In 2000 he was asked by a friend to record a song, which was meant for fun but was followed by a contract with EMI [3]. "La Chica Marita" was produced by Tony Catania [4] and was also released on the soundtrack of the movie Flawless with Robert de Niro. Schenkenberg described the works on the song and video as some good experience, but he had not the passion for this work like for being an actor.[5]

Marcus Schenkenberg lives in New York and Los Angeles and also has an apartment in Stockholm. Schenkenberg is fluent in five languages: Swedish, English, Dutch, French and Italian[6] and understands German.[7]

In the early nineties he had relationships with the models Maureen Gallegher, Catherine Hardenborg and Rosemarie Wetzel.[8] Schenkenberg dated different prominent women during the following years, like Mariah Carey, Nicky Hilton, Victoria Silvstedt and Jessica Simpson. But it was the relationship between him and Pamela Anderson in the years 2000 to 2001 that made him more well-known to the public besides modeling.[9] Being asked about his current state of relationship he states himself being single.

He has rumored to be gay and of having had an affair with Tom Cruise, which he denied.[10]
