Re:Talk page

It's standard Wikipedia guideline to inform the user and I didn't know if the notices sent the first time because I didn't check your talk page to make sure, so I posted them just in case. That's all. RickyBryant45324*talk 18:39, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, no harm done. Best regards and happy editing. --Muhandes (talk) 18:44, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mr Muhandes, This is not a copyright violation as wikipedia usually gives option in the beginning to choose whether you are uploading through internet or is it your own work. I have stated clearly before uploading. If this is copyright violation than prove to me. You can also verify my uploads. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Extractinternet (talkcontribs) 20:12, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Every photograph is protected by copyright. You cannot use images from the internet in Wikipedia without permission from the owner. Sorry about that, but that's how it works. --Muhandes (talk) 20:17, 26 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If you've come here to leave me a note about a revert I recently made with the edit summary WP:EL#ADV, here is the explanation. An editor has added several dozen external link sections, all with obituaries by the same writer. In many cases they even linked to a personal website and/or emphasized the name. This is obviously not coincidental, and in my opinion was all done in an effort to promote, against WP:EL#ADV. I have reverted most of those edits, though I admit some may be valuable, to be on the safe side. If you feel a specific link I removed is valuable, feel free to restore it, you don't need to notify me. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 19:43, 27 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Second opinion needed

Hi Muhandes, can you have a look at this, and tell me if the material was suitable for inclusion or not? The incident was definitely notable of course (as a Google search throws up many news results), but I'm unsure if it was suitable to include it in the college article, as it was not directly connected to the college. Would be glad if you could offer your opinion. Thanks, Lynch7 13:54, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If that's all there is to it, a single student committing suicide, I don't think it should be included. --Muhandes (talk) 14:04, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. Lynch7 14:27, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for correcting the grammar on the IIM Indore page. Just for curiosity , are you connected to IIM Indore in any way Gurpreetbhalla (talk) 18:25, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am not connected at all to IIM Indore, or any other Indian higher education institute. I just happen to write a lot about them. As a matter of fact, I live some 4000 km away, and have never been to India :) --Muhandes (talk) 21:00, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

College Rankings

I see, you have included colleges like Galgotias College of Engineering & Technology and Amity School of Engineering & Technology in the list which are ranked 68 and 72 respectively by the Outlook. Hence, I feel, Acharya Institute of Technology, which is ranked 60 by the Outlook must be included in the list. Sourav Mohanty (talk) 09:32, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please read the talk page. We include institutes if they have at least one ranking of 50 or below. The two institutes you mentioned do, Acharya does not. --Muhandes (talk) 09:33, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, okay :) ! No probs, but, I feel the list must be expanded to Top 100 rankings. If u find it tiring, I would do take up the task and do it :) ! And we should include rankings of EFY too. Sourav Mohanty (talk) 09:47, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of Indian University rankings

We can list the rankings of Indian Universities on the lines of List of Indian engineering college rankings. Very reliable sources for the rankings are 4icu.org rankings and Webometrics rankings, as these agencies have enlisted all the universities of India. What do you feel about it ? Sourav Mohanty (talk) 10:13, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't remember when, but I think there was consensus that 4icu and Webometrics should not be included anywhere in Wikipedia. I can try to dig these discussions out. --Muhandes (talk) 10:20, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
here is the one for 4icu. --Muhandes (talk) 10:22, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I could not easily fine the discussion about webomaterics. Anyway, how about something like Rankings of universities in South Africa? --Muhandes (talk) 11:36, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have serious doubts about the reliability of 4icu. Webometrics can be included, though I don't know how to do that, since the List is for college rankings; All colleges under state universities have been clubbed in Webometrics. Lynch7 11:48, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I think what Sourav Mohanty was proposing is to create List the rankings of Indian universities, based on Webometrics and 4icu. I may add that to do this one would first need to define "University", which is List of universities in India all over again (yes, I should find the time to split that one as discussed). --Muhandes (talk) 11:53, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, well, such a list wouldn't really be indicative of anything. These international ranking organizations don't really get the Indian state university system I guess; A "university" in India is very different from the ones in the US. We really should define it. Lynch7 11:58, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe the best is to create Rankings of universities and colleges in India, which rather than listing universities, discusses the different ranking systems and gives the top X for each, much like Rankings of universities in the United Kingdom. It can include an "International rankings" section which will list the top Y on the different international rankings, much like Rankings of universities in South Africa does. I really see a need for this as something to accompany the new template, but I don't have time for it right now (went back to work, yay). --Muhandes (talk) 12:07, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That would be acceptable I guess. In any case, I've started a section regarding this in WT:INEI. Probably naveenpf and the others can come up with a suitable solution. Lynch7 12:19, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That would probably have been the best place to start the discussion anyway. Feel free to copypaste my part above :) --Muhandes (talk) 12:20, 29 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Eddie Gala

