International football competition
The CONCACAF Under-20 Championship will expand to 12 teams beginning in 2011 and will determine the 4 CONCACAF teams that will participate at the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup to be held in Colombia . Also, 3 CONCACAF teams will qualify to participate at the 2011 Pan American Games (except the already qualified hosts Mexico ) . The Executive Committee approved that for men's U-20 championships all three North American teams again will qualify automatically for the finals, while Central America will get four berths and the Caribbean five.
The new allocations give Central America one more berth than it had in 2009 and the Caribbean three more.[1] On 1 September 2010 CONCACAF announced Guatemala as host of the championship to be played from 3–17 April.[2]
The championship was scheduled to be held a week later, but was moved ahead one week due to a scheduling conflict.[3]
