It is a hit that didnot reach the expectations.:-(

Plot

Raju (Mahesh Babu) is a taxi driver. Whenever he meets Subhashini aka Subbu (Anushka Shetty), he suffers a huge loss. After one such encounter, Raju gets hospitalised. After his return from hospital, he takes two people in his taxi to some place and one of them is a geologist. The geologist forgets his wallet in the taxi and Raju goes to return it. To his shock, someone shoots and kills the geologist in that building. The geologist's assistant, in a bid to escape, jumps from the window and dies, destroying Raju's taxi in the process. Raju's manager suggests Raju to go to Rajasthan, give the geologist's assistant's life insurance money to his family, and ask them to reimburse the cost of taxi's repairs.

Meanwhile, Subbu’s father looks for an alliance and finalises the match with Amit, son of G.K. (Prakash Raj), as they both wanted to join hands in business. Amit takes Subbu to Rajasthan in a helicopter, presumably on a date. Finding some condoms with him, Subbu realizes his intentions and runs away from him. There again, Subbu meets Raju. While they try to return to Andhra Pradesh, G.K.’s men attack Raju and stab him. However, some villagers, who suffer numerous deaths from a mysterious disease take Raju as their savior, as he fits the description of the village oracle's prophecy of the arrival of a savior. Some coincidences prove that Raju has divine powers. How Raju cracks the mystery behind the disease, why G.K.'s men stabbed Raju, what G.K. has to do with the disease and the village, and how Raju taught a lesson to G.K. forms the crux of the story & climax.

Cast

Technical

Dialogues are effective and most of them are in colloquial decent crispy Telugu language. They appear as if someone is talking casually. Mahesh Babu’s character has got a comedy touch due to the different kind of dialogues. Definitely it would attract the mass audiences. Trivikram has experimented a different screenplay because the story is quite delicate. Music by Manisharma is good to listen. The music overshadowed the lyrics in some of the songs, while some are melodies which are good to listen. Choreography of songs are good in parts. The selection of costumes in soundtrack videos are of unusual for Telugu audience. However, the song "Om Namo Siva Rudraya" cinematography is critically acclaimed and Shafi should be commended for giving an excellent performance in that song.

Release and music

Originally Mahesh Babu planned to take a gap of 6 months before the release of his next film after Athidhi which was an average grosser at the box office. But, due to unexpected circumstances the film was postponed several times and the film took 2 years to get completed. The movie is slated for release on 7 October 2010. The Censor Board gave the film a U/A Certification and asked the producers to mute three words.[1] Music for the film has been scored by Mani Sharma. Sony Music purchased the audio rights for the film. The audio was released by Mahesh Babu on September 27 at the Radio Mirchi. Mahesh along with Trivikram and Mani Sharma released the audio at Radio Mirchi. It was well received by the audience and had a tremendous response from fans.[2]

Reception

Critical Reception

Khaleja got mixed reviews from the critics, film portal FilmiTadka gave it 2.5 out of 5 stars and stated "Mahesh Babu has delivered really well, however the film missed the magic of Trivikram big time" [3]. NDTV said "director lost his grip on the story and the staggered screenplay proved it. Despite some good action scenes and witty dialogues, the film is nothing much to offer." Superhit magazine said"Khaleja is an admixture of perfection, sincerity, capability of the entire team. Mahesh and Trivikram proved to be best blend in the business once again after Athadu." And the common response "Mahesh gives the whole entertainment that is needed."
