Hi. I wish you could have warned me before deleting our club's page. I didn't realize it didn't meet certain requirements. Now I have no way of getting back what I had written, unless you happen to have saved it for some reason (pleasepleaseplease) or could direct me to a way of uncovering it. I'd like to use it for other things. Thanks a lot jerk, I worked pretty hard on that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Societyofthecicadas (talkcontribs) 13:27, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Sir. I had started a page on the topic of MPEG-C to provide more widely-accessible information about the standard; there are four parts to it, and I worked with MPEG to develop two of them. I regret that I had no substantive content on the page before posting it, but the page is truly a work in progress. If you would be willing to provide the content to me, I will update it with more substantive content before reposting it. Best Regards, Arianne T. Hello ... My name is Arianne Hinds, and I am a current member of the MPEG committee (ISO/IEC/JTC1/SC29/WG11). I was trying to start a page on the topic of MPEG-C and had posted a page that was simply an outline (with some references as external links). Other members of the MPEG committee were waiting for me to post this page so that we could work on it together online. Would it be possible to get the page restored so that we can continue to work on it? Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ariannehinds (talkcontribs) 18:32, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Travelex Group

Hi there. You are correct that the article about the Travelex Group didn't contain a massive amount of information. However, I thought the point of Wikipedia was that it was a collaborative site and others could add further information. Also that the article could be updated over time. Here are a couple of articles about the Travelex Group:

Article in the Daily Mail, one of the highest circulation English language newspapers, saying it is the world largest foreign exchange bureau: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/article-1307055/Worlds-largest-foreign-exchange-bureau-Travelex-race-sort-huge-debt.html?ito=feeds-newsxml

An article on the Bloomberg website quoting an expert from Travelex: nhttp://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-08-23/yen-rises-toward-seven-week-high-versus-euro-on-slowdown-aussie-declines.html

And then of course there are all the Wikipedia articles which mention Travelex without there being any page about it where you can find out more. Here are a couple: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lloyd_Dorfman (Travelex founder)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quasi_Universal_Intergalactic_Denomination (article about a currency invented as a marketing stunt for Travelex - apparently this is more notable than the company itself?)

I could go on, but I can't be bothered to. Well done, you've deleted the page, now there remain a load of dead links to a non-existent page and I can't update the page to add more info, nor can anyone else, and no one can get any information about this company on Wikipedia. That was the reason I started the page - I wanted to know about the company and was surprised to find no information on Wikipedia. I can't be bothered to rewrite it [i]and[/i] battle against Wikipedians who have the time and inclination to spend all day deleting sites. Frankly I can't be bothered and I have better things to do. No wonder so many people find contributing to Wikipedia too daunting to bother with.

Souths Sunnybank

Hi, Author here of Souths_Sunnybank_RLFC. It has been deleted as Copyright infringing, however nothing has been 'copied' from the source other than facts. I have compressed a couple of hundred words from the history section of the source into a couple of sentences of fact statement. This first draft of the SSRLFC page was modelled of other similar club pages, I'd imaging they'd have the same issues. If there is something specific on the page that has triggered the deletion please let me know and I'll have a look at changing it. Regards Andrew Drewj76 (talk) 00:45, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have deleted it with the correct reason. Kimchi.sg (talk) 02:40, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm... 99% of the articles I have just browsed through make no explicit statement of importance, especially articles about similar clubs/teams/players. The content speaks for itself. How (in the context of the article) is someone supposed to 'indicate why its subject is important or significant'. Unlike Wikipedia:Notability there is no 'help' page defining importance. Also, if the page is deleted, how am I supposed to make the change that will hopefully result from your answer? Drewj76 (talk) 02:58, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Unlike Wikipedia:Notability there is no 'help' page defining importance. - then defer to the former, specifically you're looking for notability guidelines for groups. Notability is a more rigid standard than importance. If your page states importance but not notability (a big "if"), it'd likely not be speedy deleted. Still it wouldn't survive a deletion discussion which is basically an army of people yelling "delete, non-notable" instead of just me.
Also, if the page is deleted, how am I supposed to make the change - I've moved the article to User:Drewj76/Souths Sunnybank RLFC for you to improve at your own time. Kimchi.sg (talk) 02:06, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Need suggestions/guidance on "Knowlarity Communications"

