The CW officially renewed The Vampire Diaries for a full 22-episode second season on February 16, 2010. It premiered on September 9, 2010 and picks up immediately after the events of the season 1 finale.

Storylines

It has been announced that Jenna will stay in the dark about vampires for the time being and that she wasn't in the house at the time Katherine stabbed John because she had been lured out.[7] John Gilbert isn't dead and Katherine is back for Stefan.[8]

Background

The show was renewed for a full 22-episode season on February 16, 2010.[9] It premiered on September 9, 2010, at 8/7c.[10]

TV Guide reported that Ian Somerhalder is the highest-paid cast member, earning $40,000 per episode.[11]

Casting

Taylor Kinney joined the cast as Mason Lockwood, Tyler's uncle, in a recurring role.[12]
