Unreferenced BLPs

Hello One! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 714 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Tony Fisher (American football) - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Troy Hambrick - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  3. Kip Carpenter - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

I see you ended the AfD on Siegel Suites and removed the tag. Will you remove it on the other two articles that were proposed along with it, Gold Spike Hotel and Casino and The Artisan Hotel? Michaelcox (talk) 21:09, 21 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello One. Recently, the Amusement Parks WikiProject was reformatted and revived. As part of this process other related WikiProjects (such as Disneyland, Herschend Family Entertainment, Universal Parks & Resorts and Walt Disney World) were also revived and have now become part of the Amusement Park WikiProject as task forces. Can I ask how you reached the conclusions that this was no-consensus. While the votes were evenly split the delete side referenced policy and clearly demonstrated the lack of in depth secondary sourcing outside trivial mentions, primary sources and press releases. The keep side were uniformly arguments to avoid such as unsourced assertions, and even confirming that references were mentions. Please can you expand how you weighed the votes or revisit the close? My RfA

I (Guoguo12) have withdrawn my nomination and would like to thank you personally for your opinons. But why you, seeing as your !vote wasn't all that enlightening by the time you wrote it? Let me elucidate: I am curious as to how one (pun not intended) can !vote oppose because of "time-related concerns" in one hand and claim that RfA is dead in the other. Was it not you that described how you passed with only 1,400 edits five years ago? Was it not you that said the following?

"We, as a community, need to look inside ourselves and remember that adminship continues to be "no big deal"."

And was it not you who so accurately claimed that "we almost expect prospective admins to be machines nowadays"?

Do believe me when I say that I am in no way irritated because of your !vote; I was bound to fail, and for reasons that I had already predicted. I am merely confused. So, I would be happy if you could enlighten me as to your opinions on the RfA system. Is it broken? Dead? Or is it merely changed, like I said in my withdrawl statement? And if the latter, ought we to fix it or not? Guoguo12--Talk--  02:51, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Upon further examination of the support and oppose sections, I find that the !votes mostly divided on the issue of whether or not content contribution really matters. So, what are your opinions on this issue? Guoguo12--Talk--  02:55, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your question. While I do agree that people get caught up over ludicrous details, I consider the amount of time contributed to Wikipedia to actually be quite important. I hope that even if you disagree that you have contributed here for too little time, you agree that it's a fair reason to object someone's RFA candidacy. Not to mention that I probably passed RFA by sheer luck and not because my record was sterling, exactly. In any case, it's definitely possible for you to become an admin one of these days -- a lot of people fail on the first try. Just keep on doing good things and I might consider supporting you in the future. One two three... 03:49, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I see. I find your argument concerning experience acceptable, but only because it is the best we have. After all, neither time nor edit counts nor GA counts can truly quanticize how capable an editor is; but then again, what can? There is no perfect system, no system devoid of biases. Man is inherently biased. People cannot take things for granted because that is how science works: one must prove things, often through numbers. And while the number of GAs I have (zero) could in fact correlate to my content contribution abilities, it may not. But, hey, that's what people want to see, isn't it? Numbers. Oy, it's a cruel world! "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." Well, if people want to base their judgements on numbers, I guess I'll just have to go back in six months with ... numbers. Again, thanks for your input and speedy reply. Don't worry, I still enjoy editing ... they can't quanticize fun, can they? Guoguo12--Talk--  04:03, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I see that you deleted List of species of animals after closing the AFD for it. The article List of animal species and subspecies was also included in the same AFD, and I think it should also have been deleted as a result of that AFD. Calathan (talk) 21:08, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion review for Aubrey Wentworth

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Aubrey Wentworth. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. RaintheOne BAM 23:44, 16 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Per the request here by Flatscan (talk · contribs), please add a closing rationale to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Aubrey Wentworth. Please add a closing rationale even if the DRV is closed before you can do so, so that participants will understand your close. Also, please add it as a separate comment from the close, so participants know that it is a post-closure rationale. Thank you, Cunard (talk) 00:13, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The DRV has now been closed. The DRV closer wrote: "the closing administrator is advised to provide a closing statement explaining his rationale". Cunard (talk) 05:14, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I have mentioned your not providing a closing rationale here. Cunard (talk) 09:53, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

MSU Interview

Dear One,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk)