Dear Kimchi.sg,

I am trying to write an article on Knowlarity Communications and have tried improvising this article based on the feedback and guidelines as recommended by Wiki and you. However, it has gone into deletion again. This organization, Knowlarity Communications, is helping the Indian government track a meal scheme served at schools for the Indian children (below poverty line) which is quite a big step in social responsibility from a corporate. Could you please recommend me with some issue on this article, so that i can improvise and rewrite my article accordingly. It would really be of great help if you could put in your suggestions for improvement .I have tried writing this article from a neutral point of view. However, if any specific information i need to delete/improvise on, please suggest me on those lines. Speedy deletion of article "Giorgi Latsabidze"

I started this article a year ago, and have noticed numerous additions since that time by other contributors. I am surprised and dismayed that the article was subject to "speedy deletion" without any discussion after all that time. Has something objectionable been added that needed to be removed? Can the problem be corrected by reverting to an earlier version? Or has the article been defective all this time and the defects were just now noticed! I am not an expert on Wikipedia procedures but I feel that this action requires a protest or at least some further explanation as to what the specific problems are. Please advise ASAP Music43lover (talk) 16:46, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding protesting the deletion of "Giorgi Latsabidze"

I note on my talk page an indication from another user that nominated the article for speedy deletion that it can be protested by leaving a tag on the article or its talk page. Of course, since the article and its talk page were immediately deleted, these action do not seem possible. Please advise what I should do either here on your talk page or on mine. Thanks much. You can make a request on deletion review. Kimchi.sg (talk) 23:53, 9 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I found this "deletion review" page since I left the last note. The page suggests that I first ask you why you felt the page should be deleted. So I am asking you now, and I would appreciate a response in terms of the comments above regarding the long history of this article, which would seem to call for some discussion of possible remedies rather than a speedy deletion. A lot of work has gone into this page by many contributors besides me over a long period of time. The page has numerous references to the information provided. If the information is complementary to the subject, consider that it might be a simple reflection of the subject's merit. If the article is too long or contains excessive material deemed to be "promotional", perhaps this can be simply remedied through appropriate deletions, rather than a complete deletion of the article. Perhaps an earlier version of the article would be considered more "encyclopedic" and we could revert to that. Thank you for your attention to this. Music43lover (talk) 00:04, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Latsabidze seems to be a talented pianist for his age, but as he is still a student, this biography was well before its time, and well out of proportion to his standing in the world – a clear case of WP:CRYSTAL. The existence of the large number of professional and personal images uploaded, and the rather overstated biography would all point to a concerted professional attempt to publicise an up-and-coming artist – many much more accomplished artists do not have such extensive Wikipedia entries, if at all – I cite Vladimir Ashkenazy, André Previn, Pinchas Zukerman Li Yundi. Music43lover implied that many other editors have contributed to it over its lifetime, but a closer examination would reveal that most of those changes were of form and not of substance. It was only after spending an hour or two on the article, reviewing the details that I realised it was beyond salvation. The so-called references were at best footnotes, most of the 'real' references were linked to the subject's own self-aggrandising website, so it would be not an enormous problem recreating it from scratch ;-) I would not oppose userfication. Whatever the outcome, I would suggest that Music43lover left it for a few years, so that the subject can acquire some stature in the world, before recreating this biography in mainspace. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 01:52, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some of your criticism of the present article may well be justified. It is difficult for me to judge, since I haven't gone back to the article recently, but recall that it was in a rapid process of growth the last time that I looked and may have become disproportionately long. But let me address some of the specifics that you cite above. Latsabidze is not that young for a performer, already into his thirties after an obvious start as a notable child prodigy. He is indeed highly talented and, while he is still a student, he is now a few credits from his DMA at USC after excelling in several other series of studies as cited. If a performing artist doesn't stop their studies, considering the inevitable sacrifice in delaying their focus on performance opportunities, that is hardly a criticism and can be viewed instead as a dedication to the perfection of their art. Second, the cited references on his website are intended to direct the reader to required substantiation for claims in the article, as required in the encyclopedic format. In many cases, the substantiation is in the form of images of relevant documents such as certificates of awards, or translations of highly favorable reviews of notable performances that were excerpted in the article. Such images are unlikely to be found online and my approach in these cases was to request that Latsabidze place the document images and translations on his website so that they could be referenced. The translations were my own, based on the original foreign language sources. The original review texts were also made available, since these translations are not otherwise authenticated. I have the original (paper) published sources of these review articles in my files, which I personally scanned to produce the cited texts. As far as missing biographies of notable musicians on Wikipedia such as you cited is concerned, I can offer only the explanation that producing a good article is a lot of work, and requires some enthusiasm for the subject. In Latsabidze's case, my enthusiasm is the result of hearing him perform personally several times and having some knowledge of his background. Others that have contributed to the article undoubtedly had a similar motivation. I personally have no monetary interest in Latsabidze's future success or other conflict of interest.

