CookieCaper, it is a great thing to add images to the Wikipedia. It takes more than the momentary effort. I appreciate the effort involved. I hope to see more contributions from you. I have some concerns about your recent addition to the Joseph Smith, Jr. article. Please see the talk page for that article. Tom 05:32, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Joseph Smith quote
Good to hear from you. Yeah. I first heard it years (probably 20) ago, and only recently researched it and just this week found the fuller context. Here it is: "Our heavenly Father is more liberal in His views, and boundless in His mercies and blessings, than we are ready to believe or receive; and at the same time more terrible to the workers of iniquity, more awful in the executions of His punishments, and more ready to detect in every false way, than we are apt to suppose Him to be...." Great quote. Tom 15:29, 23 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Joseph Smith images
Please see the Talk:Joseph Smith, Jr. page - the copyright and fair use of some of the images you are using is contested. If you can provide source of permission or document the source as being in the Public domain or useable under Fair use, please include that information on the Talk:Joseph Smith, Jr. talk page. Thanks again for your work on many of these pages - much appreciated. Keep up the good work! -Visorstuff 16:42, 27 Aug 2004 (UTC)
Human
I have a short favor to ask of you. The Human discussion is getting strong, and I think it would help to lay our cards on the talbe so the "secularists" can see just how different is our point of view on just what is a human. But at the same time, I want to be able to get a "generic" (ha ha) religious view. In any case, would you take some time to drop by my user talk page and add your personally believed factual definition of what is a human. I appreciate it. Tom - Talk 14:56, 30 Sep 2004 (UTC)
LDS stub
Would it be okay to change the wording of the stub, to make it more general, to something like "the Latter Day Saint Movement" or "Mormonism" or "Joseph Smith Restorationism"? User:Visorstuff is the one who has worked hardest on getting a consistent nomenclature through all of this. You might get his input. I am going to edit the template, and you can change if you don't like it. Thanks. Tom - Talk 15:24, 4 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I agree with Tom about making the stub template apply across the Latter Day Saint movement, so I changed the template myself. The worst LDS Stub in my view is Emma Hale Smith, and assigning early history stubs (hers in particular) to the Utah church is wrong.
I also noticed you created an LDS apostles category. That's a good idea. However, the entries should be alphabetized by last name as is the convention across wikipedia. To do that, enter the category like "."
I often forget to do this myself, but none of the apostles seem to be sorted like this now. It's not a top priority to change them all though. Cool Hand Luke 02:56, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
LDS Apostles category problem
Actually, now that I look at it, the LDS Apostles category has bigger problems. The name is wrong. So far it's confined to "Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". Furthermore, it should be under Latter Day Saint leaders like Category:Presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is. I think all of these Apostles should be moved over to Category:Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with that name, and Category:LDS Apostles deleted. Cool Hand Luke 03:09, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- I didn't know about that website. That's indeed very useful. I was thinking a while ago about working on articles for Orson Pratt (I see you already made a stub), and I think it's good to have reasonably balanced linked reference. The Encyclopedia of Mormonism doesn't mention the personal disagreements between Brigham Young and Orson Pratt, for example.
- Whenever I see new LDS stubs, I'll be sure to label them so that the stub list isn't so biography-heavy. The category is incredibly useful. Overdue, actually. Cool Hand Luke 02:03, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Metroid Prime 2 box thing
Just wanted to give a thanks for added that to MP2. ^_^ Think you could do the same over at Metroid Prime's page sometime? It's already got a boxart picture. I'd do it, but those box things... ugh, I'm no good at things like that. I'd probably break it. ^^' Anyhow, thanks again — hope to see more of those in vidgame articles in general. Oh... and welcome to the Wikipedia — it looks like you're making yourself right at home. ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 01:29, Oct 11, 2004 (UTC)
- That was quick. Thanks again! ^_^ --Sparky the Seventh Chaos 01:51, Oct 11, 2004 (UTC)
WikiProject: Computer and Video Games
I've noticed your contributions to game-related articles. Maybe you'd be interested in this WikiProject? I don't see you on the list of participants. –Andre (talk) 22:44, Oct 12, 2004 (UTC)
Utah War
I see you recently contributed to Utah War. I have a question. In the "War" box, I once added the 140 [Mountain Meadows Massacre casualties as casualties of the Utah War. Another editor objected strongly, but I remain with the feeling it is disrespectful to those 140 dead to omit them as casualties. The other editor didn't think of MMM as a military action, but it was certainly carried out as one. Do you think it would be appropriate to add the 140 to the box? Tom - Talk 04:39, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Oops. Looks like you caught my comment before I deleted it. I read over the discussion on that topic and decided I'd better let sleeping dogs lie. MMM was terrible and was certainly seen by its participants in the context of the Utah War, but as I read the discussion from some months back, I could tell that just simply is not the mainstream view at this time. Perhaps there would be a fair way to add it to the Utah War article now that I understand NPOV policy better than I did back then. Thanks for your response anyway. I appreciate all the correcting and input I can get. Tom - Talk 04:50, 13 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Latter Day Saint WikiProject
I created the WikiProject under Wikipedia:WikiProject Latter Day Saint movement. The only experience I have in projects is the dead Chemistry ones. I don't want this project to die out, and I hope it will be useful to editors looking for work. To these ends I've compiled a list of red links and short Latter Day Saint articles not listed as LDS stubs. — Cool Hand Luke 19:19, 16 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Good work!
