The Revolution is an American health and lifestyle talk show with some reality television components airing on ABC. J. D. Roth, co-creator of NBC's The Biggest Loser, is involved in the program.

The Revolution premiered on the ABC network on January 16, 2012, as the replacement show for the soap opera series One Life to Live. The series is hosted by Project Runway's Tim Gunn, who consults on style and fashion topics, fitness trainer Harley Pasternak, designer Ty Pennington, Dr. Jennifer Ashton, who consults on medical matters, and therapist/relationship expert Dr. Tiffanie Davis.

Premise

The Revolution concentrate on changing positively the lives of overweight women. The show not only consists of weight loss, but also of other aspects including mental, health, style and home environment. [1]

Through a casting call, women send to the show videos of themselves about what they would like to change. A customized plan is established offscreen to help each woman achieve its goals. The women later appear on the program to present their progress and accomplishments, which is usually featured in the form of a week-long chronological timeline of their progress, and later check-back segments.

The show features differents segments releated to exercise, nutrition, fashion, medicine or psychology.

Ratings

The show never gained a foothold in the ratings despite being sponsored by Macy's and having guest appearances from celebrities (such as Toni Braxton and Dolly Parton) as well as visits of hosts from more successful ABC shows (such as Good Morning America, The View and The Chew).

The Revolution is the lowest-rated show among all daytime programs on the three major networks. [2] Its first episode on January 16, 2012, received 1.9 million viewers and remains the show's highest-rated episode.[3] From January 2012 to early April 2012, The Revolution attracted on average an audience of 1.5 million viewers daily, of which 370.000 are in the women 18-49 targeted demographic.[4] In the month of March alone, The Revolution averaged 1.3 million daily viewers, roughly half the viewership of the program it replaced.[5] During two weeks in April that the show was airing reruns, ratings dropped below 1.2 million viewers.[6][7] The series experienced its lowest ratings to-date during the week of June 4, 2012, when the total audience averaged 1.07 million viewers, the first time the weekly ratings went below 1.1 million viewers.[8]

On April 11, 2012, ABC canceled the series due to low ratings. The show will air its final episode on July 6, 2012. After that date, its timeslot will be temporarily filled by a Good Morning America-branded summer edition afternoon program called Good Afternoon America until September 7, 2012. [29]

General Hospital will permanently replace The Revolution on September 10, 2012 by moving to the 2 p.m./1 p.m. (ET/PT) timeslot . [30]