All this aside, I suggest the following resolution. The article may well be disproportionate at this time. I suggest that it be restored temporarily with a suitable deletion warning so that it can be modified to the satisfaction of the Wikipedia editors. I can move the restored article to my workspace for this purpose and you and others can review the progress of these changes. Please let me know if this suggestion is an acceptable compromise. Music43lover (talk) 19:59, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kimchi.sh and Ohconfucius: I am patiently waiting for some reply to the above. There was precious little time between Ohconfucius nominating the article for deletion and its actual deletion. I believe that my discussion above is an adequate motivation for you to reconsider the abrupt deletion of a long-standing article that demonstrably meets all of the published Wikipedia criteria for notability, is very well referenced in most if not all respects, etc. If the article has grown out of proportion, that can be fixed. I again suggest that you restore the article so it can be revised as necessary, and we can avoid a formal protest of the deletion. I will consider your continued silence and inaction as a serious discourtesy. Music43lover (talk) 22:17, 11 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see this morning that the page has been restored to my workspace. It was immediately obvious to me that it has grown unreasonably with promotional links and other material since I last reviewed it. I will eliminate these and carefully review the rest of the article to prune any material that appears unsuitable for this encyclopedic context. Thank you for making this possible without further fuss. It is much appreciated. And any criticism or editing that you can provide for the intermediate products will be highly welcomed as well. You are clearly much more familiar than I am with Wikipedia standards. Music43lover (talk) 16:03, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Good luck, and Happy editing! Whilst you are contemplating what improvements to make to the article, I might suggest you try your hand at editing other articles in WP, not necessarily music-related but not excluding them, to get a better feel of what sort of style and content is acceptable and what is not. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 02:33, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please see my user page for an edited version of the Latsabidze article. I have tried to remove all elements that were found objectionable, including some identified "peacock" terms and the quotes that were considered excessive. (The quotes are now referenced instead on Latsabidze's website, but I can put copies of the scanned foreign-language originals on Wikiquotes if that is not considered a copyright violation, and/or can post my original-language files and excerpt translations there.) I left a subset of the audio links, but more of these can be removed if they are still considered excessive. I also deleted some of the pictures. The remaining elements are, I believe, all directly related to the defined Wikipedia elements of notability for performing musicians, and are essentially all referenced from reliable sources. The biography is perhaps still somewhat long, but I personally consider that to be a reflection of Latsabidze's relevant achievements, particularly for someone his age.

I am of course totally open to further criticism and suggestions re the article, and please feel free to pass them on to me or to edit the article directly as you see fit. Any contibutions along these lines would be very helpful. Music43lover (talk) 18:17, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • FYI, as personendata, category tags and interwiki links are not used on articles in userspace, I have now disabled them. --Ohconfucius ¡digame! 03:21, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed an editor attempting to re-add a speedy deletion template after you had just declined it, so I reverted. However, looking more closely, I see that you declined it because " offline references are provided." However, the name of those offline references seems to indicate that they are self published--both are from the "Festival of Praise" magazine. Since it appears that he only references that the article has are self-published, and that thus the festival has not even legitimately asserted notability, could it not possibly be correct to speedily delete? If you don't agree, I can go ahead and AfD the article instead. Qwyrxian (talk) 12:17, 10 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

deleted reference to Corotron

You mentioned that the article was an "unambiguous advertising or promotion". I have no idea as to what had been said nor any idea that there was a previous article when i posted the (new) addition on the Corotron. I see a very large number of "tron" entries and know that most of the names are trademarks - exactly like "Corotron" is a trademark. So, in that light, either all should be accepted or all should be rejected (which would make for a _very_ short list - maybe even of zero length. As a point of reference, Victoreen has not made the Corotron for well over 10 years and it is extremely unlikely that they, or anyone else, would make these gas filled regulators in the future as it was both an art and science requiring great skill. So, delete, modify or leave my entry as you see fit. I would appreciate knowing the actual reasoning for the action(s). Thank you, Robert L Baer Robertlbaer (talk) 16:48, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Actually it was more like a pointer to the PDF catalogue than advertising. Unfortunately a page is also deletable for being just a pointer to a link. Kimchi.sg (talk) 03:02, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your deletion of Suicide of Billy Lucas