in regards to Eddie Galan's page, I am his manager. It was already listed for years that he was a 4 time #1 songwriter/producer. 2 times on Hannah Montana and 2 times on High School Musical. Lil Eddie's album went #1 again this year in Japan on iTunes. These are true statements. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.9.137.37 (talk) 22:45, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Since you are his manage, you are in a very clear Conflict of Interest so you are kindly requested to stop editing his article. If you have suggestions on how to improve the page, please make them at the talk page, and another editor will review them. As for the matter itself, the sentence said "who has worked on albums that have accumulated over 18 million in sales worldwide, garnered him 5 #1 records as a writer/producer and 4 #1 records as a publisher." No source was brought for the sales figure. The term "#1 records" is meaningless without the chart in which they peaked, and lacks sources as well. Mind you, per WP:BADCHARTS, I doubt iTunes charts count. --Muhandes (talk) 11:56, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Placements at IIT kharagpur

how can the section Placements at IIT kharagpur be promotional.I don't understand this dual nature of wikipedia .wikipedia itself is reverting back from what it stated earlier. In February 2011, itself Wikipedia stated that placements in IIT Kharagpur is a detailed discussion ,and not promotional. It is supported by different reliable sources.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.82.23.247 (talkcontribs) 18:35, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure what you mean by "Wikipedia stated", who is this "Wikipedia" person you are talking about? I read the section, I think it is promotional. It discusses matters which are trivial and are of little importance to anyone except a prospect student, which is the exact sign of promotion, and sources don't matter in this regards. However, I am not going to argue this, because I simply don't care enough. Have your free brochure on me. --Muhandes (talk) 16:50, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Changes @ NIT Srinagar Article

Some of the facts as stated by anonymous user 117.211.89.212 were correct, notwithstanding lack of sources, but at the same time your reverting his/her changes has made the article very insufficient in details. As far as your mentioning the 8-Block Dal Boys Hostel as Staff quarters converted to hostels owing to lack of accommodation is derogatory, and also the fact that presently it is completely a boys-hostel now and lack of accommodation is no more. I can say this being a recent alumni of the college itself and therefore, you can take my word as a source, but of course as an unverifiable one. But still I request you to let my editings stand as I wish for nothing other than the exactness and truthfulness of Wikipedia articles, especially those which are connected to me in some or the other way. Rockin291 (talk) 05:12, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

And of course the fact of me being an alumni and all can be verified with some document scans which can be mailed to you if required, but I believe such measures are rendered unnecessary by mutual trust.

About your contributions in other areas of Wikipedia I am thoroughly impressed, I wish you keep contributing and help make Wikipedia more richer and informative. Rockin291 (talk) 05:20, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your kind words. The IP added a large amount of information without sources, so I reverted it all. Had he made only changes (with no additional data) I would not have done anything. If you think the information is incorrect, correct it. A source (even a primary one from the institute's website) would be nice, but for descriptive facts (this and that exists) a source is many times not requested. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 06:21, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well you got your points for sure, and you made quite a lot of edits recently in the article. But I would recommend you to take a look at how the the NIT articles like National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli are laid-out so that you can have ideas of how to organize this article properly. I would have done it myself but editing whole articles is a new thing for me and I think you would do it far better. And please take a look at the content in the mentioned article to find out what kind of information is relevant in an encyclopedia. Will be grateful if you take out time to do this, and I will try to add more information to it from sources. Rockin291 (talk) 04:00, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If I would have wanted to thoroughly edit the article I would have not used National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli as my guideline, since there is an official guideline WP:UNIGUIDE, which is what one should use for editing university articles (also consider WP:BOOSTER). As a matter of fact, a quick look at NITT's shows it needs some work to conform with the guidelines (not to speak of the fact that the rankings section is very clear WP:INDISCRIMINATE and the placements section is also quite clear WP:PROMOTE). But I'm afraid none of this matters as I have 13,500 other articles on my watch list, and at least three big projects in the pipeline, on top of working two jobs, so I don't have the time to thoroughly edit either article. If you have any questions I would gladly assist, but other than quick cosmetics and obvious vandalism, editing university articles just isn't my focus right now. --Muhandes (talk) 06:58, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you sir, for your valuable guides regarding how to organize university articles. I'm sure it will help me edit this article now. And I forgot that you are a busy man and obviously if among 13,500 articles and the projects you take out time even to take a look at an article like this it is incredible in itself. I'll try my best to organize it and will ask for any help that I might need in this endeavor, and your help will always be appreciated. And carry on the good work sir, it is so great to contribute and greater still to contribute selflessly. Rockin291 (talk) 23:29, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria

