Musou Orochi 2 (無双OROCHI 2), is a 2012 hack and slash video game developed by Tecmo Koei and Omega Force for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This is the fourth installment of the crossover series Musou Orochi of the Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors series. This installment serves as a sequel to Warriors Orochi 2. This title has only been made for an official release in Japan on December 22, 2011. It has not been confirmed whether it will be released overseas, but it is very likely that it will, but at a later date in 2012.

Characters

Over 120 characters have been confirmed to be playable in this title. Character models will be taken from Dynasty Warriors 7: Xtreme Legends and Samurai Warriors 3: Z. This means that all characters up to these current titles will appear in the game. Cut characters such as Zuo Ci, Musashi Miyamoto, Kojiro Sasaki and Goemon Ishikawa will also be returning.

The majority of Musou Orochi exclusive characters will again, reappear in this title. This also includes Benkei and Sanzang Fashi from Musou Orochi Z. It is still unknown as to the involvement of Orochi and his two guardian creatures Dodomekki and Gyuki in this story.

Characters from other Tecmo Koei franchises featuring in this title include those from Ninja Gaiden, Bladestorm: The Hundred Years' War, Warriors: Legends of Troy and now Dead or Alive as well as Trinity: Souls of Zill O'll where they will appear and star in their own alternate version of stages within the game. Based on the current storyline, the only characters initially avaliable will be Ma Chao, Hanbei Takenaka and Sima Zhao.

The following are confirmed new characters:

  • Kaguya, The moon princess from Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. Holds the answer to defeating the Serpent Army with the power of time travel. Wields 'Sakaki and Mirrors',
  • Shuten Doji, Ruler of the Oni. Travels to the dimensional realm to learn more about himself. Wields 'Giant Gourd'.
  • Ne Zha, A heavenly general who fought the monkey king, Sun Wukong. Resurrected from beyond the grave to inhibit his current cyborg state. Wields 'Elephant Rings'.

Story/Plot

The story begins years after the events of Warriors Orochi 2, with a decisive battle against a multi-headed serpent known as Youja. This giant phantom serpent as well as the re-appearance of Kiyomori has once again, thrust their peaceful world back into chaos. Many warriors are killed, and the serpent appears to be unbeatable. However, the Moon Princess Kaguya appears and uses the power of time travel to send back the last remaining generals - Takenaka Hanbei, Sima Zhao and Ma Chao to the past to save their fallen comrades.

The themes of the story include friendship, romance, loyalty and betrayal.

Introduces the new 'Character Bond' system. Bonds can be increased by talking to other warriors, holding banquets using the new 'Restaurant' feature as well as using them in your team. Depending on the bonds between the characters, this will allow the story to change. It also enables the new action 'True Combination Attack' to be used with them as well as unlocking new stages and changing their quotes/attitude towards you.

Gameplay

The following is a list of old and new features included in this title:

  • Weapon Shop feature returns.
  • 3 character tag team from previous games returns.
  • 2 player split screen co op. (separate character palette unknown)
  • New co-operation attack 'True Combination Skill'.
  • New action 'Swtich Combo' involves timing attack with switching. (uses musou bar)
  • Attack categories 'Speed', 'Power' return.
  • New attack category 'Wonder' focusing on countering and critical attacks. (uses musou bar)
  • New action 'Dash Chain' allowing smooth transitions from dash to normal/charge attacks.
  • New action 'Break Guard' allowing countering enemy attacks and blowing them away. (press square before enemy attack hits)
  • Support Attack returns. Chance of happening increases as bond increases with character.
  • True Triple Attack involves all characters attacking together before finishing with an explosion. (requires full Combination gauge)