You deleted the article. Fair enough. But it is, at best, unusual to delete stub articles containing mainstream media sources and that assert notability. Perhaps you would be kind enough to provide your rationale, please? "A7" is insufficient in this case since the article did assert, in a stubby manner, the importance of the article. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 07:21, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No, committing "suicide after suffering abuse and bullying at the school" isn't notable in itself and neither is the vague claim that this "has created a strong wave of pressure for better anti-bullying processes at his and neigborhood schools". I don't see these as claims for notability. Kimchi.sg (talk) 04:43, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Nonetheless, notability was asserted and the article was both a stub and referenced. The item has made and continues to make the national press. Please reinstate the article in order that it may fulfil the functions of a stub article: to be worked on and improved. This was not a candidate for speedy deletion. Fiddle Faddle (talk) 06:15, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of some files

Hi. I see you are an admin and I saw you editing page "Criteria for speedy deletion", so I would ask you can you speedy delete these files from English Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:PANONIAN#Files_for_deletion - I am author of most these files (except "Novi_sad_quarters_Sremska_Kamenica.PNG", which was uploaded by another user, but that file too is a derivative work created from my own work: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Novi_sad_quarters.png ). The thing is, all these files were moved to Wikimedia Commons and are not used anywhere in English Wikipedia, so they all should be deleted from English Wikipedia since their duplicates are available on Wikimedia Commons. The second list of files presented on my discussion page is a list of files that are existing only in Wikimedia Commons, but their pages are created in English Wikipedia too - I think that these pages in English Wikipedia should be deleted, althought it was me who created them, but I understand now that it is against Wiki practice. However, since I am not an admin, I am not able to delete pages. Can you help with these problems or should I ask someone else? PANONIAN 11:58, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is the right place to ask. I'm working on these files now. Kimchi.sg (talk) 03:10, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
 Done for all images. Kimchi.sg (talk) 03:49, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You speedy-deleted this article on the grounds of CSD:A1 ("Not enough context to identify article's subject"). How is this so? If I recall (I can't see the deleted versions) it gave the title and author of the book (as well a a brief plot summary). How much more context do you need for a book? I didn't have any trouble finding info on the book.

I don't know if the book is notable per WP:NB or not, but I do know that it was reviewed by The Examiner (a pretty notable publication) in an article titled "The best books for 8- to 12-year-olds reviewed", and that the author, Mike Molloy, has a Wikipedia article where its pointed out that he's been shortlisted for the Stockton Children's Book of the Year and the Hampshire Book Award.

This does not sound to me like an article that should be deleted out of hand with no discussion. It should at least have the chance to go to WP:AFD. Whether it would be retained there I don't know, but you never know, and it seems worthy of discussion, seeing as an editor has seen fit to contribute the article.

Would you be kind enough to look into the deleted versions and tell me the handle of the original contributor, thanks. Herostratus (talk) 14:10, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to figure out what exactly isn't referenced correctly or indicates unimportance. I've seen hundreds of other bands that have far less references and have pages. Epicurean is a professional, signed, and touring band that has toured in large tour packages. ALL of the bands that Epicurean has toured with have Wiki pages. Even former members have individual Wiki pages. The band has also been on the top 40 CMJ charts; was reviewed and published in several large and significant magazines (Decibel, Billboard, Outburn, Metal Maniacs... all referenced.) that are found on the shelf of any magazine store. That alone should make the band worthy of "significance." I'm beginning to think that someone that moderates for Wiki has it out for Epicurean and deletes the page out of spite. Jerocker (talk) 17:29, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I'm guessing the obvious answer here is to say, please point me to where the band meets WP:BAND, the notability criteria for bands here on Wikipedia. Cheers. The Rambling Man (talk) 17:31, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I deleted Epicurean (Band) because your AFC submission had been moved to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Epicurean (band). This means the original title was no longer needed. Kimchi.sg (talk) 02:56, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I recreated this article using the article wizard and included an assertion of notability and a cite to substantial coverage in the New York Times. Can you explain why you speedy deleted it? It's a very well known travel company in the United States serving a specialized market (young adult touring) and is alomst 60 years old. There are plenty of sources on Google News and Google Books and the family that runs the business includes the Democratic nominee for governor of Vermont. Jeeper72 (talk) 17:41, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I have moved the page to User:Jeeper72/Putney Student Travel where you can work on it at your convenience. The NYT cite is a step in the right direction but according to our notability guidelines here, more like it is definitely better. As a rule of thumb any new info should be accompanied by at least one such citation. When you're done you can move the page back to the original title. Kimchi.sg (talk) 03:04, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Thank you. Jeeper72 (talk) 10:38, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Recent editing of Giorgi Latsabidze article draft