I like the stubs you're making (like Far West, Missouri and the Battle of Crooked River). I think they look like pretty good NPOV and are "perfect stubs". Keep up the good work! Cool Hand Luke (Communicate!) 21:40, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks man, I'm glad you appreciate them. :) Cookiecaper 22:06, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)
NPOV paradox
The funny thing about NPOV (re: Joseph Smith, Jr.) is that achieving it takes a combination of POV editors who insist that their POV must be represented fairly and NPOV specialists who insist that it must comply with policy. NPOV specialists can't do it alone, because their minds are warped so that they are a little out of touch with the POVs that need to be represented. So even if an editor sticks around for years without becoming really converted to, or reading and pondering fully, the NPOV policy, he still is an indispensable part of the community. What a paradox. Tom - Talk 20:35, 25 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Article Licensing
Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:
- Multi-Licensing FAQ - Lots of questions answered
- Multi-Licensing Guide
- Free the Rambot Articles Project
To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:
- Option 1
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
OR
- Option 2
- I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
- DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual
Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)
What's a stub?
Most people wouldn't consider Terry Bradshaw a stub at this point. What standard were you applying to give it that tag? Of course, there's always something more that could be said about practically any article subject, but the current article doesn't have any huge omissions, IMO. JamesMLane 09:52, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- The only reason I consider that article and other articles like that stubs is because the article isn't "Terry Bradshaw's professional football career", but "Terry Bradshaw", and there isn't much on him there except things about football. If you look at something like George W. Bush, that contains a lot of information about him and not related to his political positions. Biography articles should at least dip a little bit into things about the person and not just what they did. Do you disagree? Cookiecaper 18:17, 21 Dec 2004 (UTC)
- Sorry for the delay in responding; I forgot to watchlist your talk page. I see someone else has removed the "stub" notice. I think this article does dip into personal things. It has Bradshaw's birth data, where he went to college, quite a bit about his post-playing career, the fact of his three marriages and divorces, the names of his children, and a paragraph about the very personal matter of his struggle with depression. You're right that George W. Bush is more comprehensive, but most biography articles won't get into the detail accorded to major political figures. (In fact, some people editing the Bush article have said that it's too long and some of the details should be eliminated.) JamesMLane 19:42, 5 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Clitoris
Hello. I'm glad someone else from (presumably) similar background is speaking on this talk page. I'm not offended by the picture myself, but I know that my immediate family would not appreciate it, and I'm shocked by the amount of abuse toward "prudes" in the archive. Anyhow, the VfD will probably render a delete because page forks are bad, but I hope to move toward a transcluded solution like Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse, which is a template-driven solution I came up with. It has survived two VfDs. I actually prefer User:Violetriga's more intuitive method for this page. By using templates creatively, we can make a censored version without forking to a completly different article.
At any rate, thanks for your perspective. Cool Hand Luke 19:08, 6 Jan 2005 (UTC)
Renaming to The Church of Jesus Christ...
Thanks for posting this on the Wikipedia:Requested moves - I did not know you had to etc. I noticed the vote is very tight - I have tried to point some to vote - any thoughts on this - as I think it will come up again. Unfortunately - some poorly worded comments in support have created an oppose backlash, IMHO. As the presenter are you assumed to vote in support or do you need to vote support seperately (it is 10-10 now so every vote couts).
