Red Hot Chili Peppers concert chronology

The I'm With You Tour is an ongoing 2011-2013 concert tour by the Red Hot Chili Peppers in support of their album I'm with You. It is the group's first tour since the Stadium Arcadium tour in 2006-07 and is the first to feature guitarist Josh Klinghoffer following the departure of John Frusciante in 2009. The band returned to the stage for the first time since August 2007 with three secret invitation only shows in late July, 2011. Following these shows, the band played festivals in Asia as a warm-up to the official tour kick off in Colombia on September 11, 2011. Following the Latin American leg, the first European leg of the tour is expected to last until December 2011.[1]

Flea said that he expects the tour to last "forever" while Anthony stated when talking about the new album, "I can't wait to go out and play this."[2] According to sound engineer, Dave Rat, the tour will last into 2013 and the band's schedule will be spent 3 weeks on the road and 2 weeks off throughout the tour, a plan they have followed on previous tours.[3]

The band's official website held a special pre-sale promotion for tickets. If you pre-ordered the new album by a certain date through their website you would be sent a password which would give you the first chance to buy two tickets before they went onsale to the general public. This promotion is expected to continue as further dates are announced prior to the album's release. In the past the band's fanclub would send out special pre-sale info but currently the fanclub is inactive.[4]

Songs Performed

  • "I Like Dirt" and "Universally Speaking" returned to the setlist for the first time since 2004.
  • "Skinny Sweaty Man" returned to the setlist for the first time since 2003. [It was played in full at the video shoot on July 30, then partially in concert on September 2]
  • "Sikamikanico" was soundchecked at the September 2 show but not performed. The song has never been performed live.
  • Longtime friend and former backing musician, Keith "Tree" Barry, played saxophone on "Did I Let You Know" for the first live performance of the song on August 24.
  • "Castles Made of Sand" was teased at September 16 concert (Santiago, Chile).

Music video shoot

On July 30, 2011, the band took to a building rooftop along the boardwalk in Venice Beach, CA with director, Marc Klasfeld to film the music video for their single, The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie. A crowd of hundreds filled the boardwalk below to watch and in between filming the band teased the crowd with mostly snippets and instrumental versions of their own songs and a few cover songs. This was not a full show or stop on their tour. Below are the songs that were performed during breaks from filming the video.[5]

  • "Around The World" (tease)
  • "Backwoods" (tease)
  • "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" (instrumental)
  • "Give It Away" (full song)
  • "Road Trippin'" (tease)
  • "Skinny Sweaty Man" (full song)
  • "Strip My Mind" (tease)
  • "Custard Pie" (Led Zeppelin)
  • "D-7" (Wipers)
  • "The Star-Spangled Banner" (Francis Scott Key)

Red Hot Chili Peppers LIVE: I'm With You

On August 30, 2011 at 8 pm, select movie cinemas world-wide aired a performance recorded earlier that day from E-Werk in Cologne, Germany titled, Red Hot Chili Peppers LIVE: I'm With You. The performance, which was held before a crowd of around 1,000 people was shown in over 900 movie cinemas and in high definition. A special repeat showing will be screened in cinemas on September 1, 2011. Tickets went on sale August 5, 2011.[6]

Fans who attended the theatrical showing were treated to various interviews with the band prior to the performance. The 90 minute show featured the band performaning the new album in sequence minus the song, "Even You Brutus" which Anthony said in the pre-concert interview would be left out though there was no reason given for not performing the song. "Did I Let You Know" was performed twice due to technical problems. "Me and My Friends" and "Give it Away" were also performed and they performed a short cover of "Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter. The show also featured Flea playing piano live for the first time on the song "Happiness Loves Company". At one point half-way through the show, Flea complained about cramps in his hands and he asked the other three for a brief rest while they jammed. Anthony also had some trouble remembering lyrics to some of the new songs and recently told MTV in a interview that the band was nervous about playing them because they had so little time to practice before this show.[7]