Could you please explain what part of Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria is being broken by the Deluxe Edition of the album as listed here in this edit? --Walter Görlitz (talk) 15:21, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Criteria #1. As the criteria says, one should ask themselves "Could the subject be adequately conveyed by properly sourced text without using the non-free content at all?" and the clear answer is yes "exactly like the standard cover with the words "Deluxe Edition" at the bottom" will do the job. --Muhandes (talk) 15:57, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Orphan criteria

Hiya, noticed you just tagged this Dance_History which has two incoming links already. Wikipedia:Orphan#Criteria now says only tag pages with zero links. I've got a feeling that may have changed as I suspect it used to be anything less than 3 links...? Quite a few of the articles in the Orphan category I've looked at recently also seem to have been tagged despite having links, so I'm wondering if the criteria is actually clear, or if some of the tools that pick out orphans are saying something different? (I'm asking because I'm personally getting confused about which articles the tag should be removed from, I'm not suggesting you've done anything wrong) - Hunting dog (talk) 16:27, 9 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, I actually knew the criteria, but my AWB was configured incorrectly. Anyway, I corrected it. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 15:39, 10 December 2011 (UTC)--Muhandes (talk) 15:39, 10 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Campus School CCS HAU, Hisar

Hi there. You have edited my article due to lack of citations. Since i am new to wikipedia, i didn't knew i cannot add citations from linkedin. sorry for the inconvenience. i just wanted to ask that what type of citations are allowed on wikipedia. also i want to add images to some articles. i have edited more than 10 articles. so how would i know that when i am allowed to add images? also is there any way to know whether you are an editor, administrator, etc? vishal14k Vishal Kaushik 16:28, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The problem was not citations (though you are right that linkedin is very rarely accepted as a source since it is self published). The problem was that per WP:NLIST every member in a list of people needs to be notable (and have a reliable source). That usually means we do not add people which do not have articles. I therefore removed all the alumni without articles. As for images, everyone is allowed to add images. I am not an administrator, most administrators will say so on their user page (and supply a link for verification). I hope this helps, and feel free to ask any other other questions you have. --Muhandes (talk) 22:13, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Categorisation of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University

User:Muhandes undid my categorisation of the University from a professional university to a general one, I am changing the reversing the same... because the University was formed under the Indraprastha Vishwavidyalaya Adhiniyam, 1998 (THE INDRAPRASTHA VISHWAVIDYALAYA ACT, 1998)

The relevant portion of the Act reads:
AN ACT to establish and incorporate an affiliating and teaching University at Delhi to facilitate and promote studies, research and extension work in emerging areas of higher education with focus on professional education, for example engineering, technology, management studies, medicine, pharmacy, nursing, education, law, etc., and also to achieve excellence in these and connected fields and other matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. BE it enacted by the Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi in the fortyninth year of the Republic of India as follows... [IPU Act]

Thus one can see that no General Course are taught in the University, if the term 'professional' as in wikipedia articles does not include the nature of IPU, then that article has to be changed giving an Indian reference... and not the Indian University being classified as a General one, especially when the government deems it otherwise. DebashisM (talk) 10:57, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

While I may agree, the page is a community effort, so please comment on the page's talk page, not on mine, so other editors can comment. --Muhandes (talk) 10:59, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see you went ahead and changed before discussion. I will move this discussion to the proper place and comment there, I ask that you do not edit until the discussion is completed and consensus is achieved. --Muhandes (talk) 11:48, 14 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WiKi page Jaypee Institute of Information Technology

Hi Muhandes,

I am alumni of Jaypee Institute of Information Technology and whatever text I have updated on wiki page of Jaypee Institute of Information Technology is genuine and you can the same on the institute webpage: www.jiit.ac.in. It better to provide up to date information about something than just publishing false information on wikipedia.

I did not revert any of your edits. An anonymous IP was restoring material I recently deleted and introducing a very large number of manual of style violations, without using an edit summary to explain why. Much of them was not reliably sourced, some of them were also against the guide to university articles and WP:BOOSTER. As the IP did not leave any reason, I was left with little choice but to revert it all. Again, your edits were not changed at all. --Muhandes (talk) 22:29, 15 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

My edit on the "Indian Institutes of Management" page

Hello - you reverted an edit I made to the page with the comment "Disagrees with the sourced text in the article itself. If you think it is incorrect, fix the text first." The edit I made does not conflict with the text in the article. The edit I made was to place IIM Rohtak above IIM Ranchi in the institutes table; you reverted that edit so now IIM Rohtak is placed below IIM Ranchi.

