Sumerpur (सुमेरपुर) is a town in south part of Pali District of Rajasthan state in India.The town is headquarters of the Sumerpur tehsil. Sumerpur lies north of the Jawai River and is an important agriculture mandi of Pali, Sirohi and Jalore districts. Sumerpur is one of the oldest industrial hub of South Rajasthan and close to ancient village Bamnera which also fall under Sumerpur tehsil.

Sumerpur is located at 25°05′N 73°03′E / 25.09°N 73.05°E / 25.09; 73.05.

Demographics

As of 2011 India census[1], Sumerpur had a population of 36,991. Males constitute 52% (19,147) of the population and females 48% (17,838). Sumerpur has an average literacy rate of 69.43%, higher than the national average of 74.04%: male literacy is 78.79%, and female literacy is 60%. In Sumerpur, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.

World's First Tyre Care Institute of which founder are Sampat Raj Mehta and Kalpna Mehta, The said intitute is formed with aim to "Care the tyres of Vehicle Wheel". One of the important health centres in Sumerpur is a 150 bed, Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital, which caters to the needs of the people of surrounding areas. It is run by Rajasthan Medical Society. This hospital provides specialist care with fully-functional surgery, orthopaedics, gynaecology, paediatrics, internal medicine,radiology departments.

Industries

Sumerpur is one of the biggest markets for mustard seed. Ghee making is a cottage industry of the town. Other major industries of Sumerpur includes Iron and Wood works. Sumerpur is famous in nearby places and Rajasthan for its ornamental iron works which produces articles like iron furniture, gates and railings. Almost all the work is organised in the form of small scale industries.
