The 2011 Philadelphia Eagles season will be the 79th season for the team in the National Football League (NFL). The Eagles will play all of their home games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.


Offseason

Personnel changes

On January 15, defensive coordinator Sean McDermott was fired.[1] Defensive line coach Rory Segrest was fired on January 16.[2] Former Tennessee Titans' defensive line coach Jim Washburn was hired to the same position by the Eagles' on January 19.[3] Special teams quality control coach Jeff Nixon was hired by the Miami Dolphins as their running backs coach on January 20.[4] Defensive backs coach and senior assistant Dick Jauron was hired by the Cleveland Browns as their new defensive coordinator on January 21.[5] On January 25, linebackers coach Bill Shuey, who served on the Eagles' coaching staff for the past ten seasons, was let go after his contract was not renewed.[6] On February 2, Juan Castillo, who served as the team's offensive line coach since 1998, was named the new defensive coordinator. That same day, Howard Mudd was hired as the new offensive line coach.[7]

2011 draft

Consensus All American left tackle Gabe Carimi, winner of the 2010 Outland Trophy as the nation's top collegiate interior lineman, was predicted to be the Eagles' choice with its No. 23 pick in the first round of the April 2011 NFL Draft, by ESPN.com (Mel Kiper and Todd McShay), Rob Rang (CBS Sports), Jeff Howe (NESN), DraftTek.com, and WalterFootball.com.[13][14][15][16] Charles Davis (NFL.com) predicted that they would pick Texas cornerback Aaron Williams, and Pat Kirwan (NFL.com) predicted that they would pick Mississippi State offensive tackle Derek Sherrod.[17][18]

Despite a current work stoppage, a provision in the now expired CBA ensures that the 2011 NFL Draft will still take place. There are restrictions in place. Only traded picks for current players are those that were made before the work stoppage. Teams can trade draft picks not taken yet in this draft.

  1. ^ The team traded its third round pick (85th overall) to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for a third round selection (90th overall) and a sixth round selection (191st overall).
  2. ^ The team acquired a fourth-round selection (104th overall) as part of an April 2010 trade that sent QB Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins. It was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in exchange for this fourth round selection and a fourth round selection in 2012.
