Suite PreCure♪ (スイート プリキュア♪, Suīto PuriKyua♪), also called Suite Pretty Cure♪ is a Japanese anime series and the eighth series of the Pretty Cure anime franchise by Izumi Todo. Produced by Toei Animation, the series premiered on February 6, 2011, replacing HeartCatch PreCure! in its initial timeslot. The series theme will be related to music, which are prominent to the names of the Cures and the magical devices they use. Also, the series will have reference to famous classic musical scores.

Plot

Hibiki and Kanade are two friends who grew up together in Kanon Town. Very different in their personalities, they share one thing in common: A connection to music. No matter how different they are or how much their differences cause them to quarrel, they both continue to share loving hearts. One day they meet Hummy, who is sent to the Human World from Major Land to collect the scattered notes of the Melody of Happiness. They have to instantly transform into Pretty Cures to resist the threats and evil music from Mephisto. Can they stop the Melody of Sorrow from disrupting their peaceful town, and can their warped friendship measure up to the bonds of Pretty Cure?

Characters

Pretty Cures

Hibiki Hojo (北条 響, Hōjō Hibiki) / Cure Melody (キュアメロディ, Kyua Merodī)
Voiced by Ami Koshimizu

Hibiki is 14 years old and has a bright personality. She excels at sports, an expert on soccer, but is very bad at studying sometimes. Although her father is a genius music teacher and her mother is a famous violist, Hibiki thinks she has no musical talent but however she has Absolute pitch, and is able to identify music notes perfectly. She also loves to eat sweet things, in particular the cakes from Kanade's family's shop. As Cure Melody, her normally orange hair tints light pink and becomes tied in extra long twintails. Her theme colors are various shades of pink, and her Fairy Tone is Dory.

She introduces herself as "Playing the wild melody, Cure Melody!" (爪弾くは荒ぶる調! キュアメロディ!, Tsumabiku wa araburu shirabe, Kyua Merodī!)

Kanade Minamino (南野 奏, Minamino Kanade) / Cure Rhythm (キュアリズム, Kyua Rizumu)
Voiced by Fumiko Orikasa

Kanade is also 14 years old and she is Hibiki's childhood friend. Kanade is a excellent student, but she is not really good at sports like Hibiki. Her excellent grades and personality make her sort of a celebrity in her school. Kanade is very mature, but also quite stubborn sometimes. She dreams of being a pastry chef when she grows up, to take over her parents' pastry shop, the Lucky Spoon. She also has a strong love for cats, especially to Hummy. As Cure Rhythm, her normally-dirty blonde hair tints platinum blonde and becomes knee-length. Her theme color is white, with light pink as a sub color, and her Fairy Tone is Rery.

She introduces herself as "Playing the tranquil melody, Cure Rhythm!" (爪弾くはたおやかな調!キュアリズム!, Tsumabiku wa taoyaka na shirabe, Kyua Rizumu!)

Major Land

Hummy (ハミィ, Hamī)
Voiced by Kotono Mitsuishi

Hummy is a female Cat-like "Fairy of Songs" and the partner of both Kanade and Hibiki. She is the annual singer of the "Melody of Happiness", who tried to oppose Mephisto. She is sent into the human world to search and collect the scattered notes of the Melody of Happiness until she met both Kanade and Hibiki. Hummy also has the ability to summon Fairy Tones.

Aphrodite (アフロディテ, Afurodite)
Voiced by Noriko Hidaka

Aphrodite is the Empress of the nation "Major Land". She hosts the anniversary of the "Melody of Happiness" to pray for the peace of all worlds until the notes were scattered throughout the human world due to Mephisto. She asked Hummy to go to the human world in search of people who can become Pretty Cures to collect the scattered notes.

Minor Land

Mephisto (メフィスト, Mefisuto)
Voiced by Kenyu Horiuchi

The king of the nation "Minor Land" and the main antagonist of the series. He attempts to make the "Melody of Happiness" into a "Melody of Sorrow" to make all worlds tragic and fulfill his taste of music.

Siren (セイレーン, Seirēn)
Voiced by Megumi Toyoguchi

Siren is a female Cat-like "Fairy of Songs" and Mephisto's assistant. Although she was born in Major Land and is friends with Hummy, when her title of the annual singer of the "Melody of Happiness" was given to Hummy instead, she got jealous and asked to be Mephisto's right-hand. The "Trio of Minor" who were deprived of their seat of right-hand also hate her.

