbettor123 (talk) 02:29, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I made some minor copyedits to the section. I think the section ought to stay included -- it's part of Arod's historical record that he's come under fire for being "un-clutch" (ludicrous as those criticisms may have been). I'm also going to remove the tag suggesting integrating the section elsewhere -- the section hardly gives undue weight to the controversy, which extended over a period of several years and occupied who-knows-how-many back pages in the sports press. ɠǀɳ̩ςεΝɡbomb 16:48, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Range Factor

The range factor claims currently tagged as as "citation needed" can be verified on ESPN's page (and probably elsewhere). The claims as stated are accurate and verifiable. I'd add the cite, but on second thought I question whether it's really a useful thing to state. It makes it sound like that's the final word on his defense, which it surely isn't. Range factor isn't the only defensive stat, and A-Rod does not rank last on many of the others. To cite it exclusively feels like you're trying to push a point of view criticizing him defensively. (Also, even on range factor, in 2004 and 2005 he was tied for last, not alone.) Iglew (talk) 23:31, 22 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Youngest to hit 600"

This stat is misleading, while he may be the youngest to achieve this he took an above average time to do so. He played 183 more games than Babe Ruth. Because Rodriguez started playing baseball at a much earlier age than many of the greats should be noted. He is a good player, but statements concerning his age should be taken out. Games played/Seasons are a better barometer of talent than age.