GCOTW
I'm giving you this message because you have been active on Gaming Collaboration of the week in the past. The collaboration had a bit of a hiatus, but it's now active again. A new article will be chosen this Sunday. It would be greatly appreciated if you visited the page to vote and/or make new nominations and worked on next week's GCOTW. Thanks. --Slowking Man 08:04, Feb 4, 2005 (UTC)
Black History
I asked Tom about this, and he pointed me to you. (But don't blame him ;^) I was surprised to find that Wikipedia didn't have a "Black History" category, and was wondering what the process would be to have one created (as well as the likelyhood). Tom thought you had created categories for the LDS pages, so you might know. I notice you are also into video games. I'm an Final Fantasy type RPG fan myself. Anyway, if you have time to give me some pointers on what I should do, I would appreciate it. There could be a few LDS related entries in Black History, so it isn't totally unrelated. ;^) wrp103 (Bill Pringle) - Talk 15:01, 4 Feb 2005 (UTC)
One of the few things I am unreservedly in favor of is beauty. I see that you are concerned about some ugliness at this article. Is there anything we can do to make this article more befitting the Featured Article status? Thanks for speaking up. Tom Haws 17:53, Apr 26, 2005 (UTC)

JS Poor Family and and Financial Setbacks
You deleted the comment on the Joseph Smith article stating that it was redundant. The intent, I believe, was to state that though Joseph Smith's family was poor they also continued to be hit with financial setbacks such as crop failures, inability to pay mortgage resulting in loss of home, etc. The objective is to demonstrate that though they were poor, they were hard working, but "unlucky". They were not a poor family because of laziness or lack of effort, but for reasons outside of their direct control. With COgden's insistence in including the Smith family being warned out of town without providing any context, I am particularly sensitive with showning the Smith family to be an honest, hard working family. Let me know what you think of this line of thinking and if agree, please change your revert. Thanks for your consideration. Storm Rider 19:45, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Sorry!
Sorry I mistakenly added a comment of mine on your user page, not the talk page. Like I've said before, I'm really green. My original commen is here:
Hey, I checked out that free agency page and I'm wondering if you know what church leaders have said they don't really like the term "free agency"? It makes no sense to have a claim without a warrent (oh, by the way, I'm like one week green). The Scurvy Eye 00:20, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Sorry, once more(you don't want know how long I spent playing in the sandboxes). The Scurvy Eye 20:47, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- Sorry to interject here - church leaders don't like the term Free agency because agency is not free - it always has consequences. Every decision we make affects another - from when we wake up in the morning, to the shampoo we use, to taking drugs, to speeding, to where we work, to who we marry. However, the term is a mormon cultural term and a cultural or folk doctrine (like outer darkness, etc.) and should be represented, albeit clarified doctrinally in the article. -Visorstuff 22:38, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
I understand what you're saying (and I do understand that point of doctrine), but the point I was trying to make(although I should have made it clearer) was that the article had no quotes from church leaders. The term should not be interperated to mean "free consequenses", but instead "free choices".The Scurvy Eye 04:15, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
Commenting on myself, but I found a quote by Bruce R. McConckie that I think may work. Tell me your thoughts on this. The Scurvy Eye 23:25, 13 November 2005 (UTC)
- "Agency, of course, is exercised in accordence with law. Once a final goal has been made, there is no turning back to seek the opposite goal."
Although my RfA is not over yet, I figured that since so many people voted before it had been posted, I may as well start thanking people before it wraps up. It'll take me that long to thank everyone who voted anyway! Thank you, Cookiecaper - really, I wasn't one already, but it looks like I will be soon - and I'll do my best as an admin to make the reality rise to the level of the dream. BDAbramson T 16:42, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Your RFA
I'm sorry to inform you that your RfA did not reach consensus. My best wishes for your future editing here (and editing articles is the most important thing to do here, in my personal opinion) -- Pakaran 02:59, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- I'm dissapointed in the outcome, but have some ideas the next time you feel you want to go up for vote. I'm dissapointed in some objecttions - particularly from User:Chairboy, who seemed to vote against solely on ideology. To me this is unacceptable. Some of the other "no" votes were done for quite lame reasons as well that can be easily overcome in my opinion, and some of the no votes are always no votes, so you need to mount your support better. Sounds lame, but this is why I rarely vote for or against admins, as it has become a clique of people not wanting others to have admin powers. Pretty lame, but I'd say some of your opposition was from such people. Its absurd. Also, self-nominations tend not to do well. I'd recommend asking someone else to nominate you in February or March - and in the mean time, work to get a featured article-worthy article highlighted, build consensus and revert vandals, fix templates, or some other Admin tasks to show indisputable proof you are admin worthy. Email me when you want to discuss in more detail. Perhaps the third time is the charm? -Visorstuff 15:32, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Help at Early life of Joseph Smith, Jr.

Welcome to Esperanza!
Welcome, Vanished user kjij32ro9j4tkse, to Esperanza, the Wikipedia member association! As you might know, all the Esperanzians share one important goal: the success of this encyclopedia. Within that, we then attempt to strengthen the community bonds, and be the "approachable" side of the project. All of our ideals are held in the Charter, the governing document of the association.
Now that you are a member you should read the guide to what to do now or you may be interested in some of our programs. A quite important program is the StressUnit, which seeks to support editors who have encountered any stress from their Wikipedia events, and are seeking to leave the project. So far, Esperanza can be credited with the support and retention of several users. Redwolf24 runs the spam to keep members up to date. Also, we have a calendar of special events, member birthdays, and other holidays that you can add to and follow.
In addition to these projects, several more missions of Esperanza are in development, and are currently being created at Esperanza/Possibles.