Thank you for the obvious work that you have put into your recent editing and reduction of this article. I agree that the contents of the previous "Early Childhood" section (originally added by another editor) while charming, are not referenced and probably couldn't be unless someone interviewed his parents or someone else that was there at the time. I have deleted the section. I see that you have also removed the short "Positions" and "Repertoire" sections that were added elsewhere and are not essential. I admit to being somewhat puzzled by your angry reference to "spam" in connection with the previous version and also your sweeping deletion of references to information cited on other web sites. Is this in some way guided by Wikipedia policies on referencing? The deleted references for the most part simply provided ancillary information on the immediate subjects of possible interest to the reader that is otherwise not available on Wikipedia. In some cases, the external web references are the only independent sources available to substantiate claims in the article. This specifically applies for example to the "Awards" section, where the external links led directly to PDF copies of the original award certificates. Is there now a danger that someone will complain that the award claims are now unreferenced? I know that it is not your job to educate me on Wikipedia editing, but some explanation would be much appreciated. Music43lover (talk) 18:41, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

While awaiting your response, I referred to a relevant section of Wikipedia's guidelines for referencing, found at Wikipedia:Verifiability section 3.4, "Self-published and questionable sources as sources on themselves". This guidance would seem to apply to the PDF copies of the award certificates that were previously cited as references. The images appear on the subject's own website, which simply enables them to be cited on-line. The guidelines may also be judged to apply to the material previously in the "Early Childhood" section, which was obviously based on material that also appears in the subject's web site, but otherwise seems to fit in with the guidance regarding such self-published material. Otherwise, I would have deleted it before, but kept it because it appeared harmless and added some interesting and relevant elements to the biography. Music43lover (talk) 21:46, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Information should be cited from sources that are independent of the subject of the article, either online or offline. Most of the links removed were either: straight pointers to Amazon - which is not-so-subtle promotion, or to the subject's website, or excessive trivia disguised as footnotes. Request for removing the deleting tag from Malak Koura

Dear Kimchi.sg's i have put some references like http://www.elcinema.com/person/pr1103772/ it is the official Egyptian IMDB , with contain the full biography of Malak Koura ,the only problem is that the site is in Arabic language but i think having an English translation is not a problem , and also the page article exist in Arabic language in Wikipedia Arabic , so i think this is enough as references but i am not sure about Wikipedia polices so i ask you if the page is now good enough to remove the deletion tag. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ahmed Fouad(the lord of programming) (talkcontribs) 21:15, 17 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Denis Plutalov Page Deletion.

Hello,sir,

what was the reason for deleting the pianist Denis Plutalov's page? There is no advertising in it whatsoever plus the persons is an internationally recognized musician, holds a doctoral degree and has his own website plus Youtube recordings? The article can certainly be corrected, but you had no right to mark it for deletion!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.85.172.17 (talk) 04:21, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Why did you suggested to delete the page of Russian pianist Denis Plutalov? The article has been on Wikipedia for five years, and now all of a sudden it is being removed upon your single suggestion!! There is no advertising in it whatsoever plus the pianist has an international reputation, holds a doctoral degree, has several compact disks released in Europe and holds his personal website? How should it be corrected to be restored?

Thanks —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.85.172.17 (talk) 04:27, 19 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  1. "Why did you suggested to delete the page" - it wasn't me who suggested, I just performed the deletion.
  2. "The article has been on Wikipedia for five years" - wrong, just three years.
  3. "and now all of a sudden it is being removed upon your single suggestion!!" - yes, do you have a problem with this? :-)
  4. "There is no advertising in it whatsoever" - the abundance of phrases like "Plutalov extensively concertizes in Russia", "he has been frequently heard for twelve years", "Plutalov is a noted champion of the works of", all of which are unsourced, beg to differ. The way it was written, it looks no different from a CV for the subject. In other words, the article was pure self-promotion.
  5. "pianist has an international reputation" - please provide proof from third-party, reliable sources.
  6. "How should it be corrected to be restored?" - by following the previous point #5.
Thank you for your co-operation. Kimchi.sg (talk) 04:18, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Soiled deleted

You deleted the page to Soiled the musician. Puzzling as the Artist has had reviews in Sonic Curiosity and other Wiki artists have quoted those reviews in the details.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/En_Route_(album)

The artist and this where I heard about him was played on BBC Radio 3 Mixing it 7 May 2004 BBC Radio 3 and also was a featured artist on Radio 1 unknown in 2006 Huw Stephens show. Reviews in Wire Magazine by David Stubbs (who has his own page on Wiki)

There are other bands/musicians who are on Wiki who have had limited success.WHo have pages??