The text in the article says that IIM Rohtak was established on 30th June 2010; and IIM Ranchi a week later on 6th July 2010. The sources given for these points confirm these dates. So what is the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aurorion (talkcontribs) 15:34, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ref Pakistan Post page spelling

I have noticed that twice now you have changed the spelling of « licences » on the PakPost page to « licenses ». I have noted both times that Pakistan uses British English so the American spelling of « licenses » is incorrect as per Wikipedia policy. The policy is to respect national varieties of English on the respective pages. You must respect others if you yourself wish to be respected. Kslall8765 (talk) 15:54, 18 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please be more careful when throwing accusations. It is you who made that spelling error, not me. I was actually quite confused when you changed the spelling there times back and forth, but I thought you must know what you are doing. What you are proposing to do is called moving the page. Since this move is potentially controversial, as the original editors seem to think their name is the correct one, you will need to request a move. More specific instructions can be found in this section. I'll be happy to assist, but since I can't justify this move myself (as a matter of fact you did not give any justification) you will have to request the move yourself. Best regards. --Muhandes (talk) 11:33, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there

Like totally late; but here's the reply. Wifione Message 17:42, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, should you wish to apply for administration, it would be a pleasure for me to nominate you. Wifione Message 17:54, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the vote of confidence. I can't say the thought has not crossed my mind, but then again, I'm quite happy with the type of contributions I do these days, and I'm not sure how they will benefit from administrator status. This is probably because I know so little about what that status entails. I'd be happy to hear about that. --Muhandes (talk) 12:50, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Would you wish to read up Wikipedia:Administrators#Places where administrators in particular can assist? It'll give you a fair idea of the commonalities between some areas that you already are doing and how they can be helpful in the administration of the project. Please do not hesitate to write back to me for clarifications. Wifione Message 19:49, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, this is probably exactly what I needed. I'll give it a thorough read, and I'm sure I'll be back to you, one way or another. --Muhandes (talk) 16:12, 24 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Second, I am not an administrator on either this Wikipedia or on the commons so I cannot delete or undelete files. You can either approach the deleting admin, or try the undeletion process. Third, and probably most important, what you uploaded was a magazine cover. While I can take your word that you are the creator and owner of that image, I'm pretty sure that would not be enough and either an official release or non-free usage will be required. The former is a way in which the magazine administration releases the cover art to the public domain. This allows free use of the image everywhere. The second is a way in which the cover is used without permission, but with limited usage. If you wish, I can coach you through either process, just leave me a note. Best regards (and happy holidays) --Muhandes (talk) 08:19, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, for greeting me holidays, but i couldnt make any holidays this time. well that will be great if you guide me through these steps. i have claimed in the undeletion process, but yet with no responce. i keep watching this talk page section with you. regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Big101big (talkcontribs) 16:47, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As I expected, the image was not undeleted since permission is required. You did not say which of the two options I listed above you prefer. I presume you want to release the image as free for all Wikipedias. What you need to do is to follow the instructions as if the image was already published elsewhere. Namely, add the text {{OTRS pending|month=December|day=26|year=2011}} to the permission field of the image. Then send an email to the address on this page with with release license and details. You can find the exact text for the release form in the above page as well. Let me know if you need any help. --Muhandes (talk) 17:00, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

let me try this. Big101big (talk) 18:08, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, you did not upload the file. Upload the file, and in the permission field enter the OTRS part. --Muhandes (talk) 19:39, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Same to you. --Muhandes (talk) 07:26, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

Since you work with Australia lighthouses, you may be interested in a new article Albino Rock.  FYI, Unscintillating (talk) 03:12, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Interestingly, we already have an photo of the Fresnel lens display at Townsville Maritime Museum, here, though it does not mention the Albino Rock light. As the lenses each has a small plaque visible in the photo, their identity is pretty certain. Either Rowlett is incorrect or there is a second exhibit. Perhaps we can ask someone who visited there to clarify. --Muhandes (talk) 07:23, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Also, just noticed a totally unrelated White Rock Conservation Park. I'll dis-confuse them. --Muhandes (talk) 07:35, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

LadyShauncia

Hello Muhandes.

I do not understand why you would say that I am using multiple accounts. The ONLY account that I have is "LadyShauncia"....and the ONLY page that I have ever worked on in Wikipedia is "Pikahsso". I simply logged in yesterday to add an NBA.com reference to the Pikahsso page, which is a reliable reference. Could you please advise me on your problem, because my recent edit was a normal one. comment added by LadyShauncia (talkcontribs) 16:01, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You probably did this by mistake, but isn't you're regular account is Ladyshauncia (edits here), not LadyShauncia (edits here) ? I find it extremly hard to believe these are not two accounts operated by the same person. --Muhandes (talk) 22:07, 27 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