I encourage you to take an active voice in the running of Esperanza. We have a small government system, headed by our Administrator general, Celestianpower, and guided by the Advisory Committee comprised of FireFox, Flcelloguy, Titoxd, and Karmafist. The next set of elections will be in February, and I would be glad to see you vote, or even consider running for a position.
If you have any other questions, concerns, comments, or general ideas, Esperanzian or otherwise, know that you can always contact Celestianpower by email or talk page or the Esperanza talk page. Alternatively, you could communicate with fellow users via our IRC channel, #wikipedia-esperanza (which is also good for a fun chat or two :). I thank you for joining Esperanza, and look forward to working with you in making Wikipedia a better place to work!

Template deletion
Thanks for your question, Cookiecaper. It was actually a template I created myself, in a moment of lightheartedness. A few days later I regretted creating it, but by then a couple people had started to use it, so I hesitated to delete it; today I decided just to substitute it and delete it. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! — Knowledge Seeker দ 09:30, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
- Incidentally, you're welcome to recreate it if you like. The prohibition about not recreating deleted content would not apply. — Knowledge Seeker দ 04:07, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject LDS
Hello! I noticed you were on the list of members in the LDS WikiProject, and I was wondering if you were still interested in helping out there. You see, over the past few months, it appears that it has slowly drifted into inactivity. But you CAN help. Please consider doing both of the following:
- Take ONE thing form the To-Do list and do it. Once you're done with it, remove it from the list, and from the<><>, so we know its done. Keep the page on your watchlist. We have a backlog going for more than half a year. Please help to work on it, and remove it.
- Vote on the LDSCOTF, and work on it!
- Tell your friends (esp. LDS friends, & esp. Wikipedian friends) about this WikiProject, and enocourage them to join (and be active).
Remember: your involvement in this WikiProject is just that - involvement! Please help us out.
(Note: I'm sending this out to everyone who's name was on the membership list, so I will NOT be watching this page for a response. If you want to contact me, do it on MY talk page, please.)

An Esperanzial note
As I remember, the last spam that was handed out was on the 20th of December last year, so I think it's time for another update. First and foremost, the new Advisory Council and Administrator General have been elected. They consist of myself as Admin General and FireFox, Titoxd, Flcelloguy and Karmafist as the Advisory Council. We as a group met formally for the first time on the 31st of Decembe. The minutes of this meeting can be found at WP:ESP/ACM. The next one is planned for tonight (Sunday 29 January) at 20:30 UTC and the agenda can be found at WP:ESP/ACM2.
In other news, Karmafist has set up a discussion about a new personal attack policy, which it can be found here. Other new pages include an introductory page on what to do when you sign up, So you've joined Esperanza... and a welcome template: EA-welcome (courtesy of Bratsche). Some of our old hands may like to make sure they do everything on the list as well ;) Additionally, the userpage award program proposal has become official is operational: see Wikipedia:Esperanza/User Page Award to nominate a userpage or volunteer as a judge. Also see the proposed programs page for many new proposals and old ones that need more discussion ;)
Other than that, I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and wish you an Esperanzially good new WikiYear :D Thank you! --Celestianpower háblame 16:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Another Esperanzial note...
Hi again Esperanzians! Well, since our last frolic in the realms of news, the Advisory Council has met twice more (see WP:ESP/ACM2 and WP:ESP/ACM3). As a result, the charter has been ammended twice (see here for details) and all of the shortcuts have been standardised (see the summary for more details). Also of note is the Valentines ball that will take place in the Esperanza IRC channel on the 14th of February (tomorrow). It will start at 6pm UTC and go on until everyone's had enough! I hope to see you all there! Also, the spamlist has been dissolved - all Esperanzians will now recieve this update "newsletter".
The other major notice I need to tell you about is the upcoming Esperanza Advisory Council Elections. These will take place from 12:00 UTC on February 20th to 11:59 UTC on February 27th. The official handing-over will take place the following day. Candidates are able to volunteer any time before the 20th, so long as they are already listed on the members list. Anyone currently listed on the memberlist can vote. In a change since last time, if you have already been a member of the leadership, you may run again. Due to the neutrality precident, I will not vote for anyone.
Yours, as ever, Esperanzially,

See Wikipedia:Wikiquette Alerts, February 11, 2006. Bcatt may just be emotionally immature. I can't really get a handle on her. - Thanks for the tip-off man. Regarding your comment that bcatt may be emotionally immature: her user page links to Histrionic personality disorder with the hyperlink text reading "All About Me!". Some of the symptoms listed there are highly visible in her contributions. We should be patient and accomodating, and I agree that now that we've addressed her concerns we shouldn't feed her. Also, her user page includes userboxes expressing this detected frustration with religion, including userboxes that say essentially "[The world would be a better place without religion]" and that Flying Spaghetti Monsterism is more likely than creationism.