Bassdrum (バスドラ, Basudora) , Baritone (バリトン, Bariton) , Falsetto (ファルセット, Farusetto)
The ministers of Mephisto and the horrible chorus "Trio of Minor".
Negatones (ネガトン, Negaton)
The Negatones are the series' monsters of the week. These are created from a scattered note inside an item through Siren's powers.

Special Attacks

Cure Melody

  • Music Rondo (ミュージックロンド): Cure Melody's purification attack, which utilizes the Miracle Birtier. Cure Melody calls out for her secondary Fairy Tone Miri and lends her power to Melody. Melody snaps her fingers and summons two notes before she can combine together, materializing it into the Miracle Birtier. She calls out the item's name and summons Miri, going into the tip of the Miracle Birtier as its power source and with the wave of the baton, she forms an energy ring and spins it on her waist before declaring the attack name. Melody then gather the ring into the Miracle Birtier's tip and shoots it into the Negatone, hitting it directly. As the ring surrounds the Negatone with Purification Energy, Cure Melody waves the Miracle Birtier like a baton before she can jump and say finish. A purification explosion occurs, purifying the Negatone back into a scattered note.

Cure Rhythm

Group Attacks

  • Passionate Harmony (パッショナートハーモニー, Passhonāto Hāmonī): Cure Melody and Cure Rhythm's first group purification attack. Both cures clap their hands and then take two steps back and forth. Then they both join hands, spin together before declaring the attack name and raised their joined hands in the air, collecting purification energy. Then a golden G-Clef appears which spins and fires an energy blast into the Negatone, hitting it directly. A G-Clef mark appears on the back of the Negatone, and as the purification music calms it, the Negatone is purified back into a scattered note.

Magical Items

Cure Module

The Cure Module (キュアモジューレ, Kyua Mojūre) is a Brooch-like device that allows Kanade and Hibiki to transform into Pretty Cures. The brooch appeared when the emblems of both Hibiki and Kanade transformed and Hummy tells them to transform when a Negatone appeared. To transform, a Fairy Tone must be inserted in the top slot of the Cure Module before either Kanade and Hibiki says "Let's Play! Pretty Cure Modulation!!" (レッツプレイ!プリキュアモジュレーション!!, Rettsu Purei! Purikyua Mojurēshon!!) and then press the button on the bottom side of the brooch. Also, other Fairy Tones can be used by the Cure Module to increase a Cure's abilities.

In Episode 5 and the toy incarnations of the brooch, Hummy explains that the Cure Module also functions as an Ocarina, which is used to play music if a Fairy Tone is inserted.

Fairy Tone

The Fairy Tones (フェアリートーン, Fearī Tōn) are special jewel-like items that are used by the Pretty Cures. These fairy-like jewels give Hibiki and Kanade special abilities and powers when used by inserting them into their Brooches. They are also in charge of collecting the scattered notes of the Melody of Happiness. Currently, there are eight Fairy Tones available and each of the Fairy Tone's names are based on the Solfège scale. Hummy can only summon seven of them, the eighth Fairy Tone is held by a Masked Cure.

  • Dory (ドリ, Dori) - Cure Melody's Fairy Tone, Pink in color. This allows Hibiki to transform into Cure Melody.
  • Rery (レリ, Reri) - Cure Rhythm's Fairy Tone, White in color. This allows Kanade to transform into Cure Rhythm.
  • Miry (ミリ, Miri) - Cure Melody's Fairy Tone, Orange in color. Allows Cure Melody to summon her Miracle Birtier.
  • Fary (ファリ, Fari) - Cure Rhythm's Fairy Tone, Yellow in color. Allows Cure Rhythm to summon her Fantastic Birtier.
  • Dodory (ドドリ, Dodori) - The Masked Cure's Fairy Tone, Purple in color. It's abilities are unknown at this point.

Each of the Fairy Tones are voiced by Kudou Mayu, who also sings the show's opening theme.

Miracle Birtier

The Miracle Birtier (ミラクルベルティエ) is Cure Melody's Purification weapon. It's a pink baton like item that she summons using her secondary Fairy Tone, Miry. With it, Cure Melody can amplify her harmony energy and unleash a powerful purification attack to the Negatone.

In the Toy Merchendise of the Miracle Birtier, it's revealed that it can swap handles with the Fantastic Birtier.
