BTOB (/[invalid input: 'icon']ˈbtwɒb/; Korean: 비투비; the acronym stands for Born TO Beat) is a seven-member male vocal group from South Korea. They were formed in 2012 by Cube DC, a sub-label of Cube Entertainment. Born TO Beat has the connotations of, "They were born for music" and "To win and prevail".[1] Their members are Seo Eunkwang (서은광), Lee Minhyuk (이민혁), Lee Chang Sub (이창섭), Lim Hyunsik (임현식), Peniel D. Shin (신동근), Jung Ilhoon (정일훈) and Yook Sungjae (육성재). The group debuted on March 22, 2012 on M! Countdown with two title tracks, "Imagine" (a ballad track) and "Insane" (a dance track).[2]

History

Pre-Debut

Prior to their debut, Cube Entertainment already announced that they'll be releasing a seven-member male idol group. Before their debut, 5 of BTOB members made a fictional performance on the sitcom, ‘I Live in Cheongdamdong’. And on March 13, 2012, Cube Entertainment finally notified that the name of the new male idol group is BTOB (“B-to-B”) meaning "Born to Beat". And on the same day, a new teaser site btobofficial.com was just opened up minutes revealing an ‘ID FILM’ to announce the name of the new group to the world and also to showcase the dance skills of the members. The members' profiles were revealed on March 18, 2012 on their official homepage. Also, before their debut, B.TOB’s Lee Minhyuk and Yook Sungjae have been named the new MCs for SBS MTV‘s ‘The Show 2‘! On March 20, the boys participated on their first recording as the new MCs for Season 2 of the popular music show.[3]

2012: Debut

On March 19 and 20 2012, the first and second music video teaser of their debut single were revealed. On March 21 B.TOB released their two debut tracks Imagine and Insane and shortly after that the group held its debut launch showcase live through the official you tube channel. And on March 22, 2012, the group revealed their "Insane" music video featuring A Pink's Park Chorong. On the same day, B.TOB had their on stage debut on M! Countdown, performing Imagine and Insane. They also performed on Music Bank on March 23, Show! Music Core on March 24 and on Inkigayo on March 25.[4]

On March 24 Cube Entertainment announced the release of B.TOB's debut album will be on April 3, 2012, titled "Born To Beat".[5]
